The Song:
East Oakland’s ymtk is known for his sophisticated and wavy blend of rap and R&B, often combining summery soundscapes with emotional tales of love. Sometimes, however, ymtk just wants his tracks to slap. With his cascading, melodic auto-tune gracing a bass-heavy hyphy instrumental, ymtk illustrates a moment of euphoria on “In This Moment.” Featuring a typically energetic verse from HBK Gang majordomo P-Lo, “In This Moment” is an ideal club jam, with a danceable beat, booming bass, and brilliant production flourishes that makes the track as fun to listen to with headphones as with Hennessy. Premiered by ELEVATOR and produced by Ekzakt and P-Lo, “In This Moment” is the latest single from ymtk’s upcoming 9Song.Wav, following the VIBE-premiered summer jam “Confetti.”
The follow-up to last year’s All The Right Places, which featured “No Job,” one of SF Weekly’s Best Bay Area Songs of 2016, 9Song.Wav is a loose narrative about different stages of love, each song using different metaphors and double entendres to interpret complex emotions and situations. Featuring appearances from P-Lo and Ye Ali and boasting the previously released jam “Undivided“, 9Song.Wav will extend your internal summer far past Labor Day, with ymtk’s silken voice as your constant companion through the darker months. Most recently, ymtk shared a video for “Fall In Place,” a highlight from All The Right Places, premiered by GrungeCake.
