Blessed with golden pipes and a passion for fashion, 19-year-old phenom Rich Amiri is already one of rap music’s most distinctive vocalists. Flexing his muscular sense of melody on his most robust project to date, the Boston-born artist shares GHETTO FABULOUS. Spanning 14 tracks, the new project from the Internet Money Records signee features some of the famed collective’s most luxurious production to date–Rio Leyva takes the helm behind boards, with credits on 12 of the project’s 14 tracks, welcoming contributions from IM fellows like founder Taz Taylor, Census, and ThankYouWill, plus unaffiliated associates like Zuko and maxvon. Shouldering the load with no features necessary, Amiri takes advantage of the room-enveloping production, his bellowing bass cutting through the cavernous atmosphere with commanding authority and unpredictable melodics.

“With GHETTO FABULOUS, I’m highlighting the lifestyle of showy but superficial glamour and luxury that is usually adopted by people in an urban ghetto,” explains Rich Amiri. “This lifestyle is something I experienced throughout my life and wanted to showcase it through this album.”

The new mixtape is home to the breakout single “AIN’T NOTHING,” which has generated over 7 million streams to date across platforms, the recent hit “ONE CALL” (over 1.7 million streams across in just two weeks), and chaotically triumphant single “CODEINE CRAZY.” GHETTO FABULOUS finds the young rapper embracing the full power of his basso vocals. Amiri has the commanding charisma of an army general, harnessing militaristic snares on the opening “HANDOUTS,” and saluting his soldiers in the high-octane “TROOPS INTERLUDE.” The SoundCloud sensation embraces hedonism on standout track “Sticks On Ready,” a tape highlight, as he floats above synth fanfares with soaring vocal runs. 2023 has been a busy year for Rich Amiri. Earlier this year, Rich Amiri announced his signing to Internet Money Records, making his longstanding relationship with the artist-producer collective official. Shortly afterward, Amiri dropped EVOLUTION, entirely produced by Internet Money, featuring singles like “Poppin” ft. Lil Tecca and “Salty.” The 12-track project was his biggest step yet in his rise from SoundCloud to nascent stardom. In 2021, he released his hit “Never Fail,” which recently surpassed 3 million streams on SoundCloud, which sparked a series of underground hits. Last year, the rapper shared his debut EP For The Better, which featured guest spots from Summrs, jaydes, and others.

On November 17th, Rich Amiri hosts a GHETTO FABULOUS listening party at Apt 200 in Los Angeles. Amiri returns to L.A. in March, when he takes the stage at Rolling Loud California 2024 on Sunday March 17th.

The Background:

Hypnotic and honeyed, Rich Amiri’s voice is like little else in rap. Having only recently started taking music seriously, his syrupy melodies have already helped him stand out from his peers in plugg&B–a slurry blend of soul and cloud rap that’s been taking over the internet. Amiri’s humble and nonchalant about his gifts but that hasn’t stopped him from becoming one of his scene’s most free-associative songwriters. He switches lanes with grace, as evidenced by some of the highlights from his recent EP Chase. Tracks like “J10” are low-key and sensitive, while “Never Fail” allows him room to rage, showing off his many sides in quick succession. Though the 18-year-old hails from Boston, he’s a child of the internet who’s been uploading bedroom recordings to SoundCloud since 2020. Like many Gen Z stars, Amiri is something of a one-man army.
