Rod Wave Reconciles His Past and Present in the Moving “PTSD” Video
Video: Rod Wave – “PTSD”
The Alamo Records Signee Documents Footage From the “Heart On Ice Tour” in the Titular Video from the St. Petersburg, FL Native’s Recent PTSD Mixtape
“The 19-year-old can rap at a brisk pace like an ATL rapper, hit a falsetto like a R&B singer, and often digs deep to unleash a gravelly voice that sounds like he’s the lead in a country rock band…he already possesses one of the best voices in the South.” – Pitchfork
“If you’re not familiar with the sounds of Rod Wave, he’s certainly one of the most talented acts to come out of Florida in some time.” – The Modern Life Mag
“One of Florida’s finest musicians” – ELEVATOR
Able to switch on a dime from doubletime raps to angelic falsettos to bluesy expressionism, Florida’s Rod Wave is one of the most talented vocalists in rap. Pledging allegiance to his community of St. Petersburg, Rod shares “PTSD,” his new slice-of-life music video. Defined by a plaintive piano melody from producer MacOnDaTrackk, “PTSD” finds Rod exploring the outsized affect that grief and pain can have on a psyche, before ultimately accepting its role in shaping his personality and his artistry: “It’s a lot of sh!t left me scarred/But pain makes us who we are.” In the video, Rod returns to his home neighborhood, posing with adoring fans, giving out pizzas to hungry youths, and flashing back to his days on his high school basketball team. The video also captures standout moments from Rod’s “Heart On Ice Tour,” currently making its way through cities in the South. “PTSD” is the title track from Rod’s recent PTSD mixtape, released in June.
PTSD collects Rod’s soulful, introspective, and hard-hitting recent singles, including his mission statement “Popular Loner” (4.4 million YouTube views and a recent Genius Verified video), the guitar-speckled recounting of his rise “Tru Story,” and the brilliantly-sung “Hard Times” (1.4 million streams on its official YouTube audio). The new mixtape shows Rod’s romantic side the devotional love song “Paint The Sky Red,“ reaches a celebratory peak with “Calabasas,” which features an appearance from rap legend E-40, and shows a great deal of self-awareness on the Pitchfork-approved “Heart On Ice.“ With production from Go Grizzly, TNT, D Major, Yung Tago, and more, PTSD is available everywhere via Alamo Records.
Catch Rod Wave on the “Heart On Ice Tour,” which tours several cities around Florida and Georgia before bouncing to the West Coast in August, including a date in Los Angeles on August 23rd at Catch One.
