Noisey Premieres First Official Single from Chicago Rapper/Visual Artist’s Forthcoming WAVES EP

04.10.2014

Chicago Style

Critical Praise for ProbCause:

“The rising rapper […] has continue to dominate his own lane, especially with his new project The Recipe Volume 2. Prob will have you locked in.” – XXL

“…just one conversation with Grimm is enough to make you realize that he’s deeper than even his his most serious lyrics suggest.” – Chicagoist.com

“Prob has his hand in two different fields, which makes both his art and his music that more intriguing.” – FakeShoreDrive.com

The Song:

Following the release of his “LSD” remix with Chance the Rapper and the Hood Internet, which has accumulated 140K plays in two weeks, rapper/visual artist ProbCause is ready to unleashed the first official single from his forthcoming WAVES EP. Premiered by Noisey, “Chicago Style” is an homage to the Windy City’s musical styles that have influenced him and his music. “The song encompasses the boom bap style of rap that I grew up listening,” he says, “but also teases the trap and house music sounds which Chicago has become the most famous for.”

There are two specific Chicago references in the song. About halfway through the first verse, you’ll here the ‘RUSH’ adlib, followed by ProbCause reciting Chicago rap legend Twista’s lyrics, “So turn the bass kick up and bump, and let the rhythm hit off the trunk,” from his 1997 hit “Adrenaline Rush.” Later, after the Fortified Sounds and Drew Manita produced track completely switches from the slow, dark beat to an up-tempo House-inspired production, ProbCause references D.A. Smart’s street rap hit “Walk With Me,” rapping “Put your left foot in front of your right foot, and walk with me.”

ProbCause is currently on tour with electro-pop group Cherub, as they recently performed for a sold-out crowd at New York City’s Music Hall of Williamsburg. The tour continues, traveling through Southern cities and states before coming to a close in Baton Rouge on May 3.

ProbCause Background:

We drew a line in the sand, and ProbCause crossed it. Over and over again. Eventually, we gave up on drawing lines and left that to him. Not only is ProbCause a prolific rapper, but a painter too. Between SXSW, North Coast, Costa Rica, and tour dates nation-wide, ProbCause is keeping busy. When he’s not on the road doing shows, he’s getting friendly with his paintbrush and inspiring fellow students at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. His sound jumps from hip hop, to electronic, to R & B, and then back to a classic boom-bap gritty rap sound. With stories that make you reminisce and a percussive delivery that highlights his versatile production, ProbCause is one of the most dynamic touring acts.
