2.7.2017

Critical Praise:

“The sounds of Atlanta hip-hop remained dominant in 2016 thanks in part to a steady stream of new ideas and new stars. One of the most promising up-and-comers is YFN Lucci.”Billboard

Artist to Watch in 2017: YFN Lucci – HotNewHipHop

The Announcement:

A promising young rapper with a proven track record of hits, Atlanta’s YFN Lucci is primed for a breakout in the coming year. After dominating airwaves with the Billboard Hot 100 charting “Key to the Streets,” YFN Lucci looks to continue his hot streak with “Never Worried,” which gives YFN Lucci fans a sneak peak of what to expect from his new EP, releasing on February 17th. Premiered by XXL, “Never Worried” finds the Think It’s A Game Records rapper lounging over slick production from June James, embracing his newfound lavish lifestyle and focusing on growing his ends. YFN Lucci gave us the first taste of the upcoming EP with the PnB Rock-featuring single “Everyday We Lit,” which is currently working its way up the radio charts as a new anthem. Look out for the video coming soon that celebrates how any day of the week is a great day to get lit. Following the project’s release, YFN Lucci will join Jeezy and Lil Durk on Jeezy’s Trap or Die 3 Tour, which embarks on March 1st with a show in Kansas City, and ends on April 6th in San Diego.

“I’m just stating that I’m never worried about things I have no control over,” explains YFN Lucci about “Never Worried.” “Females that come and go. Conversations that’s not about making money, such as all the gossip in the industry. I’m never worried about none of that. For 2017 I plan to continue giving my fans great music. I have my EP coming out February 17th. After that I plan to release a project with my YFN brothers. Then I’m going to follow that up with my album. I plan on just giving my fans more of me, unlike my first two years in the game when I just released one project each year. More number one records on the way, you smell me.”

As a reward for years spent building an organic fanbase in Atlanta, YFN Lucci earned his first major hit in 2016 with “Key to the Streets,” a critical and commercial success. Featuring a high-profile assist from Quavo on the hook and first verse, “Key To The Streets” built momentum throughout the year, accumulating over 40 million YouTube views, peaking at #70 at the Billboard charts, and reaching #1 on Mediabase‘s urban airplay chart. The standout track from Wish Me Well 2, which HotNewHipHop praised as one of the Hottest 20 Mixtapes of 2016 and XXL praised as one of the 50 Best Hip-Hop Projects of 2016, “Key To the Streets” propelled YFN Lucci to industry recognition with Billboard and HotNewHipHop each naming him an Artist To Watch for 2016. After a year of breakout success and collaborations with artists such as Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz, who joined YFN Lucci for a “Keys To The Streets” remix, as well as Migos, Plies, Young Scooter, and Lil Durk, YFN Lucci is poised for an even bigger year in 2017.

Think It’s A Game Records Background

Think It’s A Game Records was established in 2012 by founder/CEO Girvan “Fly” Henry. In just four short years, the Atlanta-based company—in conjunction with its TIG7 Publishing division— has become one of the music industry’s fastest-rising independent labels. Home to artists such as YFN Lucci, Trinidad James, and Rich Homie Quan, Think It’s A Game has scored multiple No. 1 singles, including “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)” by Rich Homie Quan and “Key to the Streets” by YFN Lucci featuring Trouble and Migos, as well as three BMI Awards and earning praise from Forbes, HotNewHipHop and XXL. The label’s roster also includes Atlanta rappers ForteBowie and Road Man OG, along with TIG7’s latest signee, songwriter/producer June James, whose credits include rapper Plies (“Big Faces”) and production on YFN Lucci’s “Key to the Streets” and “Everyday We Lit” featuring PnB Rock—the latter of which is the first single from Lucci’s forthcoming debut album. First and foremost, Think It’s A Game Records is dedicated to what Henry calls the “lost art” of talent development. “It’s all about passion for me; that’s a key ‘it’ factor in the developmental process,” adds the 34-year-old CEO. “Whenever you hear our label tag, you’ll know that you’re about to hear quality music.”

EMPIRE Background

EMPIRE was founded in 2010 as an artist-friendly, progressive digital distribution company. After early success, and identifying future icons such as Kendrick Lamar, Sage The Gemini, and Rich Homie Quan, EMPIRE was quickly regarded as a tastemaker in the industry and throughout the past five years evolved into a full-fledged record label, distributor and publisher for independent musicians. With the company and roster growing at a breakneck pace, EMPIRE has effectively disrupted a stale business model by bringing its energy, expertise, and acumen to its artists and labels. Given its reputation, EMPIRE works with today’s hottest talent from superstars such as T.I. and red-hot newcomers such as Anderson .Paak. While remaining 100% independent, EMPIRE has also partnered with Atlantic Records for a joint venture, home to breakout star D.R.A.M. and joined forces with Republic Records for the release of Sage The Gemini’s Remember Me album.
