Brooklyn’s Own Sheff G Announces One And Only Album, Arriving on 5/15 via Winners Circle/EMPIRE
The Upcoming Mixtape Hosts the Buzzing Single “Moody” and Features Multiple Appearances from Sleepy Hallow
Critical Praise:
“When Flatbush drill rapper Sheff G is at the peak of his powers, his songs are exhilarating…His raps feel like wind sprints. As the vocal sample wails behind him, he bobs and weaves like a boxer poised to strike. “Tonight” is short, to the point, and highly effective: You cross Sheff G at great personal cost.” – Pitchfork
“Sheff G made Drill the sound of Brooklyn” – Pitchfork
“Sheff G Helped Define the Brooklyn Drill Sound—Now He’s Pushing It Forward” – Complex
“Sheff G has been showing no signs of slowing down.” – HYPEBEAST
The Announcement:
With a massive, passionate following in the Five Boroughs, Sheff G is a leading light of the flourishing Brooklyn rap scene. Plotting his next city-conquering move, Sheff announces One And Only, his upcoming debut album. Seamlessly switching between sinister slappers and heartfelt ballads, Sheff’s new project shows impressive emotional range and blunt honesty, touching on the harsh realities of street life and the drive to provide for his family and community. The album boasts varied production from Great John, whose rumbling low end and guitar mastery provide perfect launching pads for Sheff to spin his nimble flows and lilting melodies into memorable hooks. With multiple appearances from Sheff’s frequent rhyme partner Sleepy Hallow, One And Only arrives on May 15th via Winners Circle/EMPIRE.
One And Only plays host to “Moody,” Sheff’s recent single, which has quickly become one of his most popular songs to date. Produced by Great John, the new single finds Sheff stunting on latecomers trying to hop on the Brooklyn drill wave–a style the Flatbush native has long evolved past: “My old shit sound like they new shit/I bet you already knew this.” Since its release in early April, “Moody” racked up over 7 million streams across platforms–including 3.3 million on its raucous music video–and garnered praise from Pitchfork, HYPEBEAST, and more.
In the years since bursting on the scene with the now-classic “No Suburban” single, Sheff G has emerged as one of the East Coast’s most vital young artists. The young rapper channeled heroes like Chief Keef and G Herbo and helped pioneer a drill movement in his home borough of Brooklyn, a scene that spawned rappers like Fivio Foreign and the late Pop Smoke. Even as that scene ascended in national recognition, Sheff was eager to move onto new sounds, sharing his debut mixtape The Unluccy Luccy Kid, featuring hit singles like “We Getting Money” and “Flows,” expanding his sonic palette to include organic instrumentation and gentle melody. The tape earned over 70 million streams across platforms since its September release. In February, the 21-year-old rapper co-headlined a Pitchfork-covered concert at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre, and more recently, he sat down with Complex for an interview as part as their wide-ranging survey of Brooklyn drill.
Stay tuned for much more from Sheff G in the coming days. One And Only is currently available for pre-order.
