Few rappers in the game can go bar-for-bar with ShooterGang Kony, the 20-year-old Sacramento rising star, but he found three in his backyard and put them all on the same track. Demonstrating the high level of talent in the Bay Area/NorCal rap scene, Kony shares “Charlie 2,“ his new video, premiered by HYPEBEAST. An old-fashioned posse cut that doesn’t need a hook to stick in your head, “Charlie 2” features top-level verses from Nef The Pharaoh (“And this big chop that I got, it’ll rip arms/At this rate, Jake, you ain’t safe, you need State Farms”), DaBoii of SOB X RBE (” I know a lot of shit but never knowin’ no better”), and Mike Sherm (“First things first, last but not least/Thought he couldn’t get touched but I got reach”). In the video, the four rappers kick back in the studio, taking turns trying to wow each other with their best bars. “Charlie 2” remixes “Charlie,” Kony’s recent single that earned praise in Pitchfork and Stereogum.
