The Video:

Eccentric Dallas-via-Houston trio The Outfit, TX is joined by fellow Texas rapper Maxo Kream in their latest video single “Ü,” a dark, vibed-out offering from the group’s forthcoming album releasing later this year. “Ü” premiered with an interview via Noisey, who said “The Outfit, TX and Maxo Kream are the perfect Texas rap match… Both know how to take the raw, fun, and slightly sinister sound of forbears like DJ Screw and turn it into something modern—in a way that stays truer to that source material’s original spirit than, say, Drake attempting the same trick.”

In “Ü,” the Texas rappers mob out a bridge while delivering hooks and rhymes like “big rims when I ride / watch your bitch grin when I glide” and “you a player from the Himalayas /ghetto dope rhyme sayer.” On working with Maxo Kream, The Outfit, TX said “Maxo is an authentic hardhead, and that’s how a lot of hardheads move, and you rarely get authentic versions of those in hip-hop music, nowadays. Music needs that authenticity… So, to us, Maxo personifies our desires for more real ones to make it. We funk with each other off the strength of all of the aforementioned elements, and most importantly the mutual respect we have for each other. We wanna see each other win. Ü is the first of many more byproducts of this.”

After hitting the road with Run the Jewels on a Red Bull Sound Select tour during the 4th quarter of 2014, The Outfit, TX is ready to bring back their distinct sound to audiences in Texas and beyond. Their forthcoming album will serve as a follow-up to 2013’s Cognac/Four Corner Room, which was a double album – Cognac highlighting rap and production by Mel and Four Corner Room highlighting rap and production from Dorian. The project landed the group an interview with NPR’s Microphone Check and a spot in SPIN’s Best New Artists feature. Fans can catch The Outfit, TX on tour, dates and tickets here.

The Outfit, TX Background:

Born and raised in Dallas, producers and rappers Dorian, JayHawk, and Mel make up the hip-hop band The Outfit, TX. After forming while in school at University of Houston in 2006, they returned to Dallas to continue to work on their patented brand of “Cooly Fooly Space Age Funk.” Individually, each has their own respective sound and together, they expertly blend their unabashed Southern credo of smooth synth bass, moogs, 808s and synthesizers.

TOTX has performed with the likes of J. Cole, Wiz Khalifa, The Clipse, and Kendrick Lamar. They headlined their first sold out show at Warehouse Live in Houston, TX in March 2013, then hit the road, performing at several music festivals including A3C’s “Best in Texas” Showcase, and Spune’s Index Fest in Dallas, TX. The future holds much more for the three Southern gentlemen that comprise The Outfit,TX, who recently relocated back to Dallas from Houston. They might have put it best, describing their artistry as “one small step for Texas, one giant leap for Southern kind.”
