A reliable purveyor of soulful, hooky, and heartfelt music, SonReal connects with his listeners on a deep emotional level. Vancouver’s SonReal connected with the legendary producer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Charlie Handsome (Kanye West, Post Malone) for “My Friend,” which Zane Lowe described as “A piece of music that had to be made…it’s one of those songs that become things that you add to your playlist or collection and stay with you for the rest of your life.” Premiered by PAPER Magazine, SonReal shares a new acoustic video featuring SonReal and Babyface performing a stripped down arrangement of the song, with Babyface on guitar. An intimate and moving performance, the video showcases the chemistry between the singer and producer and shines a spotlight on SonReal’s considerable vocal talent. My Friend” is the follow up single to the journeyman’s debut album, One Long Dream, which was executive produced by Rahki and features production from DJ Khalil.
Born in a small town in rural British Columbia, SonReal is one of the most acclaimed and popular rising stars in Canada, earning six Juno Awards nominations and ten nominations, garnering a win at the MuchMusic Video Awards, and performing in front of 10 million viewers at the opening ceremony for the Canadian Football League’s Grey Cup, one of Canada’s biggest sporting events, alongside Shania Twain.
