TikTok Treats, Week of November 1st
U2 Joins TikTok, Kanye West Inspires A Transformation Challenge, and Rising Artists Provide Good Vibes
The News:
Each week, the TikTok Treats newsletter gives a snapshot of the state of music on TikTok, touching on trending hits, emerging artists, superstar moves, ascendant memes, and much more. From Afropop to Latin jazz, check out some of the tracks and trends that are making waves on TikTok:
- TikTok rocked out its biggest #Rocktober celebration to date with icons The Beatles and Led Zeppelin joining the app, a host of TikTok LIVE performances from bands like Papa Roach and Simple Plan, and various guitar-fueled playlists. To close out #Rocktober with a bang, it was just announced that U2 has joined TikTok! Creators will now be able to use iconic tracks like “Beautiful Day,” “One,” and “Where The Streets Have No Name” to soundtrack their creations. In addition to announcing their arrival on the app, the band’s official page teased a new song for fans, featuring artwork by…Bono!
- Kanye West is no stranger to having a moment on TikTok, previously trending with songs such as “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” (32.7K+ user-generated and platform-generated creations combined) and “On Sight” (16.7K+ creations). This week, Ye is trending again with his devout rap anthem, “Praise God” (993.3K+ creations). Sampling his mother Donda West’s keynote address at the 17th annual Gwendolyn Brooks Writers’ Conference, “Praise God” has creators sharing their best day-to-night transformations. Creators show how they go from “girl next door” to bombshell, suited up businessman to shirtless beefcake, and loungewear to colorful party dresses.
- TikTok consistently provides a space for creators to display self-confidence as well as demonstrate their immense talent. The TikTok community is fully leaning into this space this week, with the sweet sounds of Ghanian-American singers Amaarae & Moliy’s “Sad Girlz Luv Money (Remix)” ft. Kali Uchis (150.6K+ creations) leading the way. The Spanish-language remix to the ethereal Afro-pop track is perfect for creators looking to exhibit their intricate nail art skills, dance expertise, and how their cool tattoos boost their confidence. It’s even inspired creations from moms who catch their hilarious toddlers trying to sneak a cell phone into their backpack for school. Amaarae and Kali Uchis have been engaging with the track on their own pages, both displaying their makeup mastery.
- The TikTok community is all for good vibes and it’s only right that they have the music to match. NEIKED, Mae Muller, and Polo G have creators looking forward to “Better Days” with their upbeat song. Boasting over 97.9K creations, Polo G’s emphatic lyrics, “Pray for better days, now it’s 300k when my day ends/ Do you remember last night? ‘Cause I blacked out,” soundtracks creators reflecting on a wild girls night out, sharing ideas for best friend poses, and being unable to contain their laughter as they do silly dances with their friends. Reflecting on the Halloween weekend, creators also share their humorous thoughts on costume choices for the spooky holiday.
- As the holiday season approaches, the TikTok community is in the mood for music that evokes happiness. Monsieur Periné and Vicente García are keeping the good times rolling with their light-hearted Spanish-language track, “Nuestra Canción” (335K+ creations). Singing of a lover replacing the sadness of their lives with flowers and colors, “Nuestra Canción” is trending alongside a footwork-heavy dance by creator @leonardolatina. In other creations, TikTok users create spicy ramen concoctions, share adorable videos making their pets dance, and show off their best moves with a comedic twist by wearing a dress.
For its 2021 celebration of soulful sounds and sweater weather vibes, TikTok is shifting from a rowdy #Rocktober to a sultry #RnBvibes November. To kick off TikTok’s celebration, R&B darlings Summer Walker and JoJo will both be taking to their TikTok pages to engage with their dedicated fans. Summer Walker will host an album Q&A on November 5th at 5 PM PT as she gears up for the release of her new album Still Over It. JoJo will host a Q&A and performance on November 10th at 5 PM PT to celebrate her new EP trying not to think about it. Stay tuned for more exciting #RnBvibes content this month, from an array of R&B playlists curated by Alicia Keys, Mario, and Silk Sonic to experiences with Khalid, Kehlani, Normani, and Tiwa Savage.
