Project: Rod Wave – Ghetto Gospel
The Alamo Records Signee Shares His Second Project of 2019, Flies High in the Video for Highlight Song “Sky Priority”
Critical Praise:
“Rod Wave Sings Like an Angel and Raps Like a Demon” – Rolling Stone
“The 19-year-old can rap at a brisk pace like an ATL rapper, hit a falsetto like a R&B singer, and often digs deep to unleash a gravelly voice that sounds like he’s the lead in a country rock band…he already possesses one of the best voices in the South.” – Pitchfork
“If you’re not familiar with the sounds of Rod Wave, he’s certainly one of the most talented acts to come out of Florida in some time.” – The Modern Life Mag
“One of Florida’s finest musicians” – ELEVATOR
The Announcement + Video:
Blessed with a special singing voice, and the knowledge of how best to use it, Florida’s Rod Wave is taking his own path to the top of the game. Coming through with a soulful set of Southern sing-raps, Rod Wave levels up with Ghetto Gospel, his new project. With heavy use of organic instrumentation, including snaking electric guitars and warm organ swells, Ghetto Gospel gives a proper title to Rod’s spiritual and nakedly-emotional blend of rap music, defined by Rod’s unique singing ability, able to switch from a bluesy croon to rapid-fire triplets at a moments notice. Featuring the popular new single “Cuban Links,” which features an appearance from Ghetto Gospel executive producer Kevin Gates, and the “Heart On Ice” (Remix), which features an appearance from Lil Durk and has over 3 million streams across platforms, Ghetto Gospel is available everywhere via Alamo Records.
To accompany the release of Ghetto Gospel, Rod shares the video for “Sky Priority,” the project’s opening track. A sweetly-sung track produced by FJ and Mook On The Beat, “Sky Priority” illustrates the many ways Rod’s life has changed since he started making music, growing from a troubled teenager stuck in the mud, to an acclaimed artist touring the globe: “I ain’t been getting no sleep, I been running the streets/I ain’t been home in two weeks, I been looking for peace/California on the beach, I’m low-key in the jeep.” The video is an action-packed travelogue, stringing together behind-the-scenes clips of Rod’s life opening for Kevin Gates on the “I’m Him Tour,” featuring clips of Rod performing for adoring fans, returning home to see his friends, and buying some shiny new jewelry.
Also featuring support from YK Osiris and SDot Fresh, Rod is currently traveling the country with Kevin Gates on the 33-date nationwide “I’m Him Tour.” The tour recently stopped in New York (Terminal 5) and makes its way to Los Angeles on November 27th (The Novo). Last week, Rod Wave shared the California-set video for “Close Enough to Hurt,” which earned over 1 million views on YouTube in less than one week. Earning more than 8.4 million on-demand catalog streams per week, Rod Wave looks to solidify his growing fanbase with Ghetto Gospel, and bring his inspirational take on Southern Rap to the masses.
