The Song/EP:

Earlier this month, 19-year-old Italy-born, Maryland-based Cameroonian rapper/producer MerCure Diorreleased “Dreams Equal Secrets,” the second single from his self-titled EP, which is due to drop next Tuesday, August 5th. The video, premiering via Potholes In My Blog, is narrated by MerCure and serves as a metaphor for the hard work he puts into being successful. “The young man started his day bright and early, got breakfast, and immediately started training,” explains MerCure. “He spent long hours exercising just like I would spend long hours in the studio recording and producing.”

“I want this video to be a face-to-face introduction and a promise to my listeners that my music, brand, and what I stand for won’t ever be compromised as time progresses. I want them to feel inspired by the video and motivated to put in work for their own personal goals,” says MerCure. The multi-talented hip-hop artist’s passion for music became evident when he was a child, playing multiple instruments, writing raps, and producing his own music by the age of nine.

MerCure began building an internet following last year, partially because of the buzz generated by the music video for “Gush,” in which he rapped alongside A$AP Mob‘s own A$AP Ant. The music video for his self-produced track “V7NILL7” also garnered over 50 thousand views, creating a strong fan base which has shown further appreciation for his most recent release, “OK, Straight.”

MerCure’s self-titled EP will be released next Tuesday, August 5th. The three-song shows a promising glimpse of what the 19-year-old has to offer, sending a subtle message encouraging listeners to keep calm, work hard, and stay spiritual. The EP showcases varying styles in MerCure’s arsenal, ranging from a Golden Era flow on “Dreams Equal Secrets,” to futuristic production on “Ok, Straight,” and even hitting some high notes as he harmonizes on “Monday Night.”

MerCure Dior Background:

MerCure Dior was born of Cameroonian roots in Torino, Italy. At the age of four, his family relocated to the United States. His love for music allowed an easy transition into American culture, quickly teaching himself to play both guitar and piano as a child. However, he wasn’t fully satisified with the sound he was producing. At only nine years old he downloaded music producing software and began creating his own beats to rap over. Dior’s music was heavily influenced by his international heritage. Two of his uncles were credited with inspiring songs for James Brown and Michael Jackson and later helped to provide the Bendskin (Cameroon’s unique blend of pop and hip-hop) element in Dior’s music. Dior was further inspired by artists such as Tupac, Michael Jackson, and Kanye West, he continued to pursue his passion in music and dropped several mixtapes throughout middle school and high school. This assisted him in creating a solid fanbase known as The Disciple Life Ones, supporting the importance of spirituality that is present in Dior’s life and music. MerCure Dior’s self-titled EP will be released on August 5th, 2014.
