The Florida Rapper Announces Next Album Beautiful Havoc, Out 10/30 via 300 Ent.
The “Mean” Video Continues the Storyline From $NOT & Cole Bennett’s Recent Clip for “Revenge”
Critical Praise:
“He’s well on his way to being one of the next independent rappers to make a mainstream splash… $NOT’s got a very particular kind of charisma, and one single at a time, everything’s clicking.” – Pigeons & Planes
“With Billie Eilish and ‘Euphoria’ co-signs, rapper $not is a Gen Z star in making” – Los Angeles Times
“Snot — stylized $not — is a quintessential South Florida SoundCloud rapper, brimming with the sarcastic, devil-may-care attitude of his peers with perhaps a bit more polish.” – UPROXX
“$NOT’s ‘Pressure’ Reveals a Changing Tide in Hip Hop…His nonchalant flow and reserved style does not diminish his dark, heavy lyrics and straight-to-it delivery.” – Teen Vogue
“The 22-year-old rapper has become a Gen-Z superstar—from boasting millions of streams on SoundCloud, being featured on HBO’s hit series Euphoria, receiving shoutouts from Billie Eilish and Drake (Bell), to becoming a staple on TikTok and Triller, you can find the rapper just about everywhere. With a flow that matches his calm demeanor, $not intertwines his deadpan delivery with themes of humor, love and sadness, all over ethereal bass-ladened beats to produce a sound that has garnered him widespread traction” – OFFICE Mag
The Video:
Quickly becoming one of his generation’s most crucial voices, $NOT specializes in anti-social bangers with blunt lyricism and hummable hooks. Teaming up once again with Cole Bennett, $NOT releases “Mean,” his latest music video. Riding a melodic backing track (produced by Woodpecker) that evokes the modal melodies, skronking woodwinds, and lonesome whistles of spaghetti western soundtracks, $NOT takes the time to explain why ladies are drawn to a heartless assassin like him: “Diamonds on my neck and it’s lemonade/N****s see him through the window, Escalade.” The song features a guest verse from Flo Milli, the rap game Regina George, who delivers mean girl rhymes in an instantly memorable 8-bar verse: “Look how you hatin’ on a b*tch and you my momma age!”
Continuing the storyline from $NOT’s previous Cole Bennett collaboration “Revenge“ (4 million views), the video for “Mean” switches up the dominant color scheme from yellow to red, signaling $NOT’s transformation from sensitive loner to ice cold rapper. “Mean” finds $NOT on the run from the cops, after shooting the bully from the “Revenge” video, as he embraces his newfound power and teams up with Flo Milli to turn the tables on a disrespectful bully. “Mean” marks the first time that Cole Bennett has teamed up with an artist for back-to-back videos and used a continuous storyline.
“Mean” is the latest single from Beautiful Havoc, $NOT’s upcoming album. The follow-up to his March 2020 album – TRAGEDY +, which featured hits like “Beretta” ft. wifisfuneral (23 million Spotify streams) and “Moon & Stars” ft. Maggie Lindemann (40 million Spotify streams), Beautiful Havoc digs deep into the 22-year-old rapper’s misanthropy, interrogating how and why he retreats into his tightly-wrapped hoodie. The album offers a bright and diverse sonic palette, allowing $NOT to showcase his elite melodic instincts and provide a contrast to his dark, self-hating lyrics. Beautiful Havoc releases on October 30th via 300 Ent.
Influenced by a long line of idiosyncratic rap outsiders, $NOT earned a massive following with his relatable, humorous, and well-crafted rap songs. Born in Brooklyn before moving to Florida as a teenager, $NOT made his name on SoundCloud, keeping his fans satisfied with consistent drops until striking gold with “GOSHA,“ which racked up 22 million SoundCloud streams and recently surpassed 105 million streams on Spotify.
Known for wearing his signature hoodie, which he wears wrapped tight around his face, $NOT has earned co-signs from the likes of Billie Eilish, and his song “Billy Boy” appeared in an episode of HBO’s Euphoria. $NOT completed a successful tour in Q1 2020, selling out venues across the country. Most recently, $NOT shared “Can You Help Me,“ a defiant track that calls out racism and supports the Black Lives Matter movement.
