Critical Praise:

“That Mexican OT is a consummate entertainer: Sometimes he’s a down-and-dirty villain who cheats to win, other times he’s a comical babyface and a boisterous drunk… All the while, he underscores how syncretic Texas music has always been, infusing traditions from both sides of the border with his own idiosyncrasies. The result is a brightly colored spectacle, a freestyle brawl of rap styles and regional flavors.”Pitchfork

“That Mexican OT is having a moment…The 24-year-old from Bay City, Texas, is the latest regional Mexican performer to take over the hearts and minds of a music-loving world. But instead of corridos tumbados y bélicos or longing cumbias, Virgil Rene Gazca, better known as That Mexican OT (the OT stands for “Outta Texas”), is making waves in the world of third coast rap.”Los Angeles Times

“He’s got his fans hopped up on the same giddy multiculturalism as he is.”The FADER

“OT’s creativity and style is introducing something truly unprecedented to the rap industry and the relatively smaller landscape of Latin rap.” – Houston Chronicle

“The Texas rapper is climbing the charts and bridging generational divides”SPIN

“His deep bag of flows and lyrical creativity as well as his consistent musical output is impressive.”  – Lyrical Lemonade

“That Mexican OT’s Southern Trap Shines On ‘Lonestar Luchador’…OT (Outta Texas) delivers a charming Southern style partnered with his own Bay City flow that makes ‘Lonestar Luchador’ a must-listen.”HotNewHipHop

The Video:

That Mexican OT shares his new video for “15 Missed Calls,” a slinky Southern slapper featuring his associate Sploosh God. Produced by Subb, the song is a song for the smokers, but not those who stay at home in front of the TV–OT is an active stoner, getting loose and working his charm with baddies: “Fifteen missed calls from my lil’ bitch, she say I’ve been tripping lately/I say, “Nah, I just gotta get this money, I’m on a mission, baby.” In the video, directed by OT’s favorite shooter, DGreen Filmz, OT gives a glimpse into his SE Texas lifestyle, kicking it with his shirt off as he duets with a grizzled bluesman and invites Sploosh God to join the party.

“15 Missed Calls” is a highlight from OT’s brand new album Lonestar Luchador, recently acclaimed by Pitchfork (7.5). A concept album that draws parallels between the rap game and the high-flying world of Mexican wrestling, Lonestar Luchador is an ambitious effort that incorporates a world of wide-ranging influences and sharp pop cultural references into OT’s Texas-fried sound. Home to OT’s Billboard Hot 100 hit Johnny Dang,” which has generated over 67 million streams across platform including 8 million just last week, plus additional highlights like the bi-lingual banger “Barrio” ft. Lefty SM, the melodic and guitar-inflected revenge anthem Breannan,” and the villainesque stomper Cowboy Killer,” Lonestar Luchador is quickly climbing charts, reaching #1 on the Billboard Heatseekers Albums chart and climbing 35 spots on the Billboard 200 to reach a new peak of #71. Featuring additional guest appearances from BigXThaPlug and Big YavoLonestar Luchador is available everywhere via Manifest/GoodTalk/Good Money Global.

Lonestar Luchador arrived hot on the heels of “Johnny Dang,” That Mexican OT’s breakout hit, released earlier this summer. First gathering heat as a snippet on TikTok and Instagram (generating over 11 million views across the two platforms), “Johnny Dang” has become a sensation, garnering over 29 million Spotify streams and 17 million YouTube views since its late-May release. The Paul Wall and Drodi-featuring song has spent weeks in the top ten of Spotify’s U.S. Viral 50 chart, and just this week, hit a new #79 peak on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. “Johnny Dang” also currently sits at No. 19 on Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs and at No. 27 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. OT’s “From The Ranch” version of “Johnny Dang” recently caught viral traction on Twitter, inspiring “From The Block” filmmaker AZae to bring OT back for a second “From The Ranch,” this time for a performance of “Cowboy Killer.”

Last week, That Mexican OT announced the Lonestar Luchador Tour.” Commencing on September 10th in Denver, CO, the “Lonestar Luchador Tour” criss-crosses the country for 19 dates, stopping in New York (S.O.B.’s), Atlanta (Vinyl), and Los Angeles (The Echo) before concluding in Oakland on October 4th. Featuring support from OT’s “Johnny Dang” co-pilot Drodi, the tour promises the first-ever performances of songs from OT’s brand new album Lonestar Luchador. The Background:

That Mexican OT embodies Texas culture like few artists working in rap today. Born and bred in Bay City, TX, OT proudly represents the Third Coast, and his new album Lonestar Luchador is a singular combination of the bold flavors that come together to create Texas. OT’s music fuses the screwed-up sound and trunk rattle of Houston rap, the furious flows and methodical bars of East Coast hip-hop, and the throwback feeling of classic norteño and Tejano, a showcase of the diverse styles that made OT the one-of-a-kind MC he is today. He’s collaborated with indisputable Texas legends like Paul Wall on his single “Johnny Dang,” as well as OG Ron C on the chopped-not-slopped version of his mixtape Nonsense and Mexican Shit, placing him firmly in the legacy of Texas slab music. Signed to Manifest/GoodTalk/Good Money Global, That Mexican OT isn’t just looking to the past; he’s giving his own fresh twist to a classic sound, like a supercharged engine under the candy-painted hood of an old-school Impala.
