Critical praise for The Wheeland Brothers:

“What makes the Wheeland Brothers great is that they represent their roots. They’re just a couple of surfer bums making beach reggae music, and they make it well” – The Pier

“When the stress of the modern world threatens to pop your skull like a watermelon under a Kardashian ass, we recommend taking a breath and finding your happy place. Should you require help finding said happy place, tune your ears to the OC-cultivated sounds of the Wheeland Brothers.” – OC Weekly

“Muchos Mahalos is a real SoCal special. If you’ve never been, never experienced the relaxed vibe, the way that people enjoy life there, you can at least get a taste of it with this album.” – The Daily Album

“The band overall had a young, unrefined sound and definitely put on an unforgettable show.” – The Surf Channel

The Video:

After releasing the teaser trailer earlier this year, the self-proclaimed “beach rock reggae” group, Wheeland Brothers, drop their latest video single, “Like You Do.” The video follows the release of last month’s loose single, “Summer Stars,” a track describing the beauty of a summer romance and aspirations of a future relationship. The “Like You Do” premieres with an interview via The Surf Channel, and was released on the album, Muchos Mahalos, in July of 2013. The group toured over the last year to promote the record playing notable music festivals including Firefly, Wakarusa, High Sierra, and Summer Camp.

The video depicts the Wheeland Brothers in their natural element; playing music on the beach, relaxing in the sand, surfing, and dreaming of the distant shores. “Like You Do” is highlighted by beaches, boards, beanies and bikinis courtesy of professional surfer Tia Blanco, who appears throughout the video, singing along with the song’s vocals and riding the waves on her board. The lyrics feature similar themes to “Summer Stars,” depicting summer love as the group sings “Pretty baby be mine in summertime, we can share the sunshine /  Bounce to the bass line, with hands on your waist line,” styled with classic skank reggae guitar strokes on the offbeats.

Wheeland Brothers Background:

The Wheeland Brothers are two Southern Californian brothers who grew up in Orange County surfing, scarfing down hole-in-the wall Mexican food, and jamming around bonfires. Their music has a sound which they describe as “beach rock reggae”; inspired by waves, hangin’ with friends, and dreaming of distant shores. Fast forward to 2014 and they have played Firefly, Wakarusa, High Sierra and Summer Camp Music Festivals, have supported national acts such as but not limited to 311, Bob Marley’s legendary band The Wailers and Slightly Stoopid, are currently being spun on radio stations nationwide in addition to music choice on TV and have received commercial syncs with Forever 21 and Hollister Co. The only downside to their busy new schedule is having less time surfing their favorite secret spots. The waves will have to wait.
