Praised by Pitchfork as “one of the best voices in the South,” rhymer Rod Wave has a future brighter than the Florida sun. Ruminating over minor-key guitars and syncopated trap drums, Rod Wave declares his undying love on “Paint The Sky Red,” his latest single. Alternating a smooth croon with a bluesy rasp, Rod uses his powerful pipes to proclaim endless devotion for the woman in his life, thanking her for bringing out the best in him and sticking by him through his trials and his rise to fame: “It’s a cold, cold world/It’s a wild, wild life/But long as I got you girl, I’m alright.” In the video, directed by Shooters Touch Films, Rod offers images of his jet-setting lifestyle, heading to NYC and South Beach and back, all the while keeping a place in his life for his love. “Paint The Sky Red,” is the latest single from PTSD, his upcoming mixtape, following the West Coast-set “Calabasas,” which features E-40.
