The EP:
Pittsburgh rapper Chevy Woods never asked to be the center of attention, but with the spotlight on him as his first retail project releases, the mixtape king is primed for a break out. Named after the block he was raised on in the Hazelwood area of Pittsburgh, The 48 Hunnid Project is a legacy-defining EP that finds Woods taking listeners on a journey from the hard times and harsh realities that came in his early years leading into the lavish lifestyle that’s come more recently with world tours and fame. âI say [â4800â] a lot, itâs where I come from,” Woods told the Pittsburgh City Paper in this week’s main music feature. “It represents me, and my mom still stays on that block. Itâs the family that is there, itâs the kids. Everything about that number is just me.â Speaking with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette about the EP, and why it took 12 years of consistent street releases to get to this first commercial release, Woods noted that âif you want to read a good book about someoneâs life, itâs not done in a year.â
The 48 Hunnid Project is a 7-track project that’s several years in the making for Chevy Woods. He’s joined by an all-star cast of youthful talent with Post Malone on “Getcha Some,” OG Maco on the Arthur McArthur-produced “Whole Lot,” and DeJ Loaf joining him on the lead single, “All Said And Done.” “It’s a personal song,” Woods told Billboard in their premiere of the track. “In some ways I got into a little trouble myself which made me realize how real that other side is. The song is my life in 3 minutes — they’re stories I’ve been waiting to tell and now I’ve got a platform to speak from.” Additionally, Woods teams up with Rico Love, who is featured on and produced “Wit Me.” “The Rico Love song is special to me, just cause of the relationship that we have,” Woods told HipHopDX. “We talk while I’m on tour and while he’s doing what he’s doing, congratulate each other, and it’s just, like, a good friendship.” Lastly, Woods is joined by his Taylor Gang partner Wiz Khalifa on “Lookin Back,” a track that finds the long-time cohorts reflecting on their journey, which began when they met at Pittsburgh studio ID Labs before the two set out on the Waken Baken tour in 2010.
Chevy Woods has long provided a voice for young people that have been subject to gritty, violent inner-city living, and continues his tenure with The 48 Hunnid Project, which is available today via online distributers. Woods is currently performing as a special guest on the Boys of Zummer Tour with Wiz Khalifa, Hoodie Allen, and Fall Out Boy, which you can view dates for here.

Chevy Woods has been building up momentum with his mixtapes Red Cup Music, The Cook Out, and the Gangland series, progressing his sound with each release. After years of writing and recording in his home studio, Chevy traded in his keyboard for cash to pay for studio time. In 2004, while recording at Pittsburghâs I.D. Labs Studios, Chevy encountered Wiz Khalifa and the two instantly formed a bond. “Me and Wiz, we always had each otherâs backs. Since we were both recording at I.D. Labs at the same time, we would hold each other down,” Chevy has explained. “Even if it was just picking up Wendyâs for the other one on our way to the studio.”
