Fixtures in the new rap underground, Benji Blue Bills and BNYX® have never been afraid to experiment with their sound. Connecting for the first time on a collaborative tape, the rising ATL-via-DC rapper and the GRAMMY-nominated producer release Out The Blue. The new tape is home to the viral hit “Aye Rage!,” Benji and BNYX’s hit single (created with streamer YourRage), which started life as a spontaneous “Song Wars” collaboration on PlaqueBoyMax‘s stream, and grew into a sizable underground smash with over 10 million streams across platforms. Benji is an ideal guide through BNYX®’s azure-hued sonic world, grounding the producer’s flights of fancy with calm cadences and tight flows.

Out The Blue uses “Aye Rage!” as a launching pad for Benji and BNYX® to explore a variety of underground sounds. Songs like the floating, melodic “All The Way” and the chaotic “Taco Shells” stay in the Working On Dying sweet spot, with boosted 808s and dancing synth arpeggios. The ethereal “Feels CoreCore” and plugg-influenced “Right Key” demonstrates the pair’s facility with the underground’s softer sounds. Inspired by their connection in the studio, Benji and BNYX® venture even further afield into genres they have always admired, but have not yet had the occasion to try: “I Wonder” employs a lush soul sample, reminiscent of the beats favored by Benji’s 90s rap heroes, while recent single “Down Girl,” a collaboration with Argentine rap superstar Duki, draws from BNYX®’s Haitian heritage with a Kompa-inspired sound.

Along with the tape, Benji and BNYX® share the sci-fi video for tape highlight “Morgan.” Boosted by BNYX’s bouncy 808 bassline, “Morgan” is an instant-party starter, intended to soundtrack house parties and moshpits alike. Benji beckons baddies with reckless abandon, stacking blasé boasts and inciting pandemonium: “If I put that b*tch in Coco, turn her to a 5 star lady/Too much ice, it cause a meltdown, is you f*cking crazy?” he spits.

Directed by Jay Richardson, the video “Morgan” pays homage to the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, parodying the campy kids action show with loving attention to detail. Benji leads a crew of masked warriors (as the Blue Ranger, naturally), taking orders from a disembodied BNYX® (as the inter-dimensional Zordon figure) and teaming up to fight a team of baddies from outer space. At the video’s end, Benji and his crew form a giant blue Megazord-like robot to vanquish the threat once and for all.

The Background:

Benji Blue Bills’ matter-of-fact raps that act as a delightful contrast to the playful, electronic elements in the beats he selects make him one of the more interesting rappers of today. Learning from hip-hop legends like A$AP Mob in his early days, he widened his network and took that knowledge back to Atlanta. The back-and-forth nature of his upbringing – bouncing between DC and The A – makes him an intriguing hybrid of styles. Spending his formative years in The District before relocating further South in his teens, you can hear elements of both places in his accent and musical delivery. Lucky for him, the two cities he calls home have been fostering some of the most inventive street music in the nation over the past decade.

Since he started, Benji sporadically released music and kept his name hot with big name associates but in 2023 he hit a creative stride. In October he released Campaign Blue, a sixteen-track mixtape where his gravelly voice is supported by chaotic, often otherworldly beats that sound like they’re fresh from a fantasy video game soundtrack. A master of the art of lyrical Southern rap, Miami’s Billy Blue has impressed none other than Lupe Fiasco with his pen game. Processing his trauma through his words, the 1st & 15th-signed artist shares “Therapy,” his new music video. Produced by the legendary Soundtrakk, “Therapy” unrolls lush and soulful canvas for Billy Blue to paint on, with sumptuous bass, ethereal vocal samples, and jazzy horn charts, all adorned with a heartfelt hook sung by C.B. Rhyming in a sensitive drawl, Billy Blue opens his heart, offering a letter to his late mother, without whom he has felt lost. He desperately tries to find a way, finding solace in his children, including his daughter who he named after her, and hoping to stay out of trouble long enough to guide them through life. In the video, Billy takes time to grieve, visiting a therapist and paying tribute to his mom at her memorial site.

“Therapy” is the moving final track from The Life Of Pedro, Billy Blue’s new album. Over the album’s nine tracks, Billy Blue–born Pedritho Dorsonne, to Haitian parents–contrasts the glamorous perception of a rapper’s life with a harsh dose of reality, focusing on the pain as much as the pleasure. The Life Of Pedro is Billy Blue’s first project for 1st & 15th, following a long career as a respected rapper in his city and beyond. Born in New Rochelle, NY to Haitian immigrant parents, Billy moved to Miami when he was 10-years-old. Experiencing periods of homelessness and neglect as a youth, he took the name Billy Blue as a reference to his emotional state (“blue”) and his survival instincts (“Billy” comes from “Billy The Kid”), rapping as a way to exercise his demons and process his situation. He built a reputation for hard-nosed lyricism, crafting local hits like “Riders N Sliders” and earning the attention of hitmakers Timbaland and Akon, who signed him to a joint deal with Interscope Records in 2006. Years later, he has become an expert at navigating the changing tides of the music industry, and he still commands the respect of the game’s greats. Serving Chicago’s community since 2022, Sueños Music Festival is a celebratory outlet for the city’s sizable Latin American population, encouraging communal joy and radiating immaculate vibes. Spirits were as high as ever on Sunday, as fans flocked to Grant Park to experience another day of Sueños, featuring amazing music, food, and views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline.

Sunday’s lineup continued Sueños’s tradition of bringing Latin stars of multiple eras and styles to the Windy City, showcasing the breadth of Latin Music and Reggaeton through the years. The night’s festivities concluded with a performance from one of the Reggaeton legends, Don Omar, who captivated the crowd with “Bandoleros” and incited raveworthy dances with “Danza Kuduro.” Directly before Don Omar came another Reggaeton pioneer, Wisin, who performed hits from his decades-long career. As the sun set, fans experienced the dulcet tones of Texas troubadours Grupo Frontera, who brought gorgeous ballads and expert musicianship to the forefront.

The climactic three performances put a fitting button on an eventful day, filled with many other exciting stars. Tito Double P represented for the new generation of corridos tumbados stars, while JHAYCO proved why he is one of reggaeton’s most reliable hitmakers. Early in the afternoon, Sueños treated fans to sets by Omar Courtz and Mexico City rapper Bellakath, two of the most exciting rising stars in Latin music today. On the La Fuente Stage (Presented by Toyota), Deorro drew thousands to Sueños’ newest stage, treating revelers to a succession of surprise guests including Santa Fe Klan, Estevan Plazola and Mexican DJ group 3BallMTY, who returned after performing their own emphatic set on La Fuente just before Deorro shut it down.

Sueños Music Festival, founded in 2022, unites the city of Chicago under the banner of incredible Reggaeton and Latin Music. Bringing unprecedented star power to Grant Park and offering spectacular views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline, Sueños Festival (translation: dreams), was created to be an inclusive event with a mission to continue to celebrate and uplift Latin culture and the extraordinary music, people, food, and amazing energy that comes along with it.

Sueños takes pride in its meaningful contribution to Chicago’s Latin communities year-round, with a focus on supporting youth initiatives and Latin-owned businesses. This includes a partnership with Segundo Ruiz Belvis Cultural Center to develop youth art centers in Chicago’s predominantly Latin neighborhood, Hermosa, along with scholarships and immigration services for Latin communities through its collaboration with Pilsen Neighbors Community Council. Sueños’ ongoing partnership with the National Museum of Mexican Art includes a program to deliver art supplies to aspiring art students, a festival activation that allows young writers from the museum’s youth journalism program to conduct interviews at the festival, and a program that integrates art created by the museum’s youth mural program into the festival. In addition, Sueños has partnered with Puerto Rican Arts Alliance to provide music education programs and studio arts programs for children on the Southwest Side, including Chicago Public Schools’ vital after school and summer programs. Sueños supports Latin-owned businesses in the city through festival partnerships and its 20 Days of Sueños initiative, which shines a spotlight on 20 Latin-owned Chicago restaurants over a 20-day period, further amplifying the talent within Chicago’s Latin communities.

In 2024, Sueños Music Festival contributed $240 million to the Chicago economy and paid $1,992,952 in direct rent payments to the Chicago Park District. Additionally, the festival generated more than $2.01 million in amusement tax revenue for the City of Chicago and Cook County.

Now in its 4th year, Sueños is quickly becoming an institution in the Chicago community and a premier destination for Latin music fans from all around the world. In Fall 2024, Sueños producers C3 Presents and La Familia Presenta, secured a new 5-year deal with the City of Chicago and the Chicago Park District, which will allow the Sueños team to continue bringing music lovers together in one of the nation’s most vibrant cities.

Sueños Music Festival 2025: Saturday Recap

THE RECAP:

Each year, Sueños Music Festival brings the most vital Latin artists to the shores of Lake Michigan for a celebration of music, community, and culture. For the fourth edition of Sueños, El Festival Latino pulled out all the stops, expanding the event’s footprint in Chicago’s Grant Park and adding two additional stages for  festival-goers to dance the night away. Saturday brought one of the most exciting slates of performers in Sueños history, who warmed up the chilly spring night with their summer-ready vibes.

Saturday night finished with an incredible performance by Shakira, who performed a career-spanning set with amazing production from her current Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour. Touching the Sueños stage for the very first time, Shakira pulled songs from her deep bag of hits from the last three decades. The Colombian pop queen put her all into each song, from her 2002 English language breakout “Whenever, Wherever,” to more recent singles like 2024’s “Monotonía.” Playing into the hands of the mostly-Latin crowd, Shakira played multiple songs from her early career, including “Objection” and “Antología.”

Leading into Shakira was Mexican music superstar Peso Pluma, whose setlist switched between corridos tumbados like “Rompe La Dompe” and “Ella Baila Sola,” and reggaeton hits like “La Bebe” and “QLONA.” Peso welcomed special guests, including Oscar Maydon, El Alfa, Tito Double P, and Jasiel Nuñez, and serenaded the crowd in a classic black-and-white Sox cap to pay homage to Chicago’s South side.

Earlier in the day, Sueños presented an array of Latin music’s most exciting artists, who showed out for the Chicago crowd until dusk. Reggaeton legend Arcangel cut an imposing figure on stage, as he flawlessly performed hits from throughout his career. As always, Dominican dembow trail blazer El Alfa brought the energy, boosting the bass and testing the limits of the Sueños speakers. Rising corridor Oscar Maydon was a fan-favorite, as he demonstrated why he is one of Mexican music’s hottest acts. Earlier in the day, Sueños showcased some of the scene’s hottest risers, including rising urbano star El Malilla and genre-bending Monterrey native Nsqk. Meanwhile, La Fuente Stage (Presented by Toyota) provided an option for dance music fans, presenting a DJ set from superstar Nicaraguan-American DJ Gordo, Bad Bunny collaborator DJ Luian, and others.

Proudly produced by La Familia Presenta and C3 Presents, producers of Lollapalooza, Sueños Festival has become an institution in its home city and one of the premiere showcases for Latin Music and Reggaeton in the United States. In addition, Sueños has partnered with Puerto Rican Arts Alliance to provide music education programs and studio arts programs for children on the Southwest Side, including Chicago Public Schools’ vital after school and summer programs. Sueños supports Latin-owned businesses in the city through festival partnerships and its 20 Days of Sueños initiative, which shines a spotlight on 20 Latin-owned Chicago restaurants over a 20-day period, further amplifying the talent within Chicago’s Latin communities.

In 2024, Sueños Music Festival contributed $240 million to the Chicago economy and paid $1,992,952 in direct rent payments to the Chicago Park District. Additionally, the festival generated more than $2.01 million in amusement tax revenue for the City of Chicago and Cook County.

On May 21, multi platinum superstar Key Glock kicked off his 2025 “GLOCKAVELI Tour presented by SiriusXM’s Hip-Hop Nation” in Oklahoma City, OK at The Criterion. Jae Stephens, is an R&B futurist originally from Dallas and now based in Los Angeles. Since emerging as a talent to watch in her teens, Jae Stephens has been carving out her own lane in R&B. On his come-up, 1900Rugrat made noise by releasing a weekly freestyle, wilding out on beats of all eras and styles. 1900 keeps that spirit alive with “Lift Yourself Freestyle,” his fiery take on a famously incomplete Kanye West beat. The Limestone Creek, FL native toe-tags the beat, playing off the insistent percussion and slotting his rhymes between the soulful vocal samples, as he promises that he will never change up, despite his growing success: “They all say you crazy when you just a lil’ different/They all say I changed, I just got a lil’ bigger/Huh, still that same lil’ stupid-ass jitterbug,” says 19. Stacking punchlines and bankrolls in equal measure, Allstar JR is never satisfied with less. The Detroit rapper trades bars with fellow Eastsider Peezy on “I Ain’t Made It Yet,” his new single and music video. Produced by FlexOTB (Lil Baby, Moneybagg Yo, 42 Dugg), “I Ain’t Made It Yet” is a classic Detroit instrumental, riding a rising three-chord piano pattern and spritely steel drums, occasionally breaking down to just the bouncy 808s to give more space to each rapper’s outlandish flexes. Swapping punchlines like a trap Abbott and Costello, JR and Peezy dismiss haters with a sneer: “Jealous ass n****s cracking jokes on the hater side/Meanwhile, they working sh*tty jobs, barely gettin’ by,” says Peezy, and JR quickly responds, “Meanwhile, I’m countin’ 50 thou, I’m eatin’ chili fries/Heard a n**** tagged me on the ‘Gram, got hos-pit-a-lized.”

In the video, directed by Diego, the two rappers bring their Escalade and designer attire to a stylish Detroit warehouse, where they count cash and party with some of the city’s baddest. “I Ain’t Made It Yet” is the latest glimpse at Ball Up Top, JR’s upcoming album, which arrives on May 28th via Get A Bag Records / EMPIRE.

Allstar JR has been a fixture in the Detroit scene for more than a decade. The Eastside native has been rapping since his middle school years, when he and Tee Grizzley founded the rap group All Stars Ball Hard, building a cult following around the city for their hustle-hard anthems. In 2016, after run-ins with the law derailed his hoop dreams, JR released his first mixtape, Get A Bag Or Go Home, emphasizing his unparalleled work ethic and determination to achieve independent success. Get A Bag Or Go Home became JR’s signature mixtape series, inspiring the name of his record label, Get A Bag Records. The artist and CEO scored several street hits over the ensuing decade, notably the 2017 single “Cases Pending,” which has millions of streams across platforms. Benji Blue Bills’ matter-of-fact raps that act as a delightful contrast to the playful, electronic elements in the beats he selects make him one of the more interesting rappers of today. Learning from hip-hop legends like A$AP Mob in his early days, he widened his network and took that knowledge back to Atlanta. The back-and-forth nature of his upbringing – bouncing between DC and The A – makes him an intriguing hybrid of styles. Spending his formative years in The District before relocating further South in his teens, you can hear elements of both places in his accent and musical delivery. Lucky for him, the two cities he calls home have been fostering some of the most inventive street music in the nation over the past decade.

The Background:

Fusing expressive church vocals with themes of optimism and perseverance, Hurricane Wisdom makes songs for survivors — anthems that are as spiritual as they are heartfelt. A down-home storyteller, the Florida native serves up motivational soundtracks for everymen with dreams of sunnier days; his music gives them the resolve to get there. It’s an artistic approach as much as it is a mission, and it’s earned him a growing legion of fans, cosigns from Rod Wave and NLE Choppa, and status as one of the most potent young voices in the South East. It’s a position he reinforces with “Hard Knock Life,” an engrossing rumination on the struggle of the hopeful underdogs. His blurry melodies spill out like teardrops even as his lyrics spell out danger. MCA Chicago Announces the Second Year of Collaboration with Sueños Music Festival, Featuring Chicago’s Local Artist, Runsy

The Announcement:

(Chicago) The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago is happy to announce its upcoming MCA Store collaboration with Sueños Music Festival and Latina local artist Esperanza “Runsy” Rosas, taking place during the run of the festival from May 24-25, 2025. For the collaboration, Runsy created a custom t-shirt exclusively for the MCA Store, featuring a design encapsulating the spirit of the Latin Music festival, which is taking place in Grant Park. This is the second collaboration between the festival and the MCA, with the first taking place at MCA’s Family Day in 2024.

“As a Chicagoan and a Latina woman, I think it’s important to be a part of this festival. That it’s called Sueños Fest is really a reflection of my own career: it’s about following my dreams and showing others who look like me that with hard work, a good heart, perseverance and the love of my community, anything is possible,” Runsy said. “Additionally, developing this collaboration with the MCA Chicago and being part of the long list of artists who have collaborated with this iconic Chicago cultural institution is both a personal and professional accomplishment and a true source of pride. The museum’s commitment to elevating diverse artists and voices in the community not only aligns with a professional practice but also makes this collaboration even more meaningful.”

The t-shirt design features Runsy’s titular character on a Ferris wheel, similar to the one on the Sueños festival grounds, dressed in festival wear and with a clown-like expression, which ties into the Chicano culture concept of “Smile Now, Cry Later.” According to Runsy, the design reflects the character Sueños Music Festival, which is a bright and joyful celebration of the beauty of Latin culture and music.

“Sueños is very excited to continue our partnership with The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and share this new collaboration with festival-goers and art lovers across the city,” says Aaron Ampudia, Co-Founder of Sueños Music Festival. “Runsy is an incredible artist and we’re grateful to her for putting together a piece that speaks to our mission of uplifting Latin voices and putting on for the Latino community.”

To celebrate the collaboration, there will be an official product launch event at the MCA Store on May 20 from 6–8 pm. Additionally, Runsy will be participating in the MCA’s May Family Day, titled “Playoffs,” which will focus on the work of artist Paul Pfeiffer in commemoration of his then-open exhibition Prologue to the Story of the Birth of Freedom

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Esperanza Rosas also known by her creative moniker of Runsy, is a Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist specializing in drawing and design. Her work encompasses the layered intersectionality of her identity as a Mexican-American woman from the Southside of Chicago.

Through the artistic realms of graphite illustration and clean, minimalistic design, Runsy’s art reimagines the intricate nuances of Mexican iconography and Chicago culture. The Background:

A native of South Memphis, Kenny Muney grew up idolizing rappers like Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, and Boosie. He started rapping at age 15, developing his aggressive aesthetic and honing his deeply rhythmic flow. Kenny got his first brush with fame when he released “YTN Freestyle,” which racked up over 2.5 million YouTube views, made him a neighborhood hero, and earned airplay on local radio. He made noise in 2019 with Muney Talk, his first mixtape for PRE. (MIAMI – May 13, 2025) – Today, Amazon Music announced it will exclusively livestream Sueños Festival 2025, one of the country’s premier Latin Music festivals, to a global audience. For the first time ever, fans across the globe will be able to watch the two-day event live on the Amazon Music channels on Twitch and Prime Video. Streaming from Grant Park in Chicago on May 24–25, the livestream will feature daily coverage of the festival, including a selection of artist performances and behind-the-scenes moments. The bilingual broadcast, hosted by Grecia López  and Maria Chacón, will be available with English and Spanish subtitles on both Twitch and Prime Video.

In addition to the livestream, Amazon Music is curating a 360-degree Sueños experience through the World of Sueños–a dedicated festival hub within the Latin music section of the Amazon Music app, designed to deepen fan connection before, during, and after the show. At the heart of the festival’s digital home is the official Amazon Music Sueños Festival Playlist, created exclusively for the festival. About Boldy James
Operating at an extremely high level as his rap career progresses into its third decade, Boldy James is a national treasure. After making his name in the Detroit street scene, the rapper earned a new audience in 2020 when he tapped in with Griselda, and recorded For The Price Of Tea In China with his longtime collaborator The Alchemist. SUEÑOS MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES SET TIMES FOR FOURTH ANNUAL EDITION THIS MAY

WITH HEADLINERS SHAKIRA, PESO PLUMA, DON OMAR, AND GRUPO FRONTERA, SUEÑOS RETURNS TO GRANT PARK IN CHICAGO ON MAY 24-25, 2025

(Chicago, IL – May 9, 2025) –  For the fourth straight year, Sueños Music Festival brings the best and brightest in Latin Music to Chicago’s lake shore. Today, El Festival Latino announces the set times for Sueños 2025, officially starting the countdown to this year’s fest, returning May 24-25th, 2025 at Grant Park, in the Heart of Downtown Chicago.

Each festival day promises electric performances from an array of Latin A-Listers, running the gamut of generations and styles. To close out Saturday, Sueños presents back-to-back performances from two icons: Peso Pluma, then Shakira. Shakira’s set will be the longest in Sueños history, with a two-hour runtime and tour production. The two generational stars finish a day filled with exciting artists of multiple genres, including Reggaeton legend Arcangel, dembow boss El Alfa, rising Mexican music star Oscar Maydon, Nicaraguan-American DJ Gordo, rising pop star Maria Becerra, and genre-bending Mexican rapper Nsqk, and any more. On Sunday, the legendary Don Omar ends the festival on a high note, preceded by heavy-hitters like reggaeton vet Wisin and Texas troubadours Grupo Frontera. Earlier in the day, fans can look forward to corridos tumbados star Tito Double P, Platinum-selling singer-songwriter JHAYCO, EDM DJ Deorro, Mexican rapper Bellakath, innovative riser Omar Courtz, and others.

Limited single-day and 2-day passes for Sueños 2025, including “Buy Now, Pay Later” plans, are available at suenosmusicfestival.com.

Along with the performing artists, this year’s Sueños brings new and improved festival components, including an expanded grounds with a second stage and dance zone equipped for maximum perreo, more food vendors, bars, seating, and shade, and a bigger staff to cater to the festival’s enthusiastic crowd. Earlier this year, Sueños announced “La Plaza,” a festival area inspired by Latin American city centers, and dedicated to spotlighting music from the city’s vibrant Latin community. Set times for local acts performing at “La Plaza,” including headliners LeManz and Los K-Bros, two of Chicago’s finest regional Mexican groups, have also been revealed. The Background:

Dedicated to making the music industry more accessible through education, mentorship, and more, multi-faceted nonprofit More In Music is an invaluable resource for aspiring professionals. This weekend, More In Music hosted the inaugural More In Music Conference at Cal State Northridge in Los Angeles, welcoming hundreds of current and aspiring music industry pros to network, engage in panel discussions, and attend workshops, all designed to give actionable advice and provide crucial context for those who wish to make a career in music.

Among the topics covered included data analysis in the music industry, A&R, artist management, breaking onto the scene as an artist, and navigating the industry as a professional, and notable speakers included L.A. hip-hop fixture DJ Hed, artists Fana Hues and Kenyon Dixon, producers like Ichiban Don and Killah B, and professionals from companies like Live Nation, Def Jam, TikTok, Spotify, CAA, Warner Records, UnitedMasters, YouTube, and more.

As day turned to night, the More In Music Conference gave way to the More In Music: Sound Mind Summit, a free event focused on wellness and mental health, and featuring a headlining performance from L.A. rapper D Smoke. Presented by the L.A. Department of Mental Health’s Take Action LA (“Take Action for Yourself, Take Action for Others, and Take Action for your Community”), the Sound Mind Summit featured Fireside Chat with Dr. Carroll Brown and D Smoke about mental wellness best practices for artists, and created   a supportive space for open discussions on mental well-being while connecting students and the community with valuable resources.

Uniquely among conferences of this type, More In Music was executed and organized by a Cohort of students, who work edin tandem with the More In Music team, a group of expert Industry Facilitators, and the More In Music Advisory Board to produce the event in its entirety. The conference was a valuable learning experience for students, providing college students and the Los Angeles community-at-large with the opportunity to gain exposure to careers in the music industry, and learn from some of the most accomplished executives in the business.

In 2024, Sueños Music Festival contributed $240 million to the Chicago economy and paid $1,992,952 in direct rent payments to the Chicago Park District. Additionally, the festival generated more than $2.01 million in amusement tax revenue for the City of Chicago and Cook County.

Now in its 4th year, Sueños is quickly becoming an institution in the Chicago community and a premier destination for Latin music fans from all around the world. In Fall 2024, Sueños producers C3 Presents and La Familia Presenta, secured a new 5-year deal with the City of Chicago and the Chicago Park District, which will allow the Sueños team to continue bringing music lovers together in one of the nation’s most vibrant cities.
