Critical Praise for MerCure Dior:
“Listening to ‘Purple Night Wishes’ by MerCure Dior is one of those majestic moments where you KNOW you’re listening to someone with skill well beyond their current reach.” – VRSMAG
The Video:
19-year-old Maryland-based Cameroonian rapper MerCure Dior stands amid colorful, flashing lights and images from throwback television shows in the visual for “Ok, Straight,” from his forthcoming self-titled debut EP. The video debuts via EARMILK, who says, “he lets his rhymes and flow flow do the heavy-lifting.” The single has a consistent, powerful bassline paired with eery vocal effects and a resounding guitar riff, giving a wavey, echoey feel to the music. Combine this with the visual intensity of the music video and everything seems to fall into place. Through well crafted lyrics and a catchy chorus, the song dismisses notions of doubt and serves to inspire listeners to stay calm and focused through life’s adversities.
“OK, Straight” is the first single to be released off of MerCure Dior’s upcoming self-titled project. MerCure Dior (The EP) fully introduces the multi-cultural musician, who produces most of his own beats. At just three songs, the EP gives listeners a window into Dior’s extensive talent for creating music, which is driven by his passion for spirituality. With a self-made pathway, youthful exuberance, and divine message, MerCure Dior is stepping into hip-hop’s future.
Although MerCure Dior is Cameroonian by blood, he was born in Torino, Italy. He then immigrated to Maryland from Italy when he was only four years old. His musical abilities were evident from a very young age, and they helped him to find his niche in American culture. As a child, he played multiple instruments, wrote raps, and was producing his own beats by the age of nine. While his Cameroonian roots led to a strong influence of Bendskin (Cameroon’s unique blend of hip-hop and pop) in his music, his Italian past gave him an international perspective, enabling him to bridge cultural gaps and connect with audiences overseas.

MerCure Dior Background:
MerCure Dior was born of Cameroonian roots in Torino, Italy. At the age of four, his family relocated to the United States. His love for music allowed an easy transition into American culture, quickly teaching himself to play both guitar and piano as a child. However, he wasn’t fully satisified with the sound he was producing. At only nine years old he downloaded music producing software and began creating his own beats to rap over. Dior’s music was heavily influenced by his international heritage. Two of his uncles were credited with inspiring songs for James Brown and Michael Jackson and later helped to provide the Bendskin (Cameroon’s unique blend of pop and hip-hop) element in Dior’s music. Dior was further inspired by artists such as Tupac, Michael Jackson, and Kanye West, he continued to pursue his passion in music and dropped several mixtapes throughout middle school and high school. This assisted him in creating a solid fanbase known as The Disciple Life Ones, supporting the importance of spirituality that is present in Dior’s life and music. MerCure Dior’s self-titled EP will be released on August 5th, 2014.
