“DJ Scheme is a driving force behind Miami’s Members Only collective, and his menacing beats helped turn XXXTentacion and Juice WRLD into household names.” – Consequence of Sound
“The Palm Beach-raised music curator and general of vibes Gabe Guerra, better known as DJ Scheme, is among the biggest influencers in South Florida hip-hop…Think of him as DJ Clue to Miami’s up-and-coming Jay-Zs.” – Miami New Times
About
In the late spring of 2017, XXXTentacion and Ski Mask the Slump God embarked on the Revenge Tour, a now-legendary run of shows that cemented SoundCloud rap’s place at the heart of the zeitgeist. The high priest presiding over Revenge Tour mosh pits was a 20-year-old from Palm Beach named DJ Scheme, whom XXX and Ski each relied on as their DJ, hypeman, and close friend. Scheme’s integral role during the South Florida scene’s rise from tight-knit online counterculture to full-blown global phenomenon led Miami New Times to dub him the “DJ Clue to Miami’s up-and-coming Jay-Zs.”
Now, Scheme is just getting started. His debut album Family, which came out December 4th, 2020 via his new label Scheme Records, showcases his emergence as a producer and testifies to his core belief in the power of collaboration. With appearances from Ski Mask, Danny Towers, Juice WRLD, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Mosey, TheHxliday, iann dior, and many others of Scheme’s best friends, the album is a celebration of musical kinship. “It’s just the creative, collective thought of people who I love and care about,” he says.
Scheme began his music career as an MC, but soon found his path behind the turntables. After his initial stint with Wifisfuneral, he joined forces with both XXX and Ski in an official capacity. For the past five years, he’s maintained a heavy touring calendar and has DJed for artists like Juice WRLD, Robb Banks, Pouya, Fat Nick, and Keith Ape. He’s rocked the stage at every Rolling Loud festival around the globe and continues to engage crowds in ways that more traditional DJs simply cannot. In 2019, a banner year for Scheme, he DJed the XXL Freshman cyphers, performed dozens of sets as a solo act, and released his debut project Preseason EP. His song “How You Feel” (feat. Ski Mask, Danny Towers, and Lil Yachty) has since been certified gold and garnered ____ million streams across all platforms. Scheme has carried this momentum into 2020. In addition to his high-profile gig as Rolling Loud’s official Twitch DJ, he’s solidified his identity as a producer with collaborations with Lil Tecca, Skrillex, IDK, JID, and Juice WRLD.
Family, an album three years in the making, marks Scheme’s crowning achievement to date, the culmination of his journey as producer that goes back to his FL Studio sessions at his grandma’s house in eighth grade. With Family, Scheme has manifested his belief that the only thing more affirming than music itself is musical partnership. He credits his community of friends, which guided him as he honed his technical foundation in recent years and believed in him enough to rap on his beats, with helping him lay the groundwork for the album. “Collaboration is everything,” he says. “And that’s something that I stand by. That’s how you’re going to get the best out of me every time.”
Scheme is no stranger to grief, and the recent deaths of XXX and Juice only fueled his desire to use music as a way to connect with others. “I grew up with divorced parents” he says. “I’ve lost a lot of family growing up, and I’ve lost people my whole life. So that’s really why I really named my album Family, because family is everything to me. That’s the only thing I have.” Family suggests that, for all his talents, Scheme’s greatest gift might be his ability to bring people together. All for one, one for all.
