Critical Praise:

“A seasoned writer with a soulful and vulnerable style, her songwriting is multi-faceted and ultra-cultural.” ASCAP

A witty, talented lyricist who’s not afraid to reveal personal information as well as brag about her own skills, which are certainly numerable.” All Music

“Living proof that a female rapper can be just as badass as a male one, that ‘female’ can be dropped altogether as a qualifier so that she can just be a rapper.” – Pop Matter

“How many more intellectual rap nerds and gangster rap poseurs does she have to leave doubled over in pain before people take notice of her dopeness?” – RapReviews.com

The Song:

The first lady of Rhymesayers Ent., Chicago rapper Psalm One has been making noise in the underground rap scene for nearly a decade. With her new release, “Impatient (Just U & Us),” the brainy emcee proves she’s anything but ordinary. As Okayplayer described the single in their premiere, it’s “a trap-inflected take on the Bill Withers classic ‘Just the Two of Us,’ laced with full-spring high-hats and a heavenly hook, providing Psalm with the space to stretch out her rigged and raw verbiage over a cut that has all of the vibes.” Teaming up with fellow Rapper Chicks member Angelenah (fka Angel Davanport) who sings with a demanding urge on the song’s chorus, Psalm is yearning for love on the first single from her P.O.L.Y. (Psalm One Loves You) album, which is set to drop in September.

“Impatient (Just U & Us)” and the forthcoming P.O.L.Y. album follow Psalm One’s collaborative ZRO FOX EP with ProbCause, which released earlier this year and received praise from Complex and Consequence of Sound. Prior to ZRO FOX, Psalm One released her Free Hugs EP independently under her Hologram Kizzie alias in 2013. In addition to being a acronym for Psalm One Loves You, the P.O.L.Y. album title takes it’s name as an abbreviation of Polyamory, the philosophy or state of being in love or romantically involved with more than one person at the same time. “I have multiple loving relationships personally,” the Chicago rapper explains, “ and if you listen to the music, most of this album talks about it. I’ve never talked about it so much before. What makes this album so special to em s that I have so many loved ones working on it.”

Psalm One will be headlining her DIY Tour  with support from Angelenah, Fluffy, and the Palmer Squares throughout August, September, and October – hitting various festivals and venues in the Midwest and Northeast.
