“Sol remixed the hell out of this” – Okayplayer
The Song:
West Coast rapper Sol just released his remix of “Back 2 U” via Okayplayer, a tune originally written by the Seattle indie-pop duo SISTERS. Produced by Elan Wright and Nima Skeems a.k.a The Zillas, the remix remains true to the original recording, looping SISTER’s indomitable hook, synth-heavy melody, and bass rhythm even as the rapper adds his own unique flow. Sol takes the song to new heights as he raps about his undying passion for music, delivering thought-provoking rhymes like “The questions in life they got me trippin,” and “you ever wonder what it really mean, to live your dream, when cash rule everything, its bittersweet – chasing cream.”
Sol states, “This all started with SISTERS and I meeting at a festival we both played, me free-styling on the original version of ‘Back 2 U’ at their headlining Seattle show, then my producers and I officially remixing the song and now here we are!”
Just as Sol’s influences have expanded beyond music so have his aspirations. Whether it be through performing at major festivals such as Sasquatch!, Bumbershoot and the Capitol Hill Block Party; touring with artists including G-Eazy, Iamsu!, the Blue Scholars, Zion-I and Grieves; or public speaking he continues to find ways to connect with people. Recently Sol headlined his own West Coast tour and is working on his next major release slated to be completed in late 2015 / early 2016.

Rather than adopt an alter ego through a rapper alias, Sol decided early on to use his real name drawing from his life-long immersion in hip-hop culture and his multi-ethnic background—his mother was born and raised in Haiti and his father’s family emigrated from Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution. Because of his unique upbringing and heritage, Sol has adopted a deep sense of social responsibility as he continues to organize and play benefit concerts, helping raise thousands of dollars for causes such as relief efforts in Haiti and the Philippines.
Sol first captured an audience in 2012 with his Dear Friends EP trilogy. Following shortly after, he independently released the full-length album, Yours Truly, which quickly hit #1 in the U.S. and #4 worldwide on the iTunes Hip-Hop charts. Then, at what seemed to be a decisive moment in his burgeoning career, Sol did the unexpected; he left. As a cum laude graduate of the University of Washington, Sol was offered the prestigious Bonderman Honors Travel Fellowship as he simultaneously was receiving offers from record labels. Ultimately, he chose to keep blazing his own trail and embarked on the 10-month journey across the globe. While travelling, his music continued to flow as his new experiences only added to his already global perspective. Sol’s journey and his new inspiration deeply influenced his next project, the Eyes Open EP, which debuted in the Top 10 on the global iTunes Hip-Hop charts.
