Note from Michelle:
Every so often we’ll have an intern who raps which makes me happy because I know that they’re applying what they’re learning and experiencing directly to their own careers. Max Gertler, a 3rd year Northeastern University student, who grew up within walking distance of our offices, has been fulfilling his 6-month long “Co-Op” internship program with Audible Treats. Here’s his project.

Max Gertler is just a kid trying to make his dreams come true through music. A promising young rapper/producer and a member of the Delivery Boys Collective, Max takes a major step towards realizing his potential with Paper Route EP, his second project of 2016. The follow-up to July’s DI$NEY, Paper Route is an impressively cohesive effort, with production from Max and other members of the D-Boys, forging a style that sits between Mac Miller’s more beat-driven work and Lil Uzi Vert’s auto-tuned melodicism. Featuring previously released tracks including “Grammys,” (32,000 plays on Soundcloud), and “27” (16,000 plays), Paper Route is a statement of purpose for Max and a sign of great things to come.
Explains Max, “DI$NEY was me just putting all of my goals and aspirations into the music. It was where I wanted to be. Paper Route is sort of like my game plan. I wanted the whole EP to feel super bi-polar, meaning very fast, dramatic changes in mood. I wanted to get across the ups and downs of trying to make it in the music industry, but in a realistic way. The track I am most proud of is probably “27.” I just think that song comes across as the most honest and heartfelt. Plus, it really keeps you on edge throughout the whole listen. I’m not even joking when I say the vast majority of the music I listen to is my own. I have a really short attention span, so I want to find a new song I love every day. At a certain point I decided I didn’t feel like waiting for other people to make that music for me, so I started doing it myself. I make a new song pretty much every single day, mostly because I want new shit to listen to.”
