Each week, the TikTok Treats newsletter gives a snapshot of the state of music on TikTok, touching on trending hits, emerging artists, superstar moves, ascendant memes, and much more. Check out this week’s trends below:

- Lil Yachty may or may not have smuggled contraband during a recent trip to an EU nation, but he certainly has one of the most viral songs on TikTok. The Atlanta rapper shared an entrancing snippet of his new song “Poland” on SoundCloud, driving TikTok creators and other denizens of the internet into a frenzy. With over 20k total creations in the past week, Yachty’s quavering ode to his favorite medication inspired a universe of memes, as creators, including rapper DDG, document their journey from puzzlement to obsession with the song, make puns about musclebound Hollywood stars, question Yachty’s decision-making, or theorize how he created the song’s signature vocal effect. Other creators indulge in a surreal trend that plays off the rapper’s vibrato, record an electric guitar version of the melody, create their own leg-kicking dance moves, and bake bread with Yachty’s likeness. Buoyed by its growing online momentum, Yachty officially released the song on Tuesday, and prepares for perhaps the largest commercial debut of his career. Meanwhile, fans in Poland are just happy that their home country is the subject of such wide-ranging conversation.

- Blink 182, pop-punk’s most popular power trio, is back, and fans are rejoicing. The band behind “All The Small Things” made a big announcement this week: the original lineup of Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker are reuniting for their first album and tour since 2015. The band let the cat out of the bag with an announcement on their TikTok account, braving the heat of the Cali sun in oversized rabbit costumes to promote their upcoming single “Edging,” coming Friday with a video directed by Cole Bennett. The snippet of “Edging” is available as a sound on TikTok, and fans are already using it to signal their excitement for the return of their favorite band to its original form.
- Memphis rapper GloRilla and Bronx superstar Cardi B are both favorite artists of the TikTok community, previously trending on the platform with songs like GloRilla’s “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” (399K+ total creations) and Cardi’s “Up” (3.1M+ total creations). Joining forces in late September for their collaboration, “Tomorrow 2,” the duo is trending once again on TikTok. Garnering over 110K total creations, the high-energy track inspires creators to shout the lyrics with their besties. Creators tap their friends to recite Cardi B’s emphatic verse in call-and-response style as they prepare for Halloween, hang out in the hallway between classes, and chill on the bleachers during a school event. Cardi B did her part to keep the song circulating on TikTok, attempting to remake GloRilla’s signature dance move. The song’s viral success earned GloRilla and Cardi B a top 3 spot on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. Additionally, “Tomorrow 2” made a top 10 debut on the Hot 100 chart, becoming GloRilla’s first top 10 and top 40 hit and Cardi B’s 11th Hot 100 Top 10 hit.
- From Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for Hero” to Kate Bush’s recently chart-topping “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God),” 80s pop has continued to emerge as one of the most popular genres among the TikTok community. The newest 80s bop to make its rounds on the platform is When In Rome’s 1988 new wave hit “The Promise.” With over 46.7K total creations, the song inspires creators to express their affinity for 80s music, make cocktails inspired by less-than-desirable behavior from their exes, and create slideshows of relatable Kermit memes. One of the most interesting uses of “The Promise” comes from @RodgerCleye, a creator who specializes in karaoke versions of popular songs and takes requests from the TikTok community.

- Creators on TikTok love to soundtrack their videos with sped up songs. Mazie’s bubbly, indie pop track “dumb dumb” is receiving the sped-up treatment on TikTok this week to the tune of over 417K total creations. Creators accept crochet challenges, comedically admit that their friends always stand up for them, or film their adorable babies dancing to the sound, and much more. Mazie engaged with the song on her account, comically suggesting that the “Why Am I Dumb?” filter is accurate, displaying her trippy day in nature, and explaining her astrological chart. Most recently, she excitedly expressed her gratitude to her fans for racking up over 1M views on the “dumb dumb” video and over 250K Spotify streams on the song’s sped-up version in the first 24 hours of its release.
- GloRilla and Cardi B are not the only ones inspiring trends that TikTok creators can do with the help of a friend. Breathing new life into Soulja Boy’s 2010 hit “Pretty Boy Swag” (285.4K+ creations), the TikTok community participates in a trend where they reveal their interesting personality traits in contrast to their loved ones. Using Soulja Boy’s emphatic lines, “I’m looking for a yellow bone, long haired star/Thick in the hips, come get in my car,” creators reveal that their parents fulfill their nail maintenance needs, balance out their boyfriend’s nonchalant attitudes with hyper energy, and confirm that they are spoiled grandchildren. Guy Fieri also joined in on the fun with his son, who revealed that the former always cooks for him and his best friends.
- New Jersey rapper Is0kenny’s new hit “Speak Up” is trending on TikTok behind a trend that encourages creators to proudly demand the whole truth. Kenny introduced the song on TikTok with a skit, in which Kenny mumbles his lyrics into the mic and grows increasingly more intelligible at the urging of his engineer (also played by Kenny). Initially labeled as the “MUMBLE FLOW CHALLENGE,” the song’s call-and-response hook resonates with creators who have no time for mealy-mouthed double-talk, whether they’re navigating friendships as a new parent, negotiating for better pay at their job, or rejecting the advances of an ex. With over 150k video creations since September 23rd, the song’s TikTok success led to a massive streaming performance for the song–it has over 591k streams on Spotify alone since its official release on October 4th. Meanwhile, Kenny continues to promote the song, duetting his favorite examples and re-living his experiences as a class clown in high school.
