The Album:

With a knack for telling compelling street tales and one of the smoothest voices in rap music, the prolific Trae Tha Truth represents for Houston wherever he goes. Delving into more personal territory for his ninth solo studio album, Trae returns with Tha Truth Pt. 3, a detailed portrait of the man behind the mic. An epic 18-track effort packed with street wisdom and rich storytelling, Tha Truth Pt. 3 is the second full-length this year from Trae, following Tapped In, a collaborative album with gritty Sacramento rapper Mozzy. Boasting an all-star list of guest appearances, and production from Watson The Great, Mook Beatz, Ayo The Producer, and others, Tha Truth Pt. 3 releases on July 21st.

Explains Trae, “Tha Truth Pt. 3 reveals more of my personal life. It’s gonna be one of my best albums to date. full of instant classics and timeless music. I get more personal on this album-I’m not going to reveal exactly how – you’ll have to experience it for yourself. Congregating 14 of his closest friends for an epic posse cut, Trae shares “I’m On 3.0,” an epic and dramatic exercise in pure rap music. The third edition of Trae’s star-studded “I’m On” series, which pays homage to Mark Morrison‘s classic “Return of the Mack” and features Morrison on each edition, the track boasts A-Listers like Snoop Dogg, T.I., and Rick Ross alongside quality up-and-comers like G-Eazy, D.R.A.M., Dave East, and Jay-Z’s new favorite rapper Tee Grizzley, established lyricists like Fabolous, Chamillionaire, Curren$y, Styles P, and Royce Da 5’9″. This edition of “I’m On,” produced by Cyfyre & Watson The Great, bends genres, layering the virtuosic guitar-stylings of Trae’s fellow Texan Gary Clark Jr. over the mellow, keyboard-laden beat. Spanning 8-minutes of straight bars and ethereal hooks, the Billboard-premiered “I’m On 3.0,” a highlight from Tha Truth Pt. 3, is another fantastic entry in a series that has boasted appearances from luminaries like Kendrick Lamar, J. There are three ways to write about Trae Tha Truth. One is to talk about his music, and that’s important because he is a rapper and making music is what he does. The other is to talk about him as a human, and that’s important, because he has done some truly monumental and impressive things. The third is to talk about the intersection of him as a rapper and him as a humanitarian, because that’s where Trae really belongs. His music is often inspired by the experiences of the disenfranchised, which is rooted in the broken roads of the ghetto. It’s driven by loss, by love, by loyalty, and by when one or two or all of those things are taken away or tested of those he cares about.

Trae Tha Truth is very modest, he never talks about his guest features he’d done or any of his new tapes (Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, T.I., Nas, etc.) or how he’d landed another MTV JAM Video of the Week or how he’d signed to T.I.’s label or any of the things people were watching him accomplish from afar. What you need to about Trae is he is a rapper, who has only ever viewed rap as another way for him to help people.
