The Single:

“Tell me one more time, is it me or are you mine?” Fresh off the February 19th release of his 114 EP, the Pakistan-born, Toronto-based Lais graced the digital airwaves when Zane Lowe premiered his hypnotic new single “Mine Only” with a showcase on Apple Music’s Beats 1. “Mine Only” demonstrates the artist’s versatility, as Lais switches effortlessly between softly-sung come-ons and doubletime raps, his weapons in the psychological warfare depicted in the lyrics. Lais is no stranger to the Beats 1 spotlight. The artist got a huge co-sign last summer when Drake spun Lais’ track “For You” on the second episode of OVO Sound Radio, directly before he debuted “Charged Up” and monster hit “Hotline Bling.”

Lais carried the momentum gained by that exposure into 2016 with his new 114 EP, which finds the singer taking the Toronto’s distinctive deep R&B sound and topping it off with his own grim, luxurious vibes. Lais’114 EP is the artist’s most mature project yet, channeling his life experiences into intensely personal music. “114 is the home I moved to when I first moved to Canada from Virginia and this EP chronicles the lifestyle I lived out here and the things I experienced while I was at this address, from the relationships and parties to the drugs,” Lais explained to Complex, who premiered the EP last week. “I want this EP to be the end of this chapter, the end of this address and bringing through a new phase of my life.”

The EP chronicles the collapse of a relationship, and contains elements of Hip-Hop and R&B, but Lais prefers not to be restricted by genre labels. With production by CVRE and Vinnyx, who produced Kodak Black‘s “No Flockin’,” the 114 EP follows singles “Cocaine Rain,” “Moon & Stars 2” featuring Skizzy Mars, and The FADER-premiered “Just Us,” which have accumulated more than 900K plays on SoundCloud.
