“Amp Live delivers powerful sonic backdrops infusing the boom-bap ethos of independent hip hop with tinges of electronic music, mixed with live instrumentation, all rounded out with an edgy aesthetic.” – UndergroundHipHop
“Rainydaze Remixes is most effective when it is at its boldest, accelerating the dreary original of ‘All I Need’ into hard-nosed trip hop punctuated by stabbing brass, or transforming ‘Weird Fishes’ into a gentle drift downstream.” – The Guardian
Amp Live is enjoying a successful 2014 with the release of his latest solo album, Headphone Concerto, which dropped earlier this year along with the hit single “Penny Nickel Dime.” The track features vocals from Anya and Prof and was produced by Amp Live himself. In speaking with The Wall Street Journal who premiered the track on their Speakeasy Blog he explains “The track ‘Penny Nickel Dime’ is about how money can drastically change people,” adding that “I tried to create visuals that illustrated this concept in a really extreme way: A homeless woman comes across a treasure chest of money and gold, but it’s a fairytale gone very bad.” The song has been quite successful garnering over 13k plays on Soundcloud as well as over 11k views on YouTube. Amp Live also released a black and white live-in-studio video via Exclaim who state “The song taps into the jazzier side of Amp Live’s sound, as an electronic beat lays the foundation for organic instrumentation and Anya’s R&B-flavoured hip-hop singing.”
“Penny Nickel Dime” has gained widespread recognition as the new theme song for the upcoming season of the Celebrity Apprentice on NBC. Amp Live has created an innovative campaign for the track allowing users to submit their own remixes of the song. The contest is being run through Indaba Music and allows users to upload their remix and is then voted on by fans. The winning tracks will be featured on Amp Live’s official site in early 2015. A notable remix of “Penny Nickel Dime” was produced by Minnesota and premiered on EARMILK who claim “When two talented forces collide, you know sparks are bound to fly.”
Amp Live is known for his innovative productions in multiple genres including hip-hop, electro, rock and dance music among others. He gained global exposure with the release of his initially unauthorized release of Rainydayz Remixes, a remix album of Radiohead’s In Rainbows. Most recently Amp Live dropped Headphone Concerto (Remix Version) a remix edition of his latest album, Headphone Concerto, and features notable remixes of singles from the album. Amp Live also announced some upcoming live performances with tickets available here.
