The Song:

Singer/songwriter Victoria Monét has penned songs for several notable acts, with Ariana Grande calling her her “favorite writer.” Now, she’s ready to step into the spotlight with her forthcoming EP, Nightmares & Lullabies: Act II, slated to release June 16. Yesterday, Victoria shared her second single off the EP, “High Luv,” via Pigeons & Planes, who said the track “blurs the lines between R&B and pop—making it feel like the perfect song to take over the airwaves this summer,” adding that “Victoria Monét proves that she clearly knows how to make a hit.”

The dreamy, infectious track is produced by Tommy Brown, whose credits include T.I., Travi$ Scott, and 2 Chainz, with additional production by Travis Sayles and Mr. Franks. “We always start off small, with minimal sounds,” Victoria Monét explained of her recording process to Pigeons & Planes. “Tommy Brown has all these lasers in the studio so it was really vibed out. And that’s just the idea that came to mind. Once the little reference was done, they want back and re-produced everything and added all these sounds, and drums, and little extra things that made it feel special to me.”

Earlier this month, Victoria celebrated her birthday with the release of her nostalgic “90’s Babies” visual, which debuted via V Magazine. The L.A.-based artist was also recently featured in Machine Gun Kelly‘s “A Little More.” Proving her writing talents with work on Ariana Grande’s debut and sophomore album as well as tracks for Nas, Chrisette Michele, and Fifth Harmony, Victoria Monét is ready to shine through as a singer in the forefront. Her forthcoming EP, Nightmares & Lullabies: Act II, is dropping this summer on June 16.

From her toddler days spent growing up in Sacramento, California, R&B singer Victoria Monet has used various creative mediums-dancing, singing, poetry-to express herself, using lessons gleaned from relationships and her interpretations of the world around her to find her niche as a sensual vocalist with unparalleled songwriting skills and, most importantly, a message that people can relate to.

Fans may recognize Monet from features on hits from T.I. and Machine Gun Kelly, but it was with her 2014 debut EP Nightmares & Lullabies – Act 1, which touts guest appearances from B.o.B and Ty Dolla $ign, that her artistic vision crystalized.
