The Song:

L.A. via Sacramento singer/songwriter Victoria Monet shares her first single since last year’s Nightmares & Lullabies: Act II EP. Premiered by Complex, “Good Life (Yea Yea Yea)” is a classic R&B cut, as the singer reflects on a hard day’s work while embracing that it’s all worth it to come too the moonlight, which could also play as a double entendre for a significant other that she’s returning home to. Her silky vocals elegantly descend over Dmile‘s silky percussion, with Monét echoing, “all these city lights, shining in my eyes, and the moon is looking bright as we approach midnight.”

“Good Life” dives into a moonlight theme that Victoria Monét crafted working alongside Ariana Grande. “I love everything about the moonlight, stars, sunlight and Nature in general really,” explains Monét. “I feel like Ariana and I both have a good grasp of reality, but balance it out with our wild imagination and love for romance and fantasy worlds! We are very different artists, but our hearts are the same.”

Victoria Monét concluded a break-through 2015 strong, co-writing Ariana Grande’s Christmas & Chill EP, which they completed in four days after building a studio in the pop superstar’s home. The New Year also brought big things for Monét, as she delivered a powerful chorus on Dr. Dre’s T.I. and Justus-assisted “Back to Business.” In addition to working with Ariana Grande, Victoria has also penned songs for Fifth Harmony, and Jordin Sparks, in addition to collaborations with Machine Gun Kelly, B.o.B., and Nas. Monét’s Nigtmares & Lullabies: Act II project, which premiered via Billboard, features T.I., and follows her Nightmares & Lullabies: Act I EP. “As crazy as this sounds, the EP makes me feel like a mother,” Victoria explained to Billboard. “Strict with standards, protective and critical, but proud and anxious to share the beauty of it. It’s in my blood, my DNA, my soul.”

Victoria Monet Background:

From her toddler days spent growing up in Sacramento, California, R&B singer Victoria Monét has used various creative mediums-dancing, singing, poetry-to express herself, using lessons gleaned from relationships and her interpretations of the world around her to find her niche as a sensual vocalist with unparalleled songwriting skills and, most importantly, a message that people can relate to.

Fans may recognize Monét from features on hits from T.I. and Machine Gun Kelly, but it was with her 2014 debut EP Nightmares & Lullabies – Act 1, which touts guest appearances from B.o.B and Ty Dolla $ign, that her artistic vision crystalized. Monet’s music may be intensely personal, but it’s relating to her listeners that keeps her motivated. “I feel I want to share my own story,” she says. “There’s a girl out there who was shy like me, who maybe didn’t know how to express herself any other way. I want to represent that person, the underdog that no one thought would make it and would just be submissive and not be heard.”
