Taylor Swift Debuts a New Creative Effect, Lady Gaga Posts Her First TikTok, & Remble Rises Again with Lil Yachty

Each week, the TikTok Treats newsletter gives a snapshot of the state of music on TikTok, touching on trending hits, emerging artists, superstar moves, ascendant memes, and much more. From Taylor Swift to Bay Area rap, check out some of the tracks and trends that are taking off on TikTok:
- Taylor Swift officially graced TikTok with her presence in August to engage with her fans and tease the re-release of her iconic 2012 album Red. Now, the songstress is ready to lean into fall with a new, autumn-inspired TikTok creative effect to celebrate the highly anticipated release of her album Red (Taylor’s Version)! The effect is prompted by a blink, which turns the screen red and causes falling leaves to trickle across the screen. Before and after Taylor joined the app, #SwiftTok has celebrated the iconic singer-songwriter’s music and content to the tune of over 2.9B views. Now, Taylor’s dedicated fans can use the #SwiftTok tag to join in on all the Red-related fun the new creative effect and new music have to offer.
- Just as her new TikTok creative effect and music arrive on the app, another one of Taylor Swift’s songs is taking off on the platform. Her dreamy 2019 title track “Lover” (87K+ creations) is not only making way for heartwarming wedding photoshoots and adorable baby travelers but also for an unexpected comedic trend. TikTok user @stazzylicious displayed her lengthy post-night out routine, prompting hilarious #stitch effect creations from users who aren’t quite as disciplined with their post-night out self care. While some users are exposing the effects of a wild night on their morning mirror-flicks, others are demonstrating their next-morning barefoot walks of shame as they carry all their belongings through a parking lot.
- It is an unspoken rule among many that the holiday season begins immediately after Halloween. Though Thanksgiving is on the horizon, the TikTok community is already gearing up for Christmas with Mariah Carey’s joyful holiday tune, “All I Want for Christmas is You” (8.2M+ creations). Evoking the holiday spirit over a month early, Mariah Carey’s upbeat carol has creators in the mood for all things Christmas. In most recent creations, TikTok users share their Christmas-themed nails, offer their best gift-wrapping tips, and prepare themselves to celebrate the holiday with their significant other. Mariah Carey also joined in on the fun on her own TikTok account, using the sound to officially declare the start of the holidays.
- There is one thing that California and the TikTok community have in common: they are both home to some of the most memorable dances and songs. Previously propelling Kenndog’s Symphony No. 9-sampling “Beethoven” to virality (42.1K+ creations), creators are now showing off their best dance moves to Bay Area rapper Remble and Lil Yachty’s “Rocc Climbing” (189K+ creations). Using Remble’s tongue-twisting line, “I done been block to block in crocs and socks,” TikTok users are doing their best renditions of a dance choreographed by creators Andrea Posner and Caleb Green. In other creations, users show off their happy dances as they ignore phone calls, avoid making plans with others, and peel back the onion on their significant other’s romantic tendencies.
- The TikTok community’s “Poker Face” is turning into a smile – Lady Gaga just posted her first TikTok! One of pop music’s biggest stars has officially appeared on the app fabulously draped in Gucci. In perfectly grand Gaga fashion, the multi-talented artist’s first TikTok has already garnered 1.2M+ views and 349K+ likes in less than 24 hours on the app. The video creation finds Gaga transforming from bare-faced to belle glam to promote her new film House of Gucci, much to the delight of her deeply devoted “Little Monsters.”
- Earlier this year, the TikTok community propelled Nigerian singer Ckay to international fame when his song “Love Nwantiti” went viral on the platform. Boasting over 130M views and 4.2M+ platform and user-generated creations to date, “Love Nwantiti” received immense love on TikTok from creators such as Tracy Joseph, Mooya Musunga, and more. Ckay’s success with “Love Nwantiti” doesn’t stop at TikTok — the Afrobeats track was recently named the most-Shazamed song in the world ahead of hit songs by Justin Bieber and Kid Laroi. “Love Nwantiti” is proof positive that TikTok is the platform for music discovery and offers an unparalleled opportunity for up-and-coming artists to become global superstars.
