Young Dolph lives the life of a boss, but he never forgets the unfortunate circumstances he was able to escape. Taking time to enjoy the fruit of his labors, Dolph shares “Hashtag,” his new music video. An ominous heater produced by Memphis native Sosa808, “Hashtag” is a lyrical showcase for the Paper Route EMPIRE CEO, as he crafts hooks out of repeated phrases and emphasizes the importance of giving his kids the kind of life he never could’ve dreamed of when he was younger: “VS1 rocks in my ears and they all in my bracelet/My lil’ boy wear Rolex, my daughter wear a diamond anklet.” In the video, directed by Dolph himself under the Paper Route Pictures, Dolph kicks back in a Miami hotel room with a vixen, rocking the same Dior bucket hat and Cartier glasses he references in the song. “Hashtag” is the latest video from Dum & Dummer 2, Dolph’s recent collaborative album with PRE’s own Key Glock.
Debuting at #8 on the Billboard 200, Dum & Dummer 2 generated nearly 36k sales equivalent units across platforms and scored the fifth-biggest streaming debut on Spotify during its first week of release. Earlier this month, the album received a glowing review from Pitchfork, who awarded the album a 7.5 score and cemented Young Dolph & Key Glock as a “once-in-a-generation” rap duo, akin to 8Ball & MJG or Method Man & Redman, and “one of the most in-sync alliances in the genre today.” Dum & Dummer 2 is the duo’s second Top 10 album, following the original Dum and Dummer, which debuted at #8 in 2019.
Dum and Dummer 2 finds Dolph & Glock operating at a high level of craftsmanship, charisma, and luxury. With artwork that references MTV’s most famous duo, Beavis & Butthead, Dum & Dummer 2 establishes the two rappers (and cousins) as two halves of the same brain, each seamlessly picking up threads and finishing lines that the other leaves off. With production from PRE’s own Bandplay, among others, Dum & Dummer 2 is home to a series of standout singles, including the hauntingly flex-heavy“Case Closed,“ the classily ratchet “Sleep With The Roaches,“ the ice cold opening track “Penguins,” the Young Dolph-directed “RAIN RAIN,” and the soulful winter-weather celebration “Aspen,” which has over 7 million views on YouTube.
