Digging ever deeper into his psyche, Havi announces Personal Problems 2The sequel to Havi’s early 2020 project Personal ProblemsPP2 finds Big Havi refining his approach, spinning fast-talking rhymes and candied melodies into indelible hooks. The project reveals a more confident and brash young artist, one who’s still haunted by his traumatic past but motivated by the drive to provide for his family. Produced by Saj and Jug, who adds insistent hi-hats, syncopated 808s, and ethereal vocal samples, “Vibez’N” finds Havi strutting his stuff with help from fellow ATL riser Lil Keed. Bursting onto the scene earlier this year, Havi is in the midst of a busy 2020. PP2 is Havi’s third body of work of the year. wifisfuneral shares ‘PAIN?’ Project, Completing His Artistic Transformation

    8.28.2020

    Album: wifisfuneral – PAIN?

The South Florida Rapper Embraces Melody On His Engaging New Project, with Appearances from Coi Leray and Smoove’L

    Critical Praise:

    XXL Freshman, Class of 2018

“[wifisfuneral] displays an impressive array of verbal acrobatics, showing off masterful breath control and a rapid fire flow.”  – Pitchfork

“He’s synthesized the regionless, borderless world of the internet age from which he takes his name, while lacing it with a narcotically addictive flow and a distinct ear for melody that’s allowed him to develop while others stagnate.” – NOISEY

“The young rapper has a wide range of skills, from agile raps and bass-heavy tracks to dark and moody slow-burners, and his unpredictability is part of his appeal” – Pigeons & Planes

    The Album:

Throwing himself into his new artistic direction, wifisfuneral is ready to turn heads with his emotional songwriting. Turning a new leaf in his career, wifisfuneral shares PAIN?, his engaging new album. Giving his tight flows a tuneful lift, PAIN? is a dramatic change in direction from wifi’s previous albums, fully-integrating auto-tune assisted melodies into his cerebral songs. The album veers from romantic devotionals, to X-rated sex jams, to expressions of loneliness, as wifi’s voice expresses the deeply-felt emotion reflected in his lyrics.

PAIN? is home to several well-received singles, most notably the expansive lo-fi pop gem Lost In Time ft. Coi Leray, as well as the recently-released explicit jam “Back Ache” and the Smoove’L-featuring Ocean.” The 23-year-old rapper showcased album highlights with performance videos, including clips for ride-or-die lead single End Of Story” and the chilled-out “All In.”

Along with the album, wifi shares the space-time warping video for Lost In Time.” A lo-fi pop banger driven by distorted low-end and wifi’s creative vocal performance, “Lost In Time” is a romantic duet with Coi Leray, as both vocalists attempt to escape a vicious cycle of breaking up and making up, determined not to waste their youth on a relationship that can’t be fixed. Directed by Silver Spoon, the video is an expansive head trip, focusing and wifi and Leray as they travel across exotic locations in search of one another. They exist in the same space, but they can’t seem to exist at the same time.

Praised by StereogumXXLHotNewHipHopLyrical Lemonade, and more, wifi’s new music shows another side of the 2018 XXL Freshman, and heralds even brighter things to come. Featuring an additional appearance from Mariah AngeliqPAIN? is available everywhere via Alamo Records.

    The Background:

22-year-old South Florida rapper wifisfuneral has taken his dark sonics, mature-beyond-his-years lyrics, and trunk rattling bass from the streets of Palm Beach to the world, amassing over 1.7 million monthly listeners on Spotify and over 700,000 followers on various social media platforms. wifisfuneral’s growth has been organic and cult-like, with his fans spreading his music like wildfire with each and every release. With virtually zero promotion other than his social media presence, wifisfuneral’s independent projects Black Heart Revenge (May 27th, 2016) and When Hell Falls (January 27, 2017) reached #69 and #17 on the iTunes hip-hop charts respectively, resulting in a label deal with Alamo and Interscope Records. His major label debut mixtape, Boy Who Cried Wolf, received critical acclaim, with two of the tracks earning placement in the Spotify’s coveted Most Necessary playlist. His latest mixtape, Ethernet, was released in June 2018 via Alamo Records. In 2018, wifisfuneral was officially named to the XXL Freshman List and reached #1 on YouTube’s trending chart. In 2019, wifi headlined two nationwide tours, released two follow-up EPs to Ethernet, and collaborated with Robb Bank$ on the Conn3ct3d project.

The group’s sounds have powered some of hip-hop’s biggest records in the past couple years, from Rich the Kid’s “Plug Walk” and Juice WRLD’s “Lucid Dreams” to Drake’s “Blue Tint.” The group is helmed by Taz Taylor, a Florida native who — true to his collective’s name — has accumulated a fortune primarily through the internet.” – The FADER

    The Background:

    Internet Money Background:

Internet Money was born out of necessity, a hybrid company that has filled in the gaps between the rap industry, the producer community, and the online marketplace. Disillusioned with the industry, and the way he saw rap producers being taken advantage of, Taz Taylor formed the collective in 2016 as a way to share the knowledge he’d gained from years spent selling his “type beats” online and navigating the internet’s ever-growing impact on the production landscape.

Four years in, Internet Money has expanded as a collective, including Grammy-nominated producers like Nick Mira and JR Hitmaker, and produced for DrakeTrippie ReddJuice WRLD, and many more. “When you’re in Internet Money, you get the same opportunities that I do, you’re gonna be working with the same artists that I’m working with, and getting credits with them,” Taylor says. “Instead of working with a bunch of people we don’t know, we just have our own network that’s one big family.” Following their success breaking major artists like Trevor Daniel, and co-producing his multi-platinum hit “Falling,” Taylor and Internet Money partnered with Elliot Grange’s 10K Projects in 2019 to launch their own label.

    Taz Taylor Background:

Taz Taylor has never cared about fame or clout. To hear the multi-platinum producer and Internet Money founder tell it, everything he’s done — from turning his online production hustle selling “type beats” into a $500,000 per year business to forming his own label — has been born out of necessity and guided by intuition. “I’ve been so tunnel vision during the last five years to make sure I got to this point,” he says. “It was just like, Let’s keep building.”

Though the 27-year-old has only been in the industry for a few years, his accomplishments in that time have come at a staggering pace, notching, by his estimation, over 500 placements and around 200 gold and platinum plaques between himself and the other producers on his Internet Money team. As their leader, Taylor has quickly become a new sort of rap mogul, one who’s built his steadily growing empire from a deep knowledge of the ways music moves online, and he’s done it all from the humblest of beginnings.

Dua Lipa’s New Challenge, 24kGoldn’s Effortless Virality, and More Interesting Music Stories From the World of TikTok

    The News:

TikTok is an essential tool for artists of all stages of their careers, from nascent talents just starting, to rising stars looking to find repeat success on the app, to established superstars looking to get an engagement boost. Music is TikTok’s universal language, each song representing a complicated web of emotions, in-jokes, and dances. Below are a few of the latest examples of how artists and the TikTok community bend music to fit their own inventive ends.

    • Dua Lipa’s dancefloor anthem “Don’t Start Now” and her stay-at-home instant classic “Break My Heart” caught fire on TikTok earlier this year, and now, for her latest Future Nostalgia single, Dua Lipa looks to give back to the community that helped propel her songs up the charts. Using the hashtag, #DuaVideo, the British singer is giving a lucky fan a chance to appear in the music video for “Levitating.” Eager fans have responded to the tune of over 8 million video views on the hashtag, and by showing off their best dance routines.
    • 19-year-old rapper 24kGoldn is no stranger to TikTok virality–his song “Valentino” was a massive hit in 2019 and propelled the rapper to heatseeker status. This month, the 2020 XXL Freshman struck gold again with Mood” ft. Iann Dior, a seductive single with bright punchy guitars that’s taken the platform by storm. Videos with “Mood” earned over 167 million video views in the past week, as users turned to the song to soundtrack flying golden retrieversambitious travelogues, and weird face tutorials (Goldn joined in on this one). Propelled by TIkTok, “Mood” rose to #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and launched Goldn to #1 on the Emerging Artists chart.
    • There’s nothing TikTok users love more than a good glow-up. Arriving in the form of a user-generated sound by @amandaabananaa, J. Cole’s 2014 single “No Role Modelz” has been recently used to soundtrack dramatic changes in appearance. Timed to Cole’s verse-ending “I’ma need my shirt back” lyric, the trend is an inspiration to anyone who struggled to emerge from an extended awkward phase (including Charli D’Amelio). A remix to Chicago singer Njomza’s 2016 single “Ridin Solo” has spurred a similar, more brooding and dramatic glow-up trend.
    • A Billboard number two hit in 2007, Ne-Yo’s sultry “Because of You” is the latest classic hit to get the TikTok treatment. The song is the soundtrack to a new dance craze, pantomiming a meet cute in which two people collide, play fight, and finally break into a coordinated routine inspired by the song’s original music video. Inspiring over 300k video creations, the trend has reached couplessiblings, and even Kevin Hart.
    • Tessa Violet is the latest emerging artist to make herself known on the platform. The singer-songwriter is a self-proclaimed TikTok addict, posting dozens of times per week to show off her sense of humor, tell engaging stories, and cover her favorite songs. Lately though, she’s been focusing on pushing her new song “Wishful Drinking,” demonstrating multiple versions of a new outfit transition trend that uses her song and even recording a tutorial for video-editing novices. Her hard work is paying off: “Wishful Drinking” generated over 113k video creations and is rapidly approaching 2 million streams on Spotify.
    • Though plenty of new trends popped up in the past weeks, the biggest song on TikTok remains “WAP,” the culture-conquering phenomenon by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. The song inspired millions of creations and generated over 1 billion views on videos of the song’s athletic dance challenge and other more absurd creations.

Though it’s enabled by innovative technology, the core appeal of TikTok speaks to our primal need to connect with one another. With its massive and engaged user-base and its emphasis on virality, TikTok eliminates traditional gatekeepers and builds a new kind of monoculture, one that reflects the consumption of the outside world, but operates with its own internal logic. The platform is bringing people together at a time when people can’t physically gather, with music as the driving force.

wifisfuneral Takes It To The Sheets With “Back Ache”

    8.25.2020

    Audio: wifisfuneral – “Back Ache”

The Florida Native Gets Explicit On The Latest Single from His Upcoming Album pain? & Teases New Single With a Live Performance of “All In”

    The Song:

Pivoting away from the cerebral rhymes on which he made his name, wifisfuneral has thrown himself into a new melodic artistic direction. Today, wifisfuneral shares “Back Ache,” a bite-sized tale of sexually explicit shenanigans. Crooning over a moody guitar line and bouncy syths, wifi tells his girl exactly how he likes it. Wifi shifts from brisk rhymes to melodic hooks and even nods to Future’s “Where Ya At?” flow, with a quick burst of rhymes in the DS2 hit’s fashion. “Backache” is the latest single to come from his upcoming album pain? – out Friday, August 28th via Alamo Records.

Teasing fans with an unreleased song from his upcoming project pain?, wifi shared a live performance of “All In” last Friday, August 21st. Tackling a chilled-out, piano-led beat, wifi broods over his rapid rise to success and navigating the doubt he’s faced along the way: “my city’s callin’, they ain’t love me when I was ballin’ / I had to treat this sh*t like it was all in / now I feel like this sh*t is fallin’.” Connecting his new melodic direction with the crisp flow he is best known for, wifi closes his eyes to deliver brisk bars and soulful belts in the secluded studio space.

Fully integrating melody into wifi’s cerebral songwriting, pain? finds the 23-year-old rapper crafting infectious hooks and expressing the deeply-felt emotion reflected in his lyrics. The project is home to well-received recent singles like the expansive lo-fi pop gem Lost In Time ft. Coi Leray and ride-or-die anthem  End Of Story.” PAIN? marks the start of a new chapter in wifi’s career.

Wifisfuneral has been consistently feeding his fans with new music over the past months, including the dark and metallic ColdAsIce, released in March (518k Spotify streams) and the Cris Dinero-produced idk. Earlier this year, he teamed up with veteran rock band Buckcherry to update their 2006 hit “Crazy B*tch,” and appeared on Beretta,” a hit single by wifi’s fellow Floridian $not (17 million Spotify streams). pain? is the follow-up to the Ethernet series, comprised of albums EthernetEthernet 2, and most recently EV3RYTHING SUCKS, wifi’s December 2019 EP, which featured appearances from YBN Nahmir and Ratchet Roach.

My Favorite Color Shares Velma, His Deeply Musical and Personal Debut Album

  • Press Release

My Favorite Color Shares Velma, His Deeply Musical and Personal Debut Album

    08.21.2020

Album: My Favorite Color – Velma

The L.A.-via-Pittsburgh Artist Paints a Vivid Picture of His Life as an Aspiring Rap Star and Shares the Racing-Inspired Video for Album Highlight “Dale”

    Critical Praise:

“His music is powerful. Each bar drips with the confusion and existential dread of a man who feels out of place in his world.” – Noisey

    The Album + Video:

A devoted student of hip-hop with an expressive pen, My Favorite Color toes the line between tradition and experimentation in his deeply personal rhymes. Opening up his soul with a unique artistic statement, My Favorite Color shares Velma, his debut album. A tour through the Rostrum Records signee’s inventive mind and finely-tuned aesthetic, Velma is a revealing and relatable album–listening feels like catching up with an old friend about his life. The project creates a collection of the richly-drawn characters that populate life of the rapper born Anthony Willis, and by the end of the album, the listener gets intimately familiar with not just Willis, but his girlfriend, his parents, and other friends and family. The instrumentals take inspiration from neo-soul, lo-fi hip-hop, and alternative rock, as My Favorite Color tells stories from his life as a rising artist and growing person. On songs like the recent single Funeral,” My Favorite Color contemplates complex questions about faith, mortality, music, and love. Following up his 2018 EP Go!, Velma is available everywhere via Rostrum Records.

Along with the album, My Favorite Color shares the video for “Dale,” an album highlight and his most recent single. A frenetic single that mixes fast-moving flexes with true-to-life details, “Dale” demonstrates My Favorite Color’s facility with narrative and knack for weaving in personal details about himself and his family. The new video mixes vintage footage of car racing with images of My Favorite Color rapping on top of a red whip and in front of a checkered flag. Showcasing My Favorite Color’s winsome charm and self-deprecating sense of humor (“What type of f*cking name is My Favorite Color??” says the rapper during a mid-video sketch), “Dale” is the 23-year-old artist’s second high-concept video of the year, following last month’s poignant video for Funeral.

Born in California, My Favorite Color spent much of his youth in Pittsburgh, starting his rap career in a diverse Pittsburgh rap scene. Living with a single mom who filled his house with the sounds of neosoul, R&B, and hip-hop, My Favorite Color started his deep dive into rap music in high school, starting with the classics, but eventually falling in love with the genre’s left field, particularly rappers like Earl Sweatshirt, MIKE, Isaiah Rashad, and MF DOOM. In 2018, the rhymer shared his debut EP Go!, with appearances from Pet Zebra and Benji., earning the respect of his artistic peers in the Pittsburgh scene, leading to a prominent feature in a Noisey-published overview of the city’s rap scene in 2019.

Now living in L.A. and signed to Rostrum Records, the label that broke Pittsburgh legends like Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa, My Favorite Color emerges as an artist to watch with Velma, a perfect record for the dog days of summer.

TikTok: The “WAP” Dance Challenge, Folklore, La Roux, and More Provide Joy and Catharsis

    8.20.2020

TikTok Treats, Week Of August 17th

A Weekly Roundup Of Interesting Music Stories From the World of TikTok

    The News:
With public safety and health at the forefront of the world’s concerns, TikTok provides a reprieve for its users to get away from the anxieties of the pandemic. For millions of creators, TikTok serves as both a salve and an outlet for catharsis. Whether users come to TikTok because they just need a good laugh, or they’re looking for a safe space to express unguarded feelings during a tough time, the TikTok community is there for them. Check out the following stories for a glimpse of ways in which both high profile artists and their fans use TikTok as a coping mechanism and morale booster.
    • Once again showcasing TikTok’s ability to drive hits, last week’s Cardi B & Megan Thee Stallion’s internet-breaking “WAP” video instantly resonated with the TikTok community. Dancer/choreographer Brian Eperson posted a breakdown of the video’s intense dance routine, which sparked users to create a multitude of #wap (864 million views) dance challenge videos. That in turn helped propel the song to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in record time. Highlights include a duo of pregnant women slaying the challenge, Charli D’Amelio’s mom-approved take, and even a giraffe furry getting in on the fun.

    • With 2 billion views, the cathartic #HurtMyFeelings trend is re-introducing La Roux’s 11 year-old hit, “Bulletproof” to a whole new generation. Creators are using the song as the sound bed to provide an assortment of triumphant, defiant, or humorous answers to the question, “You think you can hurt me?” The trend gained more steam this week with self-deprecating posts by Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo and Iggy Azalea. Bringing things full circle, last weekend La Roux joined TikTok and posted her own resilient take.

    • Speaking of catharsis, Taylor Swift’s placid break-up album Folklore has inspired everything from Jimmy Fallon picking up a ukelele for a comical cover of “the 1,” to people in otherwise healthy relationships feeling melancholy in the rain or curling into a fetal position while jogging after listening to “exile.”

    • A new and improved transformation challenge has emerged on TikTok as numerous creators have taken to DJ Jadaboo’s mix of rapper Baby Keem’s song “Orange Soda” to display their varying sense of fashion. The trend consists of TikTok creators tossing a shoe from their “before” outfit in the air right before “catching” the shoe of their “after” outfit on their foot as the beat of the song drops and the viewer sees the creator donned in new, stylish garb. From dapper suits to street style to sports uniforms, TikTok creators are literally sporting it all, showing that creativity and expression are at the heart of TikTok.

TikTok creators are all gas no breaks when it comes to putting a smile on the faces of millions of users. TikTok is more than just a casual app, as the platform’s trends and challenges serve to inspire joy and provide a haven for users, artists, and creators alike. The TikTok community allows high profile artists and up and coming creators to be themselves unapologetically while users look to TikTok to find their voice and seek happiness through the music.

Germ Raps about Horsepower Amongst Actual Horses in “7 Hunna Horses” Music Vid 🐎

    8.18.2020

Video: Germ – “7 Hunna Horses”

The G59 Artist Sends Warning Shots From the Helm of his “7 Hunna Horses” in Peak Horse Wrangler Fashion

    Critical Praise:

“For a time, Germ was your favorite SoundCloud rapper’s favorite SoundCloud rapper. Before established himself with solo releases, he was racking up hundreds of thousands of streams providing a jolt of off-the-wall energy on tracks by $UICIDEBOY$, Fat Nick, and Pouya. When he began to branch out on his own, with the mixtape Bad Shit (Bootleg) and the $UICIDEBOY$ collaboration DIRTYNASTY$UICIDE, he established himself as a raucous spark plug with a nasally flow and rhyme schemes that recalled a certain Academy Award-winning Memphis rap crew” – Complex

“The Haitian rapper is soaring to new heights with a debut album under his belt called Germ Has A Deathwish.” – Interview

“The latest signee to the $uicideboy$ label is an Atlanta skater-turned-rapper with a voice that’s as aggressive as it is gleeful. His new tape isn’t that serious, but his rapping is.” – Pitchfork

    The Video:

Taking a break from ATL city life to kick it cowboy style on a horse ranch comes Germ being extra meta by rapping about his horsepower (his beloved but wrecked Dodge Hellcat had 700 horsepower) to actual horses. Slicing through distorted trap tracks with his razor sharp voice, Germ is back with a roaring vengeance. Offering the official music video for “7 Hunna Horses,” Germ breathes life into the already explosive single from his recently released project The Hijinx Tape. Surrounded by horses, vintage Ferraris, and FTP drip, this isn’t just any ol’ Atlanta ranch. The G59 artist flips from turnt-up horse whisperer to padded cell inmate, as he spits vicious bars: “I’m a big tweaker, ride ’round with that heater, might delete ya / I’m that Grim Reaper, spook right here, tryna meet ya off that meter.” Produced by Kevin Rolly, “7 Hunna Horses” is a bass-heavy warning shot from Germ to the rest of the rap game–you can’t stop his shine, so get behind him or get out of the way.

The follow-up to last year’s debut Germ Has A Death WishThe Hijinx Tape is a 12-song set of rap mayhem, complete with the aggressive beats, machine gun flows, and boss life bars that Germ’s fans have come to expect. The album is an outrageously confident catalog of Germ’s favorite things, as he rhymes about his ounces of Cookies weed, his garage full of Dodge SRT Hellcats, and having more jewels than your local Zales. Featuring the recently released single Walked In” (115k streams on Spotify alone), The Hijinx Tape is the ideal soundtrack for crashing a whip just to have an excuse to buy another one – in fact, the album artwork is a photo of Germ’s actual car crash in 2019. Featuring an appearance from G59’s Shakewell and production from Budd Dwyer (aka Scrim from G59 head honchos $uicideboy$) and more, The Hijinx Tape is available now via G59 Records.

Germ recently supported $uicideboy$ on Grey Day Tour and proved he could infuse energy into crowds numbering into the thousands. Germ’s sophomore album The Hinjinx Tape is slated for a July 31st release date.

    Video: Big Havi – “Testimony”

The Atlanta Rapper Remembers His Elders in the Moving New Video from the No Pad No Pen Just Pain EP

    Critical Praise:

“In a very unforgiving and fast moving musical context, Havi proves he can go toe to toe with the best of his rap contemporaries and likely stick around too.” – EARMILK

“BIG HAVI IS UP NEXT OUT OF EAST ATLANTA” – FLAUNT

“Big Havi’s authenticity is helping him garner a reputation as one of Hip Hop’s most promising emerging voices” – REVOLT

“The ‘9 Times Out Of 10’ rapper is poised to be Atlanta’s next star.” – ELEVATOR

“Big Havi’s got a way of latching onto the beat and making any track an earworm” – HipHopSince1987

    The Video:

Big Havi processes his emotional trauma through cathartic and melodic rap music. Paying tribute to his grandparents, who fought for a better life for their family, Havi shares “Testimony,” his new video. Rhyming with a lightning-quick auto-tuned flow atop mournful guitars and thumping 808s, Havi reflects on his painful past, before defiantly pledging to make a better life for himself: “I remember them days I was down like a hill/I remember when momma couldn’t pay no bills.” Directed by BCPBrandon, the video switches between shots of Havi performing in his East Atlanta neighborhood with vintage photos of Havi’s late grandparents, providing a revealing glimpse at where Havi comes from and where he’s going. “Testimony” is the latest video from Havi’s No Pen No Pad Just Pain EP, following the Qasquiat-directed Blood N My Eyes,” which incorporated footage of Atlanta’s Black Lives Matter protests.

His second EP of 2020, No Pen No Pad Just Pain finds the 20-year-old rapper pouring his heart out. Over the EP’s 8 tracks, Havi works through his feelings about his rough upbringing, processing his PTSD and expressing his urgent desire to succeed. Haunted by memories of his traumatic past, Havi displays a wisdom well beyond his years, working through his issues with raw lyricism on highlights like “Scars N Scratches” and “Real Wit Y’all.”

In February, Havi shared Personal Problems, an expressive and infectious project boasting the urban radio hit 9 Times Out Of 10.” With over 27 million total streams, more than 8 million YouTube views, and a feature from Lil Baby, “9 Times Out Of 10” reached #34 on the nationwide urban radio airplay chart. Earlier this year, Big Havi turned heads as a supporting act on tour with Lil TJay, performing songs from his Personal Problems EP. Earlier this summer, Havi shared the video for Personal Problems,” a project highlight with an appearance from Havi’s Commission Records labelmate Derez De’Shon (552k views).

With No Pen No Pad Just Pain EP and beyond, Havi looks to continue his success, with an eye on becoming the next ATL rapper to hit it big. Stay tuned for more music from Big Havi in the coming weeks and months.

Young Dolph Reveals the Man Behind the Mogul on New Album ‘Rich Slave’

  • Press Release

Young Dolph Reveals the Man Behind the Mogul on New Album ‘Rich Slave’

    8.14.2020

Album: Young Dolph – Rich Slave

The Paper Route EMPIRE CEO Explores the Dualities of Being Wealthy and Black in America

    The Album:

Paper Route EMPIRE Founder and CEO Young Dolph shares Rich Slave, his most emotional, political album yet and his first solo album in two years. The album explores Dolph’s rags to riches story, emphasizing his Memphis roots with Dirty South instrumentals and recorded phone conversations with a family friend, as he mixes his trademark flex-heavy witticisms with his thoughts on the responsibility that comes with mogul status. As Dolph flexes bar after bar about his earned wealth, the album title Rich Slave emphasizes the glass ceiling on the upward mobility of Black people; no amount of money can buy true equality for Black people in this country: “They say this the land of the free/It seem like the land of bullsh*t to me,” rhymes Dolph on album highlight “The Land.”

Boasting production from Memphis natives Bandplay and Juicy J, as well as Sosa 808 and others, Rich Slave is home to recent singles like the West Coast tribute Death Row, the conversational Blue Diamonds,” and the Megan Thee Stallion-featuring riders’ anthem RNB.” With additional appearances from G Herbo and PRE signee Key Glock, who collabed with Dolph for last year’s Billboard Hot 100’s Top 10-charting Dum & DummerRich Slave is now available everywhere via Paper Route EMPIRE.

On explaining the title Rich Slave, Dolph says, “It’s the reality of being Black in this country. You can have money, and you can be a benefactor and a leader in your community, but all people see is Black skin. All the bullsh*t I heard about as a kid, we still face in today’s time. Over the years, they have given us a little bit of freedom but it’s only a temporary pacifier. Hopefully this album makes people understand that even though guys like me are doing well, we’re still affected by racism and inequality. It’s 2020, but the same stuff is still going on.” – Young Dolph

Along with the album, Young Dolph announced the Rich Slave Lamborghini Contest.” Launched earlier this month, Dolph will personally deliver a custom-wrapped, blue-and-orange-striped Lamborghini ($412k value + taxes) to one lucky fan. The Lamborghini is a 2018 Aventador S Roadster and is the same vehicle depicted on the cover of the Rich Slave album. The contest ends at 11:59pm ET on August 20th and Dolph will officially announce the randomly-selected winner on September 4th. Fans can enter the contest by buying Rich Slave or purchasing merch from Young Dolph’s online store.

Praised by GQ and others for his topical “Sunshine” single (“Young Dolph Is Leading Rap Through the Pandemic” – GQ), Young Dolph recently earned a spot on Billboard’s list of Indie Power Players for 2020.

Yella Beezy & Young Thug are Heavyweight Champs in “Headlocc” Video 🥊🥊

    8.13.2020

Video: Yella Beezy – “Headlocc” ft. Young Thug

The Two Trap Stars Train for a Championship Fight in the Video for the Blank Checc Single

    Critical Praise:

“How Yella Beezy Scored a Number One Hit During the Summer of Drake” – Rolling Stone

“Yella makes rap that falls into the ever so-popular “melodic” description, but his flows and downright ability to spit set him apart from everyone else” – XXL

“Beezy brings the heat…In an era when hip hop artists are releasing albums where every song sounds pretty much the same, Yella Beezy has delivered a record that goes against the grain on his latest project, Baccend Beezy. The Southern rapper sticks to his roots as listeners can pick up influences from the region, but Beezy has a little bit of something for everyone on his latest mixtape. ” – HotNewHipHop

“He uses simple lyrics intelligently, with an infectious flow that would sound equally appropriate in a noisy nightclub or coming from a cell phone outside West End Station during rush hour.” – Dallas Observer

    The Video:

Tearing up the airwaves with his crackling bars and bluesy melodies, Yella Beezy has the rap game in a head lock. Stepping out of the booth and into the boxing ring, Yella Beezy shares the video for Headlocc.” A bass-boosted, neck-snapping Texas trap jam produced by Monsta Beatz, “Headlocc” finds the Dallas rapper trading tough-talking verses with Young Thug, promising to bust the heads of anyone who’d dare stand in their way. In the video, directed with comic book flair by Reggie, Beezy and Thugger stop into a boxing gym on a mission to take down the local heavyweight champ. After watching the champ take down his first opponent, Beezy hits the gym with Coach Young Thug, who echoes Angelo Dundee (who coached Muhammad Ali) as he trains Yella for the big fight. When it’s time to fight, Beezy is ready, knocking the champion’s head clean off his body with one punch. With over 9 million streams on its audio, “Headlocc” will appear on Blank Checc, Beezy’s upcoming project.

“Headlocc” is the latest release in a busy year for the Oak Cliff native. In May, Beezy teamed up with fellow Texan Trapboy Freddy for I’m My Brother’s Keeper, a 12-track mixtape. full-length collaboration by the duo that previously connected for Yella Beezy’s “That’s On Me” (Remix)I’m My Brother’s Keeper hosts video singles like the heavily-armed “Ride” (1.8 million views) and the hometown salute Raccs.” Earlier this year, the rapper emphasized the importance of sticking to a code in “Keep It In The Streets,” a guitar-driven rap ballad (10+ million combined streams). The sequel to last year’s Billboard 200-charting Baccend BeezyBlank Checc arrives later this year via HITCO.

ATL and Chicago Connect: Memo600 Recruits Yung Mal for “Check The Score”

    8.10.2020

Video: Memo600 – “Check The Score” ft. Yung Mal

The Chicago South Sider and the Zone 6 Fast-Talker Unite for a Thumping New Street Anthem

    The Video:

A people’s champ in his native Chicago, Memo600 racks up views by the million with his neck-snapping drill bangers. Pulling up from half-court on his haters, the Only The Family-signed rapper shares Check The Score,” his latest anthem. The song has an appearance from Atlanta rapper Yung Mal, whose fast-talking, smooth-flowing delivery provides a thrilling contrast with Memo’s guttural, emphatic, and deliberate bark. Rhyming above a rapid high-note guitar arpeggio, Mal and Memo take a look around at their competition and finds it lacking–if rap is a game, they’re winning in a blowout: “Brought this glizzy betta check the score/That boy on the floor.” In the video, directed by Diesel Films, Memo600 and Yung Mal turn up in ATL backstreets with a crew of homies, including Mal’s frequent rhyme partner Lil Quill, flashing cash and posing by a red Lamborghini.

Signed to Lil Durk‘s OTF label, along with crewmates Booka600 and JusBlow600, Memo600 developed a loyal fanbase on YouTube with his unique style of drillin’. He earned his first exposure with the eerie local hit Exposing Me” (1.1 million views), which reverberated from cars in South Side streets all summer 2018. The “Exposing Me” (Remix), featuring fellow O-Block resident and OTF signee King Von, has over 15 million views on YouTube. Last year, Memo made noise with Steppers,” which racked up over 6.8 million YouTube views. Stay tuned for much more from Memo and the rest of OTF as the summer wears on.

Smokepurpp Learns to Live with Regret in “Said A Lotta Things”

    8.12.2020

Audio: Smokepurpp – “Said A Lotta Things”

The Usually-Brash Emcee Gets Into His Feelings For This Sweetly-Sung Auto-Tuned Trap Ballad

    Critical Praise:

    XXL Class of 2018 Freshman

“Purpp has caught the ears of everyone from The Weeknd and D.R.A.M. to Chief Keef and Travis Scott, and the 19-year-old rapper is in position for a rapid ascent” – Pigeons & Planes

“If you’ve not been following along, the rise of young Miami rapper SmokePurrp – alongside that of his longtime pal and collaborator Lil Pump – has been one of the more exciting rides in rap’s underground this year” – Noisey

“Out of all the SoundCloud and Florida rappers that have gained floods of attention and acclaim in recent years, Smokepurpp has stood as one of the movement’s strongest proponents and artists. – HYPEBEAST

    The Song:

He made his name with mosh pit-ready bangers, but Smokepurpp is just as effective when he simmers down. Today, Smokepurpp shares Said A Lotta Things,” a regret-filled, bite-sized trap ballad. Crooning atop a muted guitar melody from Thank You Fizzle (Gunna, Lil Pump), Purpp reflects on how his partying habits have serious effects on his emotional well-being: “I was on 10 xans when I told you you were my girlfriend/I was on 9 percocets when I told you that I love you/And when I told you I love you I was high on mushrooms.” The song gets a lift from Purpp’s burbling, high-pitched ad-libs, which provide a secondary hook. “Said A Lotta Things” is Purpp’s first new song since the release of Florida Jit, his recent project.

Populated with instrumentals from Ronny JEarl On The Beat (City Girls, Lil Yachty), CBMIX (Lil Pump, Juice WRLD, Kanye West), and Purpp himself, Florida Jit delivers 17 tracks of high-energy trap music. The project is home to successful singles like Off My Chest” ft. Lil Pump, which surpassed 4 million views on YouTube,  Pop Sh*t,” which inspired an outrageous music video, and Tide Pen,” a Jack Harlow-featuring single that has over 6 million combined streams on YouTube and Spotify. Most recently, Purpp connected with Young Nudy, sharing a horror movie-inspired visual for project highlight Ends.” Featuring additional appearances from Rick Ross and Denzel CurryFlorida Jit is available everywhere via Alamo Records.

In late July, Purpp and Apex Martin hosted a unique performance on Cadenza.tv, playing songs from Florida Jit for the first time and judging a March Madness-style beat competition. Smokepurpp earned his first Grammy nomination this year for his appearance on “Costa Rica,” the Gold-certified track from Revenge Of The Dreamers III. In February, Purpp’s breakout single “Audi” earned a Platinum certification from the RIAA, and his single “Do Not Disturb” went Gold. He’s currently turning heads with his guest spot on UK rapper KSI’s “Poppin’,” which has already generated 40 million streams across platforms.

    The Background:

The Chicago-born, Miami-raised rapper and producer Smokepurpp has been one of the cornerstones of Florida’s burgeoning rap scene since the release of his “Ski Mask” video in 2015. The buzz from the video and other singles with close friend Lil Pump culminated in a record deal with Alamo/Interscope Records and Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Records. The 21-year old Purpp quickly went to work, collaborating with Scott, Yo Gotti, Pump, and more. His debut release, Deadstar, spawned the gold-certified single “Audi” and generated features from The New York Times, Rolling Stone, Pigeons & Planes, XXL, Mass Appeal, and many more. The follow up release, Bless Yo Trap, was a collaboration with Grammy-nominated producer Murda Beatz, boasted the standout single “123” and collaborations with Lil YachtyOffset, and A$AP Ferg. 2018 has been a banner year for Purpp so far, thanks to his selection on the 2018 XXL Freshman list, the release of “Nephew,” his Gold-certified collaboration with Lil Pump, which has over 100M streams across all platforms, and “I Love It,” the Kanye West and Pump collaboration which Purpp co-wrote and debuted at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. After delighting his fans with the Lost Planet EP in April, Purpp closed 2020 out with the highly-anticipated Deadstar 2. Look for his next project, Florida Jit, to arrive in June.

🎥 Pluto x “Hood Baby”: Lil Gotit and Future Share “What It Was” Video

    8.10.2020

Video: Lil Gotit – “What It Was” ft. Future

Two ATL Titans Connect in a Flashy Video for a D. Hill-Produced Trap Banger

    Critical Praise:

“Lil Gotit is the heir to Atlanta’s rap throne” – The FADER

“Fresh off the release of his latest project, Crazy But It’s True, in March, ‘Lil Ralph’ is another step toward Lil Gotit having the sort of 2019 come-up that Lil Baby and Gunna had last year.” – Complex

“Like a fairy tale set in Atlanta’s Lenox Mall” – Pitchfork

    The Video:

Wielding an offbeat and infectious melodic style, Atlanta’s Lil Gotit is quickly earning the approval of his city’s trap elite. Joining up with Future, Gotit shares the video for What It Was.” With production from D. Hill, who produced Drake & Future’s #2 hit “Life Is Good,” “What It Was” is a dramatic and immense-sounding trap banger, as both rappers take turns describing their rises from the gutter to Gucci shoes. In the video, Gotit and Future show off their lime green ‘Rari in a remote garage, bathed in the flashing lights brought by fame and fortune. “What It Was” follows a series of successful videos from Gotit’s recent Hood Baby 2 mixtape, including the fiery  Bootron,” the country-fried No Kizzy,” the black-and-white Bricks In The Attic” (over 1 million views).

The sequel to Gotit’s 2018 debut mixtape, which announced the then-19-year-old rapper as a player to watch in his hometown scene, Hood Baby 2 demonstrates the rapper’s artistic evolution–his flows hit harder, his ad-libs are wilder, and his money is longer. The project is home to Drip Day N Night ft. Gunna and Gotit’s brother Lil Keed and “Yeah Yeah,” featuring Keed and Future. Featuring additional appearances from Lil YachtyGuap TarantinoRG JaydogSG KendallUno Freaky, and B SlimeHood Baby 2 is available everywhere via Alamo Records.

Young Dolph Shares New Video Single “Death Row” As Lambo Giveaway Continues

    8.7.2020

Song: Young Dolph – “Death Row” (Prod. by Bandplay)

The Paper Route EMPIRE CEO Pays Tribute to Dre, Pac, Snoop, and Suge in His New Song From Upcoming Album Rich Slave

    The Song:

The CEO of Paper Route EMPIRE, one of modern rap’s most vital independent labels, Young Dolph pays tribute to rap’s most notorious indie label on Death Row,” his new single. Riding a beat from PRE-signed producer Bandplay, Dolph talks about the spoils of his success, grateful that the risks he took to reach the top paid off, and eager to spread his wealth among his community: “My barber get a hunda every time I get a new fade.” “Death Row” is the latest single from Rich SlaveDolph’s next album, coming August 14th via Paper Route EMPIRE.

On explaining the title Rich Slave, Dolph explains, “It’s the reality of being Black in this country.

Along with the album, Young Dolph announces the Rich Slave Lamborghini Contest.” Launching today and lasting through the month of August, the “Rich Slave Lamborghini Contest” will reward one lucky fan with a custom-wrapped, blue-and-orange-striped Lamborghini ($412k value), personally delivered by Young Dolph himself. Shoreline Mafia Share Video For “Hoe Sh*t,” a Throwback Mafia Bidness Jam

    8.6.2020

Video: Shoreline Mafia – “Hoe Sh*t”

Shoreline’s Fenix Flexin Enjoys a Solo Showcase in the Latest Video from Mafia Bidness

    Critical Praise:

“After dropping a terrific debut album last November — a stylish bundle of songs that somehow felt nonchalant and meticulous at once — Shoreline Mafia has since become one of the most fascinating acts in a resurgent L.A. rap scene. And on Saturday night, the [collective’s] chemistry was something you could practically reach out and touch. These guys love rapping, and even more than that, they love rapping with each other.” – Washington Post

“Videos filmed in graffitied, just-made condos and fluorescent strip malls near East Hollywood helped make Shoreline Mafia the [collective] of choice for truant teenagers. “Musty”  and “Bottle Service” are definitive Shoreline: rollicking, slithering, and, in their creation, laughably janky and blatantly illegal.”  – Noisey

“Shoreline Mafia is leading L.A.’s unruly rap renaissance.” – The FADER

“The only prerequisites to enjoying their music are a functional set of ears” – Passion of the Weiss

    The Video:

Building a massive fanbase on the West Coast and beyond, Shoreline Mafia gets its power from the contrasting personalities of its members. Offering a new video that showcases the contributions of Fenix Flexin, Shoreline Mafia shares Hoe Sh*t.” A classic L.A. throwback with wobbling bass and woodblock percussion from producer Bruce24k, “Hoe Sh*t” finds Fenix Flexin living up to his name, as he brags about his jewels, his fame, and his lady-killing prowess: “Have your family Instagram with them RIP’s/Finna put this n**** face on a all-white tee/I can’t help it, dollar signs, boy, that’s all I see/They rather see me on my back but I’m on my feet.”

In the video, Fenix heads to the Hills, partying with his homies in a ornate multi-million dollar mansion. “Hoe Sh*t” is the latest quality visual from Mafia Bidnessthe collective’s debut album, following last week’s Wiz Khalifa-featuring clip for the Montell Jordan-sampling “How We Do It.”

Continuing a journey that started with 2018’s ShorelineDoThatSh*t, Shoreline Mafia releases, Mafia Bidnesstheir hard-hitting, highly-anticipated official debut album. The new album strikes a balance between styles, delivering the handclap-driven, Ron-Ron and AceTheFace-produced West Coast bangers for which they’re known, but also dipping into classic styles like G-Funk, New Jack Swing, and hyphy, and experimenting with regional sounds from Detroit, Memphis, and New Orleans. The album gets its spark from the chemistry and interplay between Fenix FlexinOhGeesyRob Vicious, and Master Kato The new album pays tribute to the memory of Mac P Dawg, a close friend of the collective’s who died earlier this year. Peaking at #NUMBER on Apple Music’s album charts over the weekend, and featuring appearances from FutureKodak BlackYGLil YachtyWiz Khalifa03 GreedoDrakeo The RulerDuke Deuce1TakeJayQ Da FoolMike ShermZ MoneyAFN PesoGT, and NfantMafia Bidness streams everywhere via Atlantic Records.

Shoreline Mafia spent spring and the early part of summer releasing banger after banger, starting with Gangstas & Sippas,” which eventually inspired a remix featuring YG. In recent months, the collective connected with Lil Yachty for the laid-back rider’s anthem Ride Out,” and with Wiz Khalifa for the Montell Jordan-sampling “How We Do It.” The album also boasts the hard-hitting recent singles Change Ya Life,” a bass-heavy West Coast rider’s anthem with over 3.6 million Spotify streams, and “Perc Popper,” a DJ Flipp-produced anthem with standout verses from Fenix Flexin and OhGeesy.

    The Background:

The pulse of Los Angeles loudly echoes through its rap crews.

In the late eighties, N.W.A. reflected the pre-riot tension of a city on the brink of total collapse. Cypress Hill finally gave the Latin community (and smokers everywhere) a seat at the pop culture table throughout the nineties. Odd Future magnified the skate mayhem of the Fairfax district in the aughts. That brings us to Shoreline Mafia. Since formally launching in 2016, the collective of four diverse, dynamic, and dangerous talents— OhGeesy [Alejandro Coranza], Rob Vicious [Robert Maggee], Fenix Flexin [Fenix Ryinski], and Master Kato [Malik Carson]—went from popular Soundcloud uploads to selling out arenas and picking up platinum plaques.

The group has garnered unanimous acclaim from Pitchfork, The FADER, Forbes, The Washington Post, Noisey, and more, and racked up more than 2 billion streams by 2020.

My Favorite Color Announces 8/21 Debut Album ‘Velma,’ Delivers “Dale” Single

    08.6.2020

My Favorite Color Announces Velma, His Stylistically Diverse and Deeply Musical Debut Album, Out August 21st via Rostrum Records

The L.A.-via-Pittsburgh Artist Zooms Over the Speed Limit in His New Single “Dale”

    Critical Praise:

“His music is powerful. Each bar drips with the confusion and existential dread of a man who feels out of place in his world.” – Noisey

    The Announcement:

My Favorite Color treats rap music as his personal playground, delivering relatable bars in a confident flow atop wide-ranging instrumentals. Finally ready to show the world the full breadth of his talents, My Favorite Color prepares Velma, his upcoming debut album. Spanning every corner of the Rostrum signee’s inventive mind, Velma is a revealing and relatable project–listening feels like catching up with an old friend. The project creates a collection of the richly-drawn characters that populate life of the rapper born Anthony Willis, and by the end of the album, the listener gets intimately familiar with not just the emcee, but his girlfriend, his parents, and other friends and family. Switching up his flows atop diverse instrumentals, taking inspiration from neo-soul, lo-fi hip-hop, and alternative rock, the emcee delivers a detailed account of his life as a rising artist and growing person, contemplating complex questions about faith, mortality, music, and love. The follow-up to his 2018 EP Go!, Velma arrives on August 21st via Rostrum Records.

“Velma is a huge metaphor for manifestation. It was me manifesting what life would be like if I ever did get a look from someone like Rostrum and getting an industry look in general,” My Favorite Color explains. “It’s a battle between me and the industry and seeing where that is going to take me. There’s a lot of depression, realization, and relatable situations going on throughout the album.”

Along with the announcement of the album, My Favorite Color shares Dale, a head-nodding new banger. With a hook that finds My Favorite Color experimenting with vocal effects and filters, “Dale” examines the rapper’s thoughts as he drives around the neighborhood, fantasizing about speeding into a fiery crash as he passes a park where he once got robbed. The new song demonstrates My Favorite Color’s facility with narrative and knack for weaving in personal details about himself and his family: “Just drove a Tesla to the trap/I don’t think it’s even on the map/Mom said I shoulda brought the strap/Dad said he shoulda loved me back.” “Dale” follows Funeral,” the first single and video from Velma, in which My Favorite Color imagines reactions of his loved ones to his death, each one grieving in their own way before eventually moving on.

Now living in L.A. and signed to Rostrum Records, the label that broke Pittsburgh legends like Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa, My Favorite Color is looking to turn heads with Velma, a perfect record for the dog days of summer.
