Podcast: Audible Treats Hip-Hop Podcast 163
This week’s Audible Treats Hip-Hop Podcast blasts off with A-Plus’ treatment of the Deltron 3030 track “Melding of the Minds,” featuring Zach de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine. The track constantly evolves as A-Plus mixes things up with a new beat for each verse, paralleled with the extra-terrestrial themes of the music. Next up, Well$ follows with his new single, “An Awfully Rude Reintroduction.” The track samples the infamous Kanye West interruption speech during Taylor Swift’s award acceptance at the 2009 VMAs. “An Awfully Rude Reintroduction” is the first release in the highly anticipated Week of Well$, where he dropped a new single or video everyday during the first week of September. This track is also the sequel to his 2012 hit, “An Awfully Rude Introduction.” Following Well$, we have emcee, A-1, with his first release since his feature on Ryan Hemsworth’s remix of “Summertime Sadness” and his 2012 project, The Thurl Tape. The new single, “Parasail,” features production team Louis Futon and presents a unique atmosphere for hip-hop fans. A-1 presents metaphor of parasailing by stating “…Parasailing would be living above the standard, living beyond what’s expected of you based on social norms,” in an effort to evade the niche hip-hop themes of money, women and possessions. Combined with a constant drum rattling and strong beat, A-1 and Louis Futon deliver their statement, boldly. After A-1, the podcast features Luke-O of Moola Gang Ca$h Cow$, with the fourth single off his Lacoste Bo$$ mixtape, which releases 9/9. The rapper continues to pay respect to his love of Lacoste clothing in the new single, “Cows & Crocodiles / Crocodile Rock,” where he argues that he reps Lacoste like no other. The track samples Earth, Wind and Fire, with the horns paralleling the beat for the first half of the song. The second half samples Elton John’s, “Crocodile Rock,” to further Luke-O’s assertion that he is the “Lacoste Bo$$.” MerCure Dior concludes the podcast with his latest single release, “Sleeping in Italy.” The single follows the release of his Self-titled EP, which dropped late in August. After finally returning home to Italy after a 15 year absence, Dior wrote the track inspired by his travels and his reconnection with his Italian heritage. MerCure Dior accompanies his lyrical inspirations with strong drum beats and a relaxed, smooth beat. Stay tuned for future podcasts.
