The News:
Taylor Gang‘s Chevy Woods has long provided a voice for young people that have been subject to gritty, violent inner-city living. Woods just finished a new EP, titled The 48 Hunnid Project, that he’ll be releasing on August 7th. The project features DeJ Loaf on the lead single “All Said And Done,” in addition to guest vocals from OG Maco, Post Malone, Wiz Khalifa, and Rico Love. In terms of content, Chevy delves deep into his own history, providing an introspective take on his life before music.
With an extensive resume of mixtapes, including his popular Gangland series, Chevy Woods is stepping into a brighter spotlight with The 48 Hunnid Project being the Pittsburgh O.G.’s first official retail release, following only his “30 Deep” single that released last year. “This is, like, a couple of years in the making for this project,” Chevy told HipHopDX in a news announcement. “It took me a while to get the songs that I wanted, to record how I wanted, to get the right features, get the right production. It took me this long just to get everything that I wanted in place. I didn’t wanna give nobody, like, a mixtape-sounding project. I wanted to get out something that was a little bigger.”
The 48 Hunnid Project follows the surprise release of Chevy Woods’ five-song, Ricky P-produced SXSW I Love Texas EP as well as his DJ Holiday-hosted Gangland 3 mixtape, which released in January and included features from Taylor Gang cohorts Wiz Khalifa, Juicy J, and Ty Dolla $ign, in addition to production from Zaytoven and Sonny Digital. Chevy Woods is currently performing as a special guest on Wiz Khalifa’s Boys of the Zummer Tour, which you can view dates for here.

Chevy Woods has been building up momentum with his mixtapes Red Cup Music, The Cook Out, and the Gangland series, progressing his sound with each release. After years of writing and recording in his home studio, Chevy traded in his keyboard for cash to pay for studio time. In 2004, while recording at Pittsburgh’s I.D. Labs Studios, Chevy encountered Wiz Khalifa and the two instantly formed a bond. “Me and Wiz, we always had each other’s backs. Since we were both recording at I.D. Labs at the same time, we would hold each other down,” Chevy has explained. “Even if it was just picking up Wendy’s for the other one on our way to the studio.”
