Coming out of Naples, FL with a fresh take on guitar pop, ripmattblack is a budding star. Taking a metaphorical trip to the California desert with his girlfriend, Matt Black shares “You Love It!,“ his charming new video single. Produced by in-demand duo Take a Daytrip, “You Love It!” is a punchy, guitar-driven account of Matt’s tumultuous and passionate relationship, his honeyed auto-tune detailing all the ways they’re mismatched–and why they can’t leave each other alone: “And I like my coffee sweet/She like her cappuccino black.” In the video, Matt and his bae take a (day)trip out to the desert, where his lover shoots him in the heart, drags him with her car, and leaves him for dead–the violent imagery illustrates the how the couple’s toxic rapport feeds their unhealthy passion. “You Love It!” is the latest single from Matt Black’s upcoming debut EP, produced entirely by Take a Daytrip, coming later this year via Alamo Records.

One of the leading lights of a rising Southwest Florida scene, along with his close friend Dominic Fike, Matt Black is a crafty songwriter, equally influenced by hip-hop and modern guitar pop. Citing artists like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lil Wayne, Lil Peep, and Blink 182 as inspirations, the 24-year-old artist started to gain traction with genre-blending tracks like “Winnebago,“ featuring ALX Fike (Dominic’s brother), earning placements in publications like ELEVATOR and Lyrical Lemonade. In 2019, Matt dropped the Take A Daytrip-produced “Sore Loser,” described by Lyrical Lemonade as an “intoxicating, pop-centric offering,” which racked up over 830k streams on Spotify and 150k views on YouTube, and was included on Spotify’s Teardrop playlist (566k followers).
