The Mixtape:

Rey Res has started the new year off in a big way, landing the cover of the San Jose Metro. In the piece Rey speaks about his 15 year career and the sacrifices he’s made to arguably become the biggest rapper from San Jose. With a cover story under his belt ,Rey is ready to release his album, Heart of the City, which the Metro states, “is the best album Rey has ever made-a culmination of all he’s learned and all the connections he’s accumulated over the past decade and a half. It’s more refined, calculated and thoughtful than his past work.”

However, before that he’s satiating fans with The Mixtape Before the Album, premiered by AllHipHop.Clocking in at 13-tracks, The Mixtape Before the Album, sees Rey rapping over original production from Myself, DJ Dahi, Nima Fadavi and Chexmex with features from Equipto, Bored Stiff, J. Lately, Bambu, Prometheus Brown (Blue Scholars) and A-1TMBTA isn’t your regular throwaway mixtape, with AllHipHop labeling it “a collection of self-reflective narratives, serving as a quick guide to what makes Rey one of the most personable young rappers in the game.” Whether Rey is rapping over Jay-Z’s “Somewhereinamerica” or spitting over original production from DJ Dahi whose produced for Drake and Kendrick Lamar, Rey keeps his music relatable.TMBTA is the perfect precursor to Heart of the City.

Rey Res has released a slew of music in the past few months as he gears up for his most complex and personal album to date. On the Dru Down-sampling “Let It Bang,” Rey Res nostalgically takes listeners on a trip through 90s era California. The visuals for “Let It Bang” perfectly compliment the California state-of-mind and sees Rey providing a lighthearted tune that looks even more appealing as winter creeps on. On “Heart of the City” Rey pays homage to his hometown of San Jose and shows his dedication to repping his hood to the fullest. The video for the single follows the lead of “Let It Bang” as Rey introduces viewers to the city he loves. For his last single, Rey showcases a lo-fi aesthetic for the motivational anthem “Duck Down.” With three singles under his belt and the release of his new mixtape, Rey is ready to release Heart of the City on January 27th.
