Single: wifisfuneral – “Pop”

The Recent Alamo/Interscope Signee Drops A Bite-Size Loosie Demonstrating His Intricate Lyrics over a Deeply Unsettling Banger

6.23.2017

Critical Praise:

[wifisfuneral] displays an impressive array of verbal acrobatics, showing off masterful breath control and a rapid fire flow.”  Pitchfork

“‘It Don’t Matter’ puts Wifisfuneral over a raucous, Robb Bank$-produced beat, with keys straight out of a science fiction film. He raps about women, drugs, being fearless, and most importantly, ignoring people who talk too much. Never get too wrapped up in the naysayers and the time wasters; they’ll never help you be great. The song is visceral, it gets to point, and it should be played as loudly as possible.” – NOISEY

“The young rapper has a wide range of skills, from agile raps and bass-heavy tracks to dark and moody slow-burners, and his unpredictability is part of his appeal” Pigeons & Planes

The Song:

South Florida icon wifisfuneral is quickly proving he’s more than a “soundcloud rapper.” With rabid, dextrous flow switches and lyrics straight out of Nightmare on Elm Street, the 20-year-old emcee is continually showing the world his skill and versatility as a lyricist with “Pop.” Going off over a nightmarish Dementor of a beat produced by Cris Dinero, Ginseng, and wifisfuneral himself, wifi’s blend of technicality and horrorcore continue to impress. Painting vivid pictures, wifi intersperses lyrics like “Creep through your dreams with the weaponry,” with “devil on my soul/ new phone who dis,” mixing dark and ominous lyrics with his signature awareness and sense of humor. Released at 3am this morning, “Pop” is yet another bite-sized verbal battering ram from wisifuneral.

One of the more quietly successful artists in a burgeoning South Florida rap scene that also includes Kodak BlackXXXTentacion, and Ski Mask the Slump God, wifisfuneral mobilized his rabid cult following to make his latest album When Hell Falls debut at #17 on the iTunes Hip-Hop Chart. Carrying his momentum into SXSW, wifisfuneral performed seven showcases during a five day span and became the first artist to land a record deal at SXSW when he signed with Todd Moscowitz‘s newest venture, Alamo Records/Interscope. Since signing with Alamo, wwifisfuneral unleashed a barrage of high quality loose singles: the Joe Budden-cosignedJoeBuddenProbablyThinksICantRap 🙁, the slyly self-aware “lil jeff hardy >:-)“, “Run It Up,” which features an appearance from wifi’s labelmate Smokepurpp, the 808 Mafia-produced, Pigeons & Planes-premiered  2 Step,”currently on Spotify’s Most Necessary playlist, and the Twitter-promoted, 1.38 million-times streamed “wya?.”
Earlier this year, wifi performed at Rolling Loud festival in Miami, toured Europe with popular Taiwanese rapper Keith Ape, and then returned to the US for select dates of the Revenge Tour with XXXTentacion.
