“Needless to say, dude’s a visionary.” – XXL

“Sir Michael Rocks is ready to take over.” – Complex

The Video:

In the “KillSwitch” video, which premieres via Complex, fans will quickly notice that Sir Micheal Rocks has a scar over his eye – this is in reference to video games like Final Fantsay 8 and the character Kakashi from Naruto. As for the song, it features Miami rappers Pouya and Robb Bank$. “Pouya and Robb started writing a back and forth verse and immediately I started writing the hook excitedly,” Sir Michael explains. “All I could think of when writing this song was the live show and how hype this shit would be. The hook was born in that moment. Complete with Kill Bill references and idle threats, this is a perfect turn up for 2015 and beyond.”

In addition to the video debut, Complex announced forthcoming Midwest and West Coast tour dates for Rocks. The Midwest bills include Bank$ and Pouya, as well as Shorty K, while the West Coast dates include singer Buddy, who’s featured on Rocks’ “One Time,” as an opener. This tour follows the release of Rocks’ solo debut album, Banco, which dropped late last month, with immediate success, debuting at #1 album on Billboard‘s Heatseekers chart, #21 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, and #13 on Rap Albums. The AV Club premiered the album and witnessed a quick climb to #1 on iTunes’ hip-hop charts. “Fuck SeaWorld,” a hit from the record has elicited immense media attention, especially through Sir Michael Rocks’ featured interview with MTV, which highlights Rocks sneaking into an aquarium to record the video.

Banco features artists Too $hort, Mac Miller, Twista, Iamsu, Trinidad James, Casey Veggies, Robb Bank$, Pouya, Chuck Inglish, and includes some production by DJ Mustard. Rocks has announced plans to reunite with Chuck Inglish via Twitter, to release Shark Week, the first album from The Cool Kids since 2011’s When Fish Ride Bicycles. Be sure to catch Sir Michael Rocks, along with Robb Bank$ and Pouya on his fall tour, see dates below.

Sir Michael Rocks Background:

Sir Michael Rocks has always been a little ahead of his time, a little more original than his peers, a little bit more creative. As a teenager, he started making music under the name Mikey Rocks as one half of groundbreaking duo The Cool Kids. Formed over the Internet and powered by a strong grassroots fanbase online, the group helped redefine the image of rap for the Internet era with an effortlessly cool throwback style and an iconic, laid-back fashion sense. Rechristening himself as Sir Michael Rocks in 2011, the restlessly creative artist, now based in Miami after time spent in Chicago and LA, has been pushing the boundaries of rap originality even further in recent years with a string of popular, critically acclaimed mixtapes. His debut solo album, Banco, is available now.
