Video: Young Dolph – “The Land”

The Paper Route EMPIRE CEO Shines a Light on Some Harsh Realities About Life as a Black Man in America in His Latest Video from Rich Slave

The Video:

“The police pulled me over for nothin’, just because she racist (Damn, man)
Two minutes later, it’s five police cars, they got me face down on the pavement (Goddamn, man)
Just ’cause I’m a black man in America (What about it?)
That’s what give them permission to treat us terrible (Hell nah)”
– Young Dolph

Always starkly honest in his rhymes, Young Dolph uses his talent for real talk to shine a light on crucial issues like racial equality and police brutality in The Land,” his latest music video. Detailing a real encounter Dolph had with the police, “The Land” is a merciless takedown of America’s founding myths, exposing the hypocrisy of a country where your color of skin determines your quality of life: “They say this the land of the free (That’s a lie)/It seem like the land of bullsh*t to me,” intones Dolph. Directed by Paper Route Pictures, the video for “The Land” re-enacts Dolph’s fateful police encounter in vivid detail, as Dolph is pulled over for the crime of being Black and owning a camo-wrapped Lambo, before a violent officer shoves his knee into Dolph’s back. In the video’s second half, the Paper Route EMPIRE CEO vents his frustration with the nation’s racist criminal justice system, tagging a police car with righteously angry messages (“RIP Breonna Taylor,” “No Justice No Peace”) before smashing it to bits with a baseball bat.

“The Land” is the searing centerpiece of Rich Slave, Dolph’s deeply personal and highly successful new album. Emphasizing his Memphis roots with Dirty South instrumentals, the album explores Dolph’s rags to riches story, while taking time to reflect on the glass ceiling on the upward mobility of Black people; no amount of money allows you to escape racism as a Black person in this country. Featuring singles like the West Coast tribute Death Row, the conversational Blue Diamonds (6.9 million views), and the Megan Thee Stallion-featuring riders’ anthem RNB,” Rich Slave peaked at #4 on the Billboard 200 and hit #1 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart, selling over 65k units and generating over 44 million on-demand streams in its first week. Home to video singles Cray Cray (3.9 million views),  What’s Da Bizness” (1.8 million views) and “Hold Up Hold Up Hold Up” (5 million views) Rich Slave is available everywhere via Paper Route EMPIRE.
