“[Iamsu!] is making some of the catchiest and most pleasant music in all of rap right now.”Stereogum

“IamSu!’s confident and fluid rhymes shine.”Complex

“[Iamsu!] is very easy to like, and…he flashes an intensity to match.” – Pitchfork

“It truly seems that Iamsu! is incapable of making a bad song.” – VICE

The Song:
Iamsu!, one of the main architects responsible for the “New Bay” sound that’s dominated airwaves and playlists for the past few years, has set the stage for the next step in his career with the announcement of his upcoming mixtape and first nation-wide headlining tour, both titled Eyes On Me. “I called the project and tour ‘Eyes on Me’ because it’s time for me to define myself as an artist and solidify my spot in music,” explains Su, adding, “It’s a self-empowering statement.” Despite garnering acclaim from The New York Times and having his debut album included in Rolling Stone’s “40 Best Rap Albums of 2014,” it’s easy to see that Iamsu! wants more from himself and has set himself up for a very good year.
Eyes On Me has the same playful energy as Iamsu!’s early work, but is also darker and more aspirational. Armed with beats from DJ Mustard, Cal-A, his HBK brethren Jay Ant and P-Lo and himself, the mixtape swings from post-hyphy slap to spartan claps, providing a varied backdrop for Su to put it all on the table. FADER premiered the DJ Mustard-produced “Nothing Less” and said, “He sounds like Kanye; he’s out here engaging kids like J. Cole.” Explains Su, “The song is about progression. It sounds like being on the 90th floor in a high-rise building as you’re about to step into a meeting. The lyrics describe my aspirations as a artist and a man. I want to give kids bigger things to aspire to. I talk about owning companies and employing people, I want to be a boss and an artist like Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, or Master P.”

Su’s first headlining national tour includes 35 dates and will be supported by Rome Fortune and his HBK brethren Dave Steezy. From the beats to the lyrics Iamsu! tackles new levels of frustration and anxiety but with the cool confidence he’s known for. A slightly older, wiser, and more experienced Iamsu! has emerged and with his upcoming tour and ambitious mixtape, it is easy to see that 2015 will be a big year for him.

Iamsu! Background:

The past two years have been nothing short than amazing for Iamsu! In 2012, the 24-year-old popped up with a triple-threat performance on LoveRance’s “UP!,” which Su! produced, penned the hook for, and guested on with a scene-stealing verse. The song peaked at number two on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop chart, and in the midst of that success, Su! again delivered a fan-favorite verse on a big-time radio single, this time with E-40′s “Function.” Su! followed that success with a solo mixtape, KILT, and the critical acclaim came in droves, as the project was hailed by SPIN as their Rap Release Of The Week, with the outlet also naming Su! as one of their 5 Best New Artists for June ’12. Su!’s been plenty busy since – a west coast tour; a collaborative mixtape with Jay Ant; a standout collaboration with Wiz Khalifa, “Bout Me,” that appeared on Khalifa’s Cabin Fever 2 and will also show up on his sophomore album, O.N.I.F.C.  Iamsu! released mixtape $uzy 6 $peed, which was released exclusively through LiveMixtapes on November 10th. The tape was presented by Bay Area streetwear company Pink Dolphin, which released an exclusive t-shirt and hoody for the tape. In 2013, Iamsu! releaed Million Dollar Afro, a collaborative mixtape with Compton rapper Problem with whom he co-headlined a tour to support the release and a solo mixtape, KILT 2, in conjunction with LiveMixtapes, as well as the remastered deluxe iTunes, which charted on Billboard despite being available for free two weeks prior. More recently, Iamsu! along with the rest of his HBK Gang members, which include Sage the Gemini, P-Lo, Kool John, Jay Ant, Skip, Rossi and CJ, released a posse mixtape entitled Gang Forever and headlined a tour to support it as well. 2014 will see Iamsu! releasing his official debut album in May dubbed Sincerely Yours. He’s just released the first single, featuring 2 Chainz and Sage the Gemini, titled “Only That Real.

HBK Gang Background:

If you haven’t yet heard of the HBK Gang, it’s time to get acquainted. Producer and rapper Iamsu! is considered one more of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful young independent artists in rap with his hits with E-40 (“Function”), Wiz Khalifa (“Bout Me”), 2 Chainz  (“Livin'”), LoveRance (“Up”), and more. Producer P-Lo (of The Invasion) has the driving force behind the West Coast’s current, radio-dominating sound; he’s produced singles for Yo Gotti (“Act Right”), Wiz Khalifa (“‘Bout Me”), and more; Sage The Gemini has been equally prolific, with the above-mentioned single, “Gas Pedal” and now “Red Nose,” which was certified gold and is charting on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart. The rest of the crew includes members Skip, Rossi, CJ, Jay Ant, and Kool John, who were all featured on the recently released crew mixtape, Gang Forever.
