Video: Lil Durk – “Street Prayer”

The Rapper Embraces His “Neighborhood Hero” Role in the Poignant New Video from the Chart-Topping Just Cause Y’all Waited 2 Album

Critical Praise:

“[Just Cause Y’all Waited 2 is] a set that transforms Durk’s pain into one of his most emotionally potent tapes ever, and confirms what Chicago has known for ages: If you seek to understand the city in the 21st century, listen to Lil Durk.” – Pitchfork

“Unshackled from any kind of outline, Durk’s pen game shines. His rise was dotted with blood-soaked tales that summarized much of drill’s appeal: ground-level glimpses at Chicago’s South Side that colored in the outline offered by grim murder statistics.” – Pitchfork

“Lil Durk continues to be one of the most consistent rappers out.” – The FADER

“the rose that blossomed from the concrete of Chi-Town’s drill music scene” – Billboard

“His flexibility as a rapper creates enough space for his guest artist to shine, but his standalone cuts are evidence that he can carry the weight on his own.” – HYPEBEAST

The Video:

Reflecting harsh realities with emotion and melody, Lil Durk is the voice of the streets. Offering words of wisdom for those suffering in rough neighborhoods, Durk shares Street Prayer,” his new video. Produced by Cardo and DY, “Street Prayer” finds Durk opening up about his faith, as he recounts his past struggles and remembers the people he lost to street violence: “It be your dog, it be your dog/That sh*t so crazy what happened to Law/When the streets took Baby D, it had came with a flaw/Granny asked where Nuski at, it’s crushing my heart.” In the video, Durk takes time to pray, reflecting on his time spent in prison and resolving to make his neighbors’ lives better so they can avoid his fate. The Chicago native gives back to his community, pulling up and offering meals to his city’s homeless. Following last week’s Doin Too Much” (1.5 million views). “Street Prayer” is the latest video from Just Cause Y’all Made It 2, Durk’s new album, which debuted at #5 on the Billboard 200.

Released on May 8th, Just Cause Y’all Waited 2 is Durk’s most successful album to date, reaching #1 on Apple Music’s all-genre albums chart, and selling 57k album equivalent units in its first week (74.67 million on-demand streams). Packed with the well-drawn characters, single-line stories, and earworm-y melodies for which Durk is famous, Just Cause Y’all Waited 2 expertly balances the Only The Family CEO’s emotional rap ballads with snarling “no auto” missives, presenting a picture of a mature emcee in complete control of his vast talents.

The new album features popular tracks like the emotional anthem All Love (over 7 million streams in just a month of release), recent single Viral Moment,” all-star posse cut 3 Headed Goat ft. Lil Baby & Polo G, which peaked at #2 on Apple Music’s all-genre songs chart, and the fiery “no auto” Chiraq Demons ft. G Herbo. With an additional feature from GunnaJust Cause Y’all Waited 2 is available everywhere via Alamo Records.

In late April, Durk hosted a meal drive to feed the frontline workers at Chicago’s Rush Hospital, partnering with local restaurant PHLAVZ to drop off meals at the hospital and make over 100 more meals available for pickup later that night. Last Friday, Durk gave back to his adopted hometown of Atlanta, donating masks and meals to health workers and at-risk communities.

Stealing the show on recent collaborations with Roddy RicchLil Skies, and Lil Uzi Vert on the Hot 100-charting No Auto,” Durk has asserted his position on hip-hop’s A-List in 2020. He recently starred in a nationally-televised commercial for Nike’s Air Jordan, advertising the Lyrical Lemonade x Jordan Aerospace 720, Nike’s collab with Lyrical Lemonade founder Cole Bennett. Durk recently made his voice-over debut in the Lyrical Lemonade animated show, and appeared on Wild N Out with Chance The Rapper. The Alamo Records signee recently shared his Trap Symphony performance on Audiomack’s YouTube channel, performing renditions of recent smash No Auto Durk,” the R&B-flavored hit record Home Body,” and his 2013 breakout drill anthem Dis Ain’t What U Want.

The Background:

About Only The Family (OTF):
With a young and hungry roster of Chicago-born emcees, Lil Durk’s OTF label signees have made their intentions clear–they’re coming to take over the game. Most notable among the OTF roster is King Von, whose breakout hit “Crazy Story” earned more than 35 million views on YouTube and 14 million combined plays on Apple and Spotify. King Von is currently preparing his debut mixtape. Returning to the scene with his Dirty-Glove Bastard-premiered single “War Scars,” melodic mastermind Booka600released his mixtape Word To LA in June. The OTF crew showcased their talents in two label mixtapes released last year, Lil Durk Presents: Only The Family Involved Vol. 1, released last summer, and its sequel, released just before the New Year.
