Sturdyyoungin Teams With Good Friend Ohthatsmizz for “Speed It Up” Single
Following Up Viral Hit “Trippin” and Recent Single “Respectfully,” the 19-Year-Old Rapper Prepares to Serve Up More Dance Rap Bangers On Rookie Of The Year. His Upcoming Debut EP
The Song:
Tearing up Philly with his hyperactively danceable viral hits, Sturdyyoungin is ready to level up. Continuing to stake his claim as one of the game’s most exciting risers, the 19-year-old rapper teams up once again with his close friend Ohthatsmizz for “Speed It Up.” “Speed It Up” rides a spare, bass-heavy beat, with DJ scratches and single-note keyboard stabs mixed in, allowing Sturdy and Mizz to fill space with their energetic flows. Sturdy rocks a steady flow, dipping into the occasional sing-song melody as he vows to never take his foot off the gas pedal: “My life is changin’, that’s amazin’, I gotta keep it up,” he vows. Meanwhile, Mizz adds his signature comic flair, shooting his shot at any baddie in his vicinity: “You got a boyfriend but I don’t give a f*ck,” he croons. The follow-up to the frenetic single “Respectfully,” “Speed It Up” will appear on Rookie Of The Year, Sturdyyoungin’s upcoming debut EP, out later this year.
Sturdy spent the early part of 2025 making his Rookie Of The Year case with viral moments and earworm hits. In February, Sturdy, Mizz, and NYC rapper ZeddyWill connected for “Trippin’,” a joyful anthem that sampled Fergie‘s 2007 hit “Clumsy.” The song arrived with a music video that featured a cameo appearance from Fergie herself, earning attention from Billboard and racking up over 6.3 million views on YouTube. With over 11 million streams across platforms, “Trippin” was adopted by members of the Philadelphia Eagles as an anthem during their playoff run and eventual Super Bowl win–Sturdy and Mizz went to New Orleans to watch the Birds win and party with their fellow fans.
Sturdyyoungin started his run of viral hits with his appearance on Ohthatsmizz’s “BUMBAA,” a kinetic party anthem that went viral on TikTok (634k creations) and YouTube (5+ million views on the static image audio and music video combined), catching the attention of notables like Jayda Wayda and LaLa Anthony, among others. Sturdy and Mizz used the song to show off their performance skills with memorable appearances on In The Cut (5 million views) and On The Radar, and started a viral “open verse challenge” for the song, receiving thousands of videos in response. “BUMBAA” has racked up more than 20 million streams to date. Sturdy appeared alongside Mizz, Cash Cobain, Jenn Carter, and Bay Swag on the brand new “BUMBAA REMIX.”

The Background:
A popular figure in Philadelphia since high school, Sturdyyoungin built a following on social media by starting dance challenges to Philly club rap bangers, rocking freestyles, and just by being himself. While he first gained fame as a content creator, Sturdyyoungin pursued his music dream, making his own music on Bandlab and eventually joining up with legendary Philly dance rap crew 2Humpy, which also featured luminaries like 2Rare, Bril, and frequent rap partner Ohthatsmizz. After 2Humpy broke up, Sturdy started to make waves on his own, and often teamed up with Ohthatsmizz to release red hot singles like “How It Goes” (also featuring Bril), racking up over 1.3 million streams on Spotify.
