Singer, songwriter, producer Georgia Anne Muldrow & rapper, poet and producer Dudley Perkins a.k.a. Declaime unite under the alias of G&D. Besides handling production, the two are co-owners of their independent label SomeOthaShip Connect. For the past seven years, the couple has worked to perfect their craft as solo artists and as a team. Influential in building the LA underground rap scene, Perkins has worked with artists like The Lootpack, Madlib, Oh No, The Alkaholiks, Flying Lotus and Hudson Mohawke while Muldrow has worked with the likes of Erykah Badu, Robert Glasper, Mos Def, Bilal, Wajeed, Sa-Ra and many other independent acts. Noted for her unorthodox, indefinable, sample-free original production, Georgia has built a repertoire as one of today’s leading producers. G&D use their music to uplift and raise the vibration of consciousness.

Dudley and his seven siblings were raised by his single mother in Oxnard, California where, without a father figure, Dudley succumbed to drugs, alcohol and gangs. It was his passion for hip-hop music, break-dancing, comic books, and illustration kept him focused. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm. Realizing the war was against everything he believed, he rebelled and was eventually kicked out. Back home, Perkins connected with childhood friends Madlib, Oh No, and DJ Romes as well as Kankick and Wildchild to form The Lootpack. Their debut was quickly picked up by Peanut Butter Wolf who re-released it under his newly formed Stones Throw Records. Following the buzz, Perkins signed to German label Goodvibe, toured Europe, and was asked by Wolf to release another album, this time as a singer, and not as his rap moniker Declaime. The Madlib produced single “Flowers” received critical acclaim and led to subsequent Stone Throw releases Lil Light and Expressions as well as Ansoitisaid, Illmind Muzik, Conversations with Dudley, and Astormiscomin through various labels.

Born in Los Angeles to acclaimed jazz musician Ronald Muldrow, known as an instrumentalist with Eddie Harris, and Rickie Byars-Beckwith, leader of the famed Agape Choir and a noted spiritual teacher with the New Thought movement, Georgia was exposed to music at an early age. Upon graduating, Georgia moved to New York for The New School’s jazz program and met fellow students Robert Glasper and Bilal. Connecting with the likes of Wajeed led to her works on the critically acclaimed Platinum Pied Pipers’ Triple P album, but being on the NYC Subway underneath the World Trade Center during the mayhem of that tragic event led her to abandon New York for Los Angeles. Working with local producers such as Ras G, Dibiase & Sa-Ra grew her buzz which attracted major artists Erykah Badu & Mos Def.

Dudley heard Georgia’s voice and attended a show of hers, which led to her appearance on Perkin’s 2006 release Expressions for the track “Coming Home”. The two grew closer and discovered a kinship unlike any other. As Stones Throw’s first female signee, Georgia released her critically acclaimed debut solo EP Worthnothings, followed by Olesi. However, struggles with alcoholism clouded their work and eventually resulted in an incident leading to Dudley’s hospitalization. This prompted the conscious decision to better their health and lives by quitting drinking and changing their diets.

Currently residing in Las Vegas where they live, record, and raise their family, the strict vegans maintain a healthy lifestyle, strong family unit and connection to their Afrocentric roots, all of which is reflected in their music. The two cemented their bond with the natural birth of their son Nokware Perkins by mid-wife in 2007. Fed up with labels, the two decided to start their own and in 2009 inked a deal with leading independent distributor eOne Entertainment.  Their first release, compilation Ms. One Presents…, was followed by Perkin’s Holy Smokes and Muldrow’s solo Umsindo which included hit the “Roses” that Mos Def included on his Grammy-nominated The Ecstatic.  In 2011, Muldrow released experimental jazz instrumental album Ocotea under the alias Jyoti, a name given to her by spiritual mentor Alice Coltrane. The record was chosen by UK tastemaker Gilles Peterson as the Jazz Album Of The Year at his 2011 Worldwide Awards. Under his rap moniker Declaime, Dudley released FONK and Self Study.  In 2012, Muldrow released Seeds with Madlib handling production. The next release from the label is the 2nd G&D studio album entitled The Lighthouse set for release on May 21, 2013.
