Critical Praise for Tuki Carter:
“Shades of Kendrick’s flow and Wiz’s charm, and quite a backstory–it appears the spacey ‘Yeah’ is another step towards Tuki carving out his own corner” – The FADER
“One of the most talented artists in the hip-hop industry” – HotNewHipHop
The Mixtape:
A cerebral rapper with a soft-spoken Southern drawl, Taylor Gang‘s Tuki Carter shares his label boss Wiz Khalifa‘s passion for art, fashion, and especially weed. Rhyming over hazy, bass-heavy, weeded-out instrumentals, Tuki fully explores his pothead side on The Tuki Toker Tape, released today as a Datpiffexclusive. Originally a tattoo artist and entrepreneur behind tattoo parlor franchise City of Ink, Tuki first connected with Taylor Gang through Rick Ross, who filmed the video for “Super High (Remix)” at Tuki’s parlor. Five years later, Tuki is an integral part of the gang, making several appearances on the label compilation tape TGOD Vol. 1 and enlisting many of the label’s artists and producers for his tapes. Featuring appearances from Wiz Khalifa, J.R. Donato, Gangsta Boo, Aleon Craft, Big Cheepa and Go Dreamer, as well as production from Ricky P., Rah Groove, Montage, RMB Justize, and others, The Tuki Toker Tape is purpose-built for the thinking stoner, ideal for soundtracking end-of-night smoke sessions.
Tuki Carter got his start as part of the same underground SoCal Hip-Hop scene that birthed The Pharcyde and the Black Eyed Peas. Though music was a passion, he felt that his true talent lay in the visual arts, particularly drawing and painting. While pursuing a degree at the Art Institute of Atlanta, he developed a passion for tattoo artistry, founding City of Ink, where he inked several top artists in the music industry, such as Rick Ross, Usher, Young Jeezy, Canibus, and more.Through Rick Ross, Tuki met Wiz Khalifa in 2007, which led to a long and fruitful collaborative relationship between the two and establishing Tuki as one of Wiz’s top lieutenants in Taylor Gang.
Prior to The Tuki Toker Tape, Tuki shared the video for eerie banger “Texting and Driving,” complete with hula-hoopers, toy car joyriders, and footwork dancers and a smoke-filled video for the laidback “Get High Freestyle.”The Tuki Toker Tape follows up to last year’s Tuki, which featured appearances from Berner, Smoke DZA, Key! and charted three singles, “Chirp,” “Good,” and “Yeah,” on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chart. A 16-track treat for the heads, The Tuki Toker Tape is an appealing appetizer for his next album, Flowers & Planes, expected in 2017. “I don’t want to be the next big something,” says Tuki Carter. “I want to be a staple in the world for art and music.” The Tuki Toker Tape is available to download for free exclusively on Datpiff.

Tuki Carter is more than just a rapper—he’s an artist. For more than a decade, the Atlanta-based visionary has lived and breathed art, embracing audio and visual mediums through his love of hip-hop and tattooing and beyond. In turn, he’s established himself as one-of-a-kind in an industry where status quo is far too familiar, touring across the country and crafting creatively forward-thinking projects while living life as an entrepreneur, running the parlor franchise City of Ink as co-owner and giving artists including Rick Ross, Usher and Young Jeezy some of his fresh designs.
