Video: Rey Resurreccion – Heart Of The City
Cali MC Rey Resurreccion Drops Visuals For Title Track From Forthcoming Album, Tribute To San Jose
Rey Resurreccion is quickly rising in the Bay Area music scene, partially thanks to his use of the internet to create a strong fan base. Rey Res has opened for several top artists including Souls of Mischief, Bone Thugs N Harmony and Hieroglyphics, the last of which he toured with on their 2012 summer tour. A producer as well as an emcee, Rey has cultivated his own distinctive sound which he dubs, “Old Rust New Bang,” by layering heavy beats and nostalgic samples with cool, laid-back vocals.
“Heart Of The City” is the title track from Rey Resurreccion’s forthcoming debut album, and it definitely exemplifies the multi-talented artist’s “Old Rust New Bang” style. A Chex Mex-produced tribute to his hometown of San Jose and the West Coast in general, the visuals for the track follow the same colorful production as the video for “Let It Bang,” released earlier this month. Rey raps smoothly about the Cali lifestyle from the sunny window of a cruising car, and its not hard to see why he loves his city.
“We’ve cultivated our own scene and sound with what we have to work with,” says Rey about his hometown. “We work together to make things happen.” The cameraderie and hometown pride present in this track is a common theme throughout Rey’s upcoming album, not only in the lyrics of the songs but in the production too. As well as producing a few of the tracks on Heart of the City himself, Rey brought in several other San Jose producers to help him in the beat-making process, including The Bangerz and Audible Doctor.
