The Announcement:

NEW YORK, NY August 20, 2021- SiriusXM and TikTok today announced the launch of TikTok Radio (ch. 4), the highly anticipated full-time music channel featuring the trending sounds that are redefining pop culture from TikTok. Presented by TikTok creators, tastemakers, top artists, and DJs, TikTok Radio will be available beginning today, at Noon ET, in vehicles and as a streaming channel on the SXM App, desktop, and all connected devices.

Sonically synched to the TikTok experience, the groundbreaking, full-time SiriusXM music channel will sound like a radio version of the platform’s “For You” feed. A talented and diverse group of TikTok creators including Billy (@8illy), Cat Haley (@itscathaley), HINDZ (@hindzsight), Lamar Dawson (@dirrtykingofpop), and Taylor Cassidy (@taylorcassidyj) will present music and share the stories behind the trends throughout each hour.  Listeners can expect to hear trending songs from music’s next generation of rising stars, viral hits, throwbacks and whatever else the TikTok community is vibing to.

TikTok Radio debuts today with takeovers throughout the week from some of the most followed personalities and artists from the TikTok Community with “Creator Invasion,” which will feature appearances from Alex Warren, Ashnikko, Bella Poarch, Dillon Francis, Dixie D’Amelio, Ed Sheeran, Jack Harlow, Just Stef, JXDN, Lil Nas X, Loren Gray, Nessa Barrett, Normani, Spencer X, Tai Verdes, Walker Hayes and more.

“Our groundbreaking new channel with TikTok is a first-of-its-kind, capturing the pulse of the global music culture, vibrancy and vitality found on the entertaining social platform and recreated as a full-time music channel on live national radio and our streaming platforms,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM. “The creators, who are also presenting the music on TikTok Radio, are deeply involved in the channel and will reflect the unique sound and personality of TikTok that is so enmeshed with today’s music culture and community. TikTok creators will be delivering new audio experiences for our listeners as they tap into the latest music trends on TikTok.”

“We’re so excited to launch TikTok Radio on SiriusXM, which opens up artists and creators like this amazing group of hosts to new audiences,” said  Ole Obermann, Global Head of Music, TikTok. “Now SiriusXM subscribers will have a new road to discover the latest trends in music and get a first listen to tomorrow’s musical superstars. The channel captures song-breaking music culture that creates so much joy and entertainment on TikTok through video in an all-audio format.”

Listeners will stay up to date on the moment’s most viral sounds with “The TikTok Radio Trending Ten,” a weekly countdown of the top 10 songs trending in the TikTok community, presented by the channel’s creator hosts.  This show will debut on Fridays at 3 p.m. ET with replays throughout the weekend and will be available anytime on the SXM App.

Direct from TikTok’s ‘For You’ feed, TikTok Radio’s resident DJs, DJ Habibeats (@djhabibeats) and DJ CONST (@erinconstantineofficial) will spin LIVE, simultaneously, on TikTok and TikTok Radio every week. They’ll mix tracks trending across the TikTok universe, with hand-selected songs Fridays and Saturdays starting at 7 p.m. ET with replays throughout the weekend and anytime on the SXM app.

“TikTok started as a place for me to have freedom to express my passions and meet people who were interested in creating a community around it,” says Taylor Cassidy (@taylorcassidyj). “I started in 2019 for fun and it quickly developed into a platform for me to spread joy through motivational videos, teach about Black history and culture, and create impact by uplifting other creators. The app has challenged me over time to be limitless with my creativity and authenticity which has inspired people to make positive change in their own life. One of the things I’m most excited about for being chosen as one the first hosts for TikTok Radio is being able to uplift and encourage more people just as I do on my account. As a creator who makes mainly Black culture content, I’m especially excited to give voices to music artists, trends, and creators who are making a huge difference on the app and beyond. One thing I can assure listeners on TikTok Radio is that I will always bring exactly who I am without boundary.”

“One of my favorite things about TikTok is that, musically, the platform isn’t just focused on one genre or style,” says DJ Habibeats (@djhabibeats). “In the spirit of that, my mix show on SiriusXM is going to be varied and fun – covering different eras and genres while staying true to my roots in hip hop. To be one of the first-ever mix show DJs on TikTok Radio is such an honor. So much new music is breaking on TikTok and putting people on to new music is exactly why I started DJing in the first place.”

The launch of TikTok Radio follows the TikTok Tastemakers Series and TikTok Hits Playlist previously released on Pandora. Read the press release HERE.

TikTok Radio marks another part of the collaboration between TikTok, SiriusXM and Pandora to deliver access to groundbreaking programming, exclusive performances, special events, and some of music’s top and emerging talent to their loyal fans across each of their platforms.

YN Jay Details How to Concoct the Ideal Beverage in Video for “Mix The Yeahhhhh”

    8.20.2021

Video: YN Jay – “Mix The Yeahhhhh

YN Jay Mobs With His Crew in an Intoxicating Video from his Coochie Chronicles Project

    Critical Praise:

“”There is Bruce Wayne and Batman. Clark Kent and Superman. And now, YN Jay and the Coochie Man” – Pitchfork

“Flint, Michigan wouldn’t be one of the hottest scenes in rap without ‘Coochie,’ ‘Coochie World,’ ‘Coochie Scout,’ a mixtape titled Coochie Land, and Coochie Man, the floor-humping alter ego of YN Jay.” – Pitchfork

“‘Coochie’ is one of the funniest hip-hop videos of the last five years” – XXL

“The Flint native is one of the more eccentric rappers in Michigan, rapping about coochie, using very distinct ‘hold onnnnnnnnnnnnn’ ad-ibs, and starting off songs by asking the producer: ‘Why you always do that mannnnnnnn?’ I’m honestly not sure what these producers are doing while YN Jay is recording in the booth, but whatever it is, it’s working. The music is always wildly entertaining.” – Complex

“He raps in different voices, draws out words like they’re self-contained riddles. You never know if he’s entirely serious, but that’s the point.” – SPIN

    The Video:

YN Jay steadily captivates crowds with his unique brand of Michigan rap flair. Continuing his hot streak, YN Jay shares Mix The Yeahhhhh,” a new music video. Produced by Southside Rich, “Mix The Yeahhhhh” finds Jay skating atop low-key, percolating production, executing his provocative and charismatic flow with ease. Directed by frequent collaborator DP Visuals, the video features YN Jay flexing with his squad and partying as he delivers his supreme scheme on mixing the ideal beverage. He can also be seen puffing on one of his trademark “Coochie blunts,” referenced in his latest interview for HotNewHipHop’s “How To Roll,” filling the ‘wood to capacity. “Mix The Yeahhhhh” is the latest video from Coochie Chronicles, YN Jay’s recent project, following last week’s clip for “Immaculate.”

Home to recent singles like Slow Motion” and the earlier “Triple S Remix” ft. Coi LerayCoochie Chronicles ushers listeners into Jay’s sex-crazed mind, the Beecher, MI native wielding a slip-sliding, start-stopping flow as he unleashes a torrent of punchlines and outrageous boasts. Covered by PitchforkThe FADER, and more, the project is also home to Oxyyyyy,” a paean to Jay’s favorite narcotic, the ebullient opening track Summer Time,” and his signature song Coochie,” a collaboration with Jay’s close friend Louie Ray that has more than 30 million YouTube views. Featuring an additional appearance from Flint heavy-hitter Rio Da Yung OGCoochie Chronicles is available everywhere via Alamo Records.

Driven to take rap seriously after his older brother died, YN Jay quickly started to build a reputation as one of the most colorful characters in a hometown Flint scene populated almost exclusively by colorful characters. He started to get mainstream notice with his single “Coochie,” which introduced the world to Jay’s one-track mind and eventually racked up over 26 million YouTube views. Jay is a nearly mythic figure on TikTok, generating millions of video creations on viral hits like “Kakashi,” “Coochie Land,” and “Coochie Scout,” and inspiring TikTok comedian @Nuhchez to splice YN Jay’s voice into Coolio’s “Gangsta’s Paradise” and create one of the platform’s most successful running jokes. YN Jay’s inimitable style earned him co-signs from Drake and Lil Uzi Vert, and last month, he made his festival debut when he performed at Rolling Loud Miami.

With Coochie Chronicles out, and much more music on the way, YN Jay is looking to take his distinct strain of Michigan rap to national prominence. Hold onnnnnn…YN Jay is coming for the throne.

    The Background:

“It’s scary how easy it is for me to make music,” admits 21-year-old rapper YN Jay. This is true of his 2020 hit “Coochie” and the follow-up album Coochie Land. “It was made in three minutes, easily, and the video did 30 million views. I’ve been writing songs to go a certain way my whole life, but it never worked. Now, I’m not overthinking it, and it’s making me a star.” After over a decade at the mic, the Beecher, Michigan native has given rap fans an alternative to music about violence and drugs.

Amid his rise, Jay got cosigns from Drake and Lil Uzi Vert. While Drizzy and Jay are exploring music, he recorded extensively with Uzi. The same night the two discussed collaborating, Jay stopped everything to drive to Philly. “I pulled up; we did damn near eight songs.” One track, the “coochie”-inspired “HOLD ONNNNN,” promises to release during an exciting 2021. Fresh off of Ninja Warrior—an album featuring Lil Yachty and Sada Baby that he conceptualized and recorded in a single day, YN Jay recently signed a deal with Alamo Records and is focused on showcasing his versatility and staying power. “I’m working on a few albums and letting the world know how big this is. Anybody can be a rapper; I’m trying to catch the culture and update the game.”

    The Background:

Blessed with a special singing voice, and the knowledge of how best to use it, Florida’s Rod Wave is taking his own path to the top of the game. Coming through with a soulful set of Southern sing-raps, the St. Petersburg native has built a groundswell of regional support and blossomed into a national streaming phenomenon. After releasing 3 projects in a 12 month span – Hunger Games 3PTSD, and the platinum-certified Ghetto Gospel – Rod first erupted onto the scene with “Heart On Ice.” The single, propelled by a captivating Genius Open Mic performance, a viral TikTok trend, and co-signs from NFL star Saquon Barkley to 21 Savage and everyone in between, was certified 3x-platinum, peaked at #25 on the Bllboard Hot 100 charts and reached #1 at urban radio. Rod’s debut album, Pray 4 Love, debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 charts and was certified platinum less than a year after its release. The album’s breakthrough single, “Rags2Riches,” exploded over the summer with a viral TikTok trend and a remix from Lil Baby, peaking at #12 on the Hot 100. Rod’s sophomore album, SoulFly, surpassed Pray 4 Love by becoming Rod’s first-ever #1 album on the Billboard charts. Lead single “Tombstone” is Rod’s highest charting single to-date, peaking at #11 on the Hot 100.

BLOOD BROTHERS: MALCOLM X & MUHAMMAD ALI INFO:

    Premiere Date: Sept. 9, 2021
    Format: Documentary Feature
    Director: Marcus A. Clarke
    Producers: Kenya Barris, Jason Perez
Executive Producers: Erynn Sampson, Jonathan Chinn, Simon Chinn, Simon George and Marcus A. Clarke.

This Kenya Barris produced documentary tells the extraordinary story behind the friendship of two of the most iconic figures of the 20th century.

    Synopsis:
For three pivotal years, Muhammad Ali and Malcolm X forged a brotherhood that would not only change both men but change the world. Blood Brothers: Malcolm X & Muhammad Ali tells the extraordinary story behind the friendship —and the ultimate falling out— of two of the most iconic figures of the 20th century. Few people understand the bond these men shared. In this new feature-length documentary from producer Kenya Barris, director Marcus A. Clarke offers a fresh perspective by using insider voices and never-before-seen footage to chart this most complex of friendships, tracing the near simultaneous and symbiotic rise of the charismatic and outspoken Olympic champion who charmed the nation, and the ex-con-turned intellectual revolutionary who railed against oppression. Through interviews with those closest to them — Malcolm X’s daughter Ilyasah Shabazz, Ali’s brother Rahman and daughters Maryum and Hana — and cultural luminaries such as Cornel West and Al Sharpton, the film illuminates their meeting, bonding, and eventual falling out over discord within the leadership of the Nation of Islam. Inspired by the book “Blood Brothers” written by Randy Roberts and Johnny Smith, the film is directed by Marcus A. Clarke (Unsolved Mysteries, Rapture), produced by Kenya Barris and Jason Perez and executive produced by Erynn Sampson, Jonathan Chinn, Simon Chinn, Simon George and Marcus A. Clarke.

This week was a big one for hip-hop on the platform, which saw trends inspired by the new single from TikTok favorites Lizzo & Cardi B, songs by rising rappers like Babyxsosa and Juice Armani, and a 2014 cut from J. Cole. Take a look at how hip-hop, last year’s top genre on TikTok, continues to make a major impact on the platform:

    • Lizzo, the self-proclaimed “Queen of TikTok,” had a busy week on the platform, as she celebrated the release of her song “Rumors,” a collab with fellow TikTok favorite Cardi B. After previewing the song on TikTok one week in advance of its official release, the gregarious hitmaker spent the weekend posting up a storm, dueting creators’ body-positive dances to the song, answering frequent questions about the song (to the tune of “Magic Bomb” by Hoang Read), and FaceTiming with her collaborator Cardi. The unquestioned highlight of her week, however, came when she convinced her mom to twerkto the new song. Lizzo’s relentless “Rumors” promotion has made a positive impact on the app and off, inspiring 15k video creations in its first four days, and over 13 million views on its music video.
    • In 2019, Canadian rapper bbno$ scored one of the first massive TikTok hits with “Lalala,” generating over 938k video creations on the song, which eventually was certified double Platinum by the RIAA. Now armed with his single “edamame” ft. Rich Brian, bbno$ is crashing For You pages all over the world once again. With over 50k video creations, the song is being fueled by a wave of dance videos from Rich Brian’s native Indonesia, a co-sign from a sleepy Bassett Hound, as well as a series of eye-catching (or eyebrow-catching) TikToks from bb and Rich Brian themselves. bb also teamed up with TikTok-beloved remixer Llusion, who made a heavy, slowed-down “phonk” remix of the song, much to bb’s delight.
    • TikTok continues its habit of reviving past hits with “She Knows,” a track from J. Cole’s 2014 album 2014 Forest Hills Drive. The song has inspired over 196.7K+ creations, with an enormous amount of content appearing in recent weeks. The trend, based on the first lines of the chorus “She knows, she knows,” sees TikTok users making a statement and emphasizing that the person it’s directed to knows the truth. While many users joke about their mothers knowing when they’re lying, others speak of manifesting specific color cars to determine their soulmate and trusting their significant other’s instincts while in a relationship.
    • A good dance can be done to any song—whether new or old. Schoolboy Q’s 2014 bass-booster “Collard Greens” (41.5K+ creations) and upcoming Baltimore rapper MoneyMarr’s “Mix It” (52.3K+ creations) are making waves in the TikTok community, powered by a viral dance trend that inspires users to show off their footwork by doing a side-step skip across the room. The dance, coined as the “Jojo Shuffle” by TikTok creator @kingjojo.inc, is gaining traction on the app because of how universal and humorous the dance moves are. TikTok users are recreating the dance in bear costumes, during volleyball practice, and even recording their failed attempts at getting it right.
    • One of the most welcome new sounds trending on TikTok is the entrancing, bubbly hip-hop of Babyxsosa’severywhereigo.” The song started trending on the back of a charming video by @anxcity, in which she grins from ear-to-ear and vibes in her apartment. The unassuming video has generated over 17 million views since its upload on August 1st. With over 192k video creations, the song inspired a trend where users show off their filter-assisted pearly whites. The Richmond, Virginia native and Surf Gang emcee is riding high off her TikTok success–the song reached the top 10 of Spotify’s U.S. Viral 50 and racked up over 9 million streams on Spotify alone.
    • The TikTok community has a boundless appetite for discovery, and the latest beneficiary is rising rapper Juice Armani. His smooth, auto-tuned breakout song “Offended” has over 100k combined creations between the official and user-generated content. The song is trending on the back of a new dance, choreographed by TikTok creator @pjhowardiv, and is the basis of a text-on-screen trend that allows creators to speak on their relationship statuses, or share funny, relatable commentary. In some recent creations, users link up with their friends to do the trend over Juice’s melodic vocals, including a pair of athletes who did the dance during football practice.

This month, TikTok is celebrating #ElectronicMusicMonth, honoring the platform’s sizable community of artists, DJs, producers, and fans. Programming from the month includes promoted hashtags (including the #electronicmusic tag), custom playlists from artist guests like Jayda G, Carl Cox, and Nina Kraviz, and new genre playlists for techno and house on TikTok’s music hub. Stay tuned for more electronic music updates throughout the month!

Hear 3 New Songs by 🍇 03 Greedo on the 03 Inna Key EP

    8.18.2021

    EP: 03 Greedo – 03 Inna Key

The L.A. Rapper Reminds Fans Why He’s One of the Most Creative Melodists in the Game With a Percolating 3-Song Set

    Critical Praise:

“The latest hope of Los Angeles hip-hop” – Rolling Stone

“The Watts rapper is an essential piece of West Coast rap” – Pitchfork

“Los Angeles street-rap weirdo 03 Greedo is one of the most exciting and inventive voices around right now, and he already released one of the best rap albums of the year” – Stereogum

“Literally no one else on Leonardo DiCaprio’s green Earth talks flavorful cash sh*t as wonderfully as 03 Greedo.” – Complex

“This mixtape is a step away from his usual sunny LA sound, but 03 Greedo knew what he was doing when he enlisted the help of Kenny Beats. This link up has resulted in an entertaining, yet simple record, the concept expertly executed. ‘Netflix and Deal’ is a cinema experience – minus the over-expensive snacks.” – NME

    The EP:

A master of languid melodies and late night vibes, 03 Greedo’s music benefits from the rapper’s endless appetite for invention. The Los Angeles cult hero remains behind bars, but today, he releases 03 Inna Key, a new 3-song set that reminds the rap game of his singular talent. The new EP was released early to JPay, a prison telecom company, a gesture from Greedo that allows incarcerated people to get the first opportunity to hear the new songs.

“Here’s 03 new songs for the fans before we get back to ballin,” says 03 Greedo. “This is the beginning of a campaign that resembles my grind in 2017-18.”

The three tracks on the 03 Inna Key EP provide a solid overview of Greedo’s versatile talents. Produced by Pompano Puff, the lead-off track “Airbnb” is an uptempo anthem that showcases Greedo’s facility with taffy like melody and his supernatural rhythmic pocket, as he “talks a lot a sh*t like a reporter” for the length of the 5-minute track. “Calendar,” produced by theycallmeParker, is a quintessential example of “creep music,” a strain of L.A. rap that Greedo perfected early in his career and revisited on last year’s Ron-RonTheProducer-helmed project Load It Up Vol. 01. The EP’s closing track, “Liar Liar,” is a pointed missive at fake friends and haters that references the titular Jim Carrey film in the hypnotic hook, and points back to 2019’s Netflix & Deala movie-mad collection of bangers produced by Kenny Beats.

When 03 Greedo learned he was facing a long sentence in prison, he entered a period of furious creativity, recording thousands of songs to be released during his time inside. Earlier this year, Greedo’s 2018 song “Substance” made waves on TikTok, prompting Wiz Khalifa to hop on the remix. Last year, Greedo shared Load It Up Vol. 01, buzzing singles like the hook-filled “Baccstage ftShordie Shordie & Wallie The Sensei, the hard-hitting “Drip Keep Going” ft. Key Glock, and especially the Chief Keef-assisted trap anthem “Bands In Da Basement.” In 2019, Greedo released collaborative projects with heavy-hitting producers Mustard, Travis Barker, and Kenny Beats.

Ready to flood the market with more of his massive backlog of music, 03 Greedo will make his presence felt in 2021, even if he remains behind bars. Stay tuned for much more.

Baja Beach Fest put on an unforgettable weekend of nonstop Latin music and Reggaeton. Sunday found festival-goers in a celebratory mood, as the passionate fans were treated to sets by some of the biggest stars of the genre.

The night closed with a flashy performance from global superstar J Balvin, who played songs from his 2020 hit Colores album, new songs from his upcoming album José, and brought out special guest Nio GarciaBecky G delivered bangers in both English and Spanish, and Rauw Alejandro proved why he’s one of Latin music’s hottest commodities with his pure-voiced melodies. The fest also welcomed “Relación” and “Otro Trago” hitmaker Sech, powerhouse singer-songwriters Justin Quiles and Jhay Cortez, and Chilean singer Paloma Mami.

This edition of Baja Beach Fest provides a blueprint for festivals in this uncertain time, paving a path forward for fans to enjoy live music in a communal setting. The festival enacted safety protocols to protect guests–fans were required to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test from COVID Clinic–but the fest’s positive vibes inspired fans to protect each other, masking up to make sure the Perreo could go on.

    THE BACKGROUND:

When Ozuna and Mark B sang “El día está pa’ playa y arena, la vamos a pasar muy bien” in 2016, they very well may have been foreseeing the launch of the Baja Beach Fest two years later. After a remarkable inaugural year,  Baja Beach Fest is back for its sophomore year, celebrating the Latin community, beach vibes, and young Latin trap/reggaeton music. The first and only festival of its kind –– Baja Beach Fest Fest is held on the sand of the oceanfront resort of Rosarito, creating an all-encompassing experience of music and coastal feels. It was imagined into existence by two friends, Chris Den Uijl and Aaron Ampudia, and dedicated to the local community who wanted to bring the world’s most streamed artists together for a weekend of music. The 2021 edition of Baja Beach Fest brings an expansion from one two-day weekend to two three-day weekends, and promises performances from headliners Anuel AA, J Balvin, Ozuna, and Karol G.

Young Dolph, Jay Fizzle, and Snupe Bandz Share “Here We Go” Video 🔺👁

The Paper Route EMPIRE CEO Perfects His Flexes With the Help of Two Label Signees in the Latest Video from PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi

    The Video:

Determined to showcase his home city’s best rising talent, Young Dolph is cultivating a movement in Memphis with his Paper Route EMPIRE label. Recruiting PRE signees Jay Fizzle and Snupe Bandz, Dolph shares Here We Go,” his latest video. Produced by Memphis’s own Sosa 808, “Here We Go” is a thumping taste of Tennessee trap, leading off with a powerhouse verse from Dolph (“Bury me in a Dolce & Gabbana coffin”), before Fizzle unleashes flex-heavy triplets, and Snupe dances around the beat with a tumbling flow. In the video, Dolph, Snupe, and Fizzle trap out of a Memphis mansion, counting cash in the presence of scantily clad models.

“Here We Go” is the latest video from PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi, Paper Route EMPIRE’s first-ever compilation mixtape, following recent clips for Snupe Bandz’sRemember” and Key Glock & Snupe Bandz’s Bandaid.” The mixtape represents the culmination of a long and fruitful rise for Young Dolph–the mogul is ready to flex his A&R and CEO muscles, bringing a new crop of talent to the forefront. Along with Key Glock and Snupe Bandz, the tape features standout contributions from street favorites like Big Moochie Grape and Kenny Muney, and new signees like PaperRoute Woo, Big Unccc, and PRE first lady Joddy Badass. The 23-track tape offers the label to showcase its roster in plenty of combinations, and leaves room for big shots like Dolph, Glock, and Moochie to show off on solo songs of their own. PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi continues a banner year for the label, following up the release of Dum And Dummer 2, a collaborative album by Young Dolph and Key Glock. Debuting at #8 on the Billboard 200Dum and Dummer 2 generated nearly 36k sales equivalent units across platforms and scored the fifth-biggest streaming debut on Spotify during its first week of release. Earlier this month, the album received a glowing review from Pitchfork, who awarded the album a 7.5 score and cemented Young Dolph & Key Glock as a “once-in-a-generation” rap duo, akin to 8Ball & MJG or Method Man & Redman, and “one of the most in-sync alliances in the genre today.” Dum & Dummer 2 is the duo’s second Top 10 album, following the original Dum and Dummer, which debuted at #8 in 2019.

    🌴 Baja Beach Fest 2021 – Saturday Recap 🌴

The Rosarito, MX Festival Provides a Communal Celebration of Latin Music While Enacting Strict Protocols to Keep Everyone Safe

    Critical Praise:

Best New Festival in North America – USA Today’s 10 Best Reader’s Choice 2019

Featured article: Baja Beach Fest Founders Aaron Ampudia And Chris Den Uijl Discuss Their Reggaeton Festival’s Cross-Border Business – Pollstar

“Only on its second consecutive year, the fest, nestled on the glistening beach of Rosarito, Mexico, has managed to become a player on the global festival scene” – Billboard

    THE RECAP:

Baja Beach Fest is more than just a concert, it’s a communal celebration of Latin music and culture. Between each set, festival host DJ Fredy Fresco treats the crowd to Latin hits from through the decades–ranging from 1998’s “Suavemente” to 2004’s “Gasolina” to 2019’s “Te Boté.” The endless parade of Latin hits keeps the crowd energized, but it also gives crucial context to the music of the festival’s performers, situating them in a long and noble tradition of Spanish-language sounds.

Saturday’s acts more than lived up to that standard. Anuel AA brought his smoky-voiced bravado to his first ever BBF performance. Versatile hitmaker Farruko brought down the house with his first ever performance of the electronic crossover smash “PEPAS,” and Puerto Rican reggaetoneros Myke Towers dug into his deep bag of hits, and Miami native up-and-comer Mariah stole the show, performing her hit Karol G collaboration “EL MAKINON.”

This year, the open-air, oceanside Baja Beach Fest was able to proceed due to its rigorous safety protocols. All guests entering the festival were required to show proof of vaccination, or to provide a negative test (taken within 72 hours of the festival’s start) from a COVID Clinic location. While in the festival, guests are required to wear masks, unless actively eating or drinking. The comprehensive safety protocol sets a gold standard, paving a path forward for live music to proceed safely in an uncertain time, and for festival-goers to hear the music they love in a communal setting once again.

Founded by Chris Den Uijl and Aaron Ampudia in 2018, Baja Beach Fest is well on its way to becoming an institution in Rosarito and the music industry at large. Tomorrow, the first weekend of the 2021 fest ends with a bang, promising some of the event’s most notable performers, including headliner J Balvin, “Relación” hitmaker Sech, pop phenom Becky G, rising superstars Rauw Alejandro & Jhay Cortez, plus many more.

DC The Don Is Impossible to Ignore on “Notice Me”

    8.13.2021

Video: DC The Don -“Notice Me

The Multi-Talented Milwaukee Native Shares the Full Version of a Song His Fans Have Been Anticipating For Months

    Critical Praise:

“Not only can he sing with so much emotion behind his words, but he also knows how to masterfully rap as well as switch up his cadences constantly, always keeping you guessing about what he’s going to do next.” – Lyrical Lemonade

“Los Angeles by way of Milwaukee’s DC The Don is part rapper, part rockstar, excelling in the melodic and riotous lane popularized by cult heroes like Lil Uzi Vert and Trippie Redd.” – Audiomack

    The Video:

A versatile talent who takes inspiration from multiple genres, DC The Don cannot help but command the spotlight. Delivering a new song highly-anticipated by his fans, DC shares “Notice Me,” a remix of Big Time Rush’s single “Boyfriend.” The 21-year-old artist has been teasing the remix on social media for months, generating over 70k views on a YouTube snippet and drawing the attention of Big Time Rush’s Kendall Schmidt, who posted about it on his Instagram. Delivering candy-coated melodies and atop the song’s percolating synths, DC chronicles all the ways he demands attention, from his sports car, to his bankroll, to his uber-confident attitude: “Oh you got a fast car? Come and race me/I’m in my Demon, whoa, you drive at safe speed.”

The video for “Notice Me” exhibits DC’s keen sense for visual flair. The Milwaukee native forms a four-man boy band, complete with matching wardrobes and choreographed dances, before heading back to an L.A. chateau for poolside fun. “Notice Me” is the latest in a line of quality DC The Don videos, following the red-tinted Megalodon” and The Sandlot-homaging Ghost Rider.”

The 22-year-old rapper had a successful 2020, marked by his debut album Come As You Are and its deluxe edition. With more than 75 million streams across platforms, Come As You Are emphasizes the importance of being authentic to your creative self. The album was home to DC’s buzzing single WORST DAY : ( (12 million total streams), as well as standout ragers like Wait Your Turn,” “NASCAR RACER,” and Campfire Story.” Featuring production from Supah MarioTrademarkSephGotTheWaves, and more, Come As You Are (Deluxe) is available everywhere via Rostrum Records.

DC The Don is currently putting the finishing touches on My Own Worst 3nemy his second album, set to release later this year via Rostrum Records. Stay tuned for much more music from the one-of-a-kind artist in the weeks to come.

    The Background:

DC The Don is a rapper from Milwaukee, WI. In 2016, at the age of 16 and standing 6’7”, DC moved to Los Angeles to pursue a basketball career under Lavar Ball and alongside teammate LaMelo Ball. During this time, he fell in love with music and used his spare time to make experimental records which suddenly gained traction – As the public became increasingly aware of DC The Don’s talent for rapping, NBA player Lonzo Ball featured his song “Everything 1k” on the first Big Baller Brand shoe commercial, introducing DC The Don’s music to an even wider audience. DC signed to Rostrum Records in 2020, releasing his debut album Come As You Are on August 7th, generating over 75 million streams across platforms.

  • Press Release

“Coochie Man” YN Jay Delivers Flawless Flexes in “Immaculate”

    8.12.2021

    Video: YN Jay – “Immaculate

The Rising Rapper Kicks Back In His Hometown of Beecher, MI in the Latest Video from Coochie Chronicles

    The Video:

He might be known for his gyrating dance moves and outrageous ad-libs, but don’t underestimate YN Jay‘s superlative spitting skills. Taking time to flex his pen game, Jay shares Immaculate,” his new video. Kicking off with one of Jay’s signature messages to the track’s producer–in this case Marc Boomin (“Marc, man, why you do that, man?”)–”Immaculate” finds the rapper known as the “Coochie Man” rattling off a succession of pitch-perfect punchlines: “Coochie Man a superhero, b*tch, I’m Marvel like DC/Tell a story, I can take it way back like B.C.” In the video, directed by DP Visuals, YN Jay wilds out near his old high school in his hometown of Beecher, MI (Go Buccaneers!), relaxing with his crew and mugging for the camera.

“Immaculate” is the latest in a long line of videos from Coochie Chronicles, YN Jay’s recent project, following last week’s Slow Motion” and the earlier “Triple S Remix” ft. Coi Leray.  Coochie Chronicles ushers listeners into Jay’s sex-crazed mind, wielding a slip-sliding, start-stopping flow as he unleashes a torrent of punchlines and outrageous boasts. Covered by PitchforkThe FADER, and more, the project is home to the single Oxyyyyy,” a paean to Jay’s favorite narcotic, the ebullient opening track Summer Time,” and his signature song Coochie,” a collaboration with Jay’s close friend Louie Ray that has more than 30 million YouTube views.

  • Press Release

#AltTikTok, Alt-J, and All-Time Rap Classics Define Music on TikTok This Week

    8.11.2021

TikTok Treats, Week of August 9th

    The News:

Each week, the TikTok Treats newsletter gives a snapshot of the state of music on TikTok, touching on trending hits, emerging artists, superstar moves, ascendant memes, and much more. This week, #AltTikTok picks a new favorite jam, creators celebrate their new Netflix show, and rap music new and old lift spirits and inspire new dances. Take a look at what’s been percolating on TikTok in recent weeks, finishing with a look at the kind of music that could only have originated on the platform:

    • Creators who consider themselves part of #AltTikTok consciously go against the grain, but in recent weeks, a decades-old anthem has united the niche community’s disparate corners. With an infectious riot grrl energy and easily-chantable nonsense lyrics, Le Tigre’sDeceptacon” is capable of making even the most introverted music lover move their feet. With over 78k video creations so far, “Deceptacon” hits the spot, whether creators are chanting along with Kathleen Hanna’s lyrics, playing air guitar to the solo, or styling intentionally ugly outfits.
    • TikTok has a rotating series of favorite television shows that inspire creators to use music from those shows to set a familiar vibe. The community’s current favorite show is Netflix’s Outer Banks, which has inspired two new music trends. The first involves Alt-J’s “Left Hand Free(50k creations), a big ’10s radio hit that also serves as the show’s theme song, over which creators impersonate their favorite characters like JJ and Sarah Cameron (and her enviable makeup job). The other song is Celeste’s ballad “Strange,” which soundtracks a dramatic moment in the show, and has inspired over 30k video creations, many of which involve attempts to imitate the main character’s distinct “ugly cry” face during the scene. Keenly aware of their popularity on the app, the cast of the Outer Banks used cast member @AustinNorth‘s TikTok account to ask the community what they thought of Season 2.
    • Known for his boisterous personality and unprintable lyrics, rapper BfB Da Packman effortlessly generates viral moments. Teaming up with fellow TikTok fav Coi Leray, the mailman-turned-rapper has a TikTok hit on his hands with his gleefully inappropriate, Wu-Tang-referencing song “Ocean Prime.” The song has inspired more than 100k video creations, spurred by a dance trend that adds choreography to the transition between Packman’s chorus and Coi’s verse. The trend has reached influential TikTok creators like @zoifishh and Coi herself, and its proof positive of the community’s love for scandalous wordplay.
    • In uncertain times, everyone could use a mood booster, and that’s exactly what the band Hot Freaks is providing with their fizzy indie pop song “Puppy Princess.” Perhaps inspired by the pet friendly song title, TikTok creators are using the song to show off cute animals, ranging from cats with hats to cats in love. Other users are swooning over the romantic chorus lyrics (“kiss me with your eyes closed”), showing off potential date outfits, and creating upbeat videos to accompany road trip packing. With over 48k video creations to date, “Puppy Princess” is quickly seeing its TikTok success translate into IRL numbers, as it currently sits at #2 on Spotify’s U.S. Viral 50 chart.
    • It’s never too early to teach kids the classics. This is a lesson that @momma_mandy_plus7knows very well, and her devotion to exposing her children to yesterday’s hits has resulted in one of TikTok’s most viral videos of the year so far. Last week, she posted a video of her toddler jamming out to “Regulate,” the stone cold 1993 classic by Warren G & Nate Dogg, generating over 26 million views and winning the admiration of the TikTok community. The video has sparked renewed interest in the song on the app, with some users showing off baby walking, and others creating regal skateboarding vibes.
    • Musicians on TikTok are endlessly creative, able to use their improvisatory skills to jam with any man, woman, or beast. TikTok users like @heidimuzynskimusic and @harrythedrummer turn a kitten’s melodic mewls into the next frontier of jazz scatting. Musicians like @tom_franek and @sherzodergashev_ can hear microtonal notes in a cat’s slobbering, transforming a silly moment into a groovy Uzbek jam. With TikTok’s duet feature, a drunken argument can become an intro to a midwest emo banger, and a playful road trip chant can inspire @yeahitsak to make a rap banger (now with a sequel!) that racks up over 7 million views, and over 800 video creations, many of which embellish and add to the song. Just when it seems like there might be a limit to the community’s creativity,

Though this week’s newsletter focused on esoteric and humorous trends, TikTok is still making a major impact on the pop charts. The current number one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, “Stay” by Justin Bieber and The Kid Laroi (830k video creations), built momentum as a snippet on Laroi’s TikTok, and other top ten hits like Olivia Rodrigo’s “good 4 u” (2.6 million creations) and Doja Cat’s “Kiss Me More” (2.8 million creations). Further down the chart, fans will find TikTok-propelled hits like Kali Uchis’s “Telapatía” (1.7 million creations), Maneskin’s “Beggin” (8.5 million creations), Farruko’s “PEPAS” (764k creations), and Sleepy Hallow’s “2055” (158k vcreations). Keep focusing on TikTok to find the biggest hits of today, and the future smashes of tomorrow.

Zombie 🤎Juice & Devin The Dude Reach a Higher Consciousness In “Alto”

    8.11.2021

Audio: Zombie 🤎Juice – “Alto” ft. Devin The Dude & Rae Khalil

The Flatbush Zombies Emcee Recruits a Legendary Stoner for an Atmospheric, Mind-Altering New Single

    Critical Praise:

“Zombie Juice stands out for his rapid-fire rap style as well as his ever-changing hair color.”The New York Times

    The Song:

Well known as a member of Flatbush Zombies and Beast Coast, Brooklyn’s Zombie 🤎Juice is ready to strike out on his own. Indulging in one of his favorite pastimes with a fellow cannabis connoisseur, Juice shares Alto,” his new single featuring Devin The Dude and Rae Khalil. While the beat–produced by Zombie 🤎Juice’s Flatbush Zombies associate Erick The Architect–might be hazy, complete with woozy guitars that shift in and out of key, Zombie 🤎Juice and Devin’s thoughts are clear, as they drop crisp pearls of wisdom with their slo-mo flows.

Juice luxuriates within the beat, carefully enunciating every word and extending his “s” sounds as he mixes punchlines with profundity: “Might hot box the whip like B-Real was in it/Had a dream, feelin’ lucid, and every word I meant it/We put the hood name on our back, I’m used to heavy lifting.” Meanwhile, Devin The Dude delivers the stoner wisdom and laid-back rhymes that fans have enjoyed for decades: “Dedicate myself, I medicate myself/Stay away from hard drugs, I’ll never hate myself.” “Alto” will appear on Zombie 🤎Juice’s solo debut project, due to release in the coming months.

“This has been a long time coming. I can’t think of a better way to launch my solo journey than with Erick The Architect on the beat, the legendary Devin the Dude on the mic, and the hypnotic sounds of Rae Khalil. Peace and love and Ganja Smoke.” –  Zombie 🤎Juice.”

Earlier this week, Zombie 🤎Juice shared “Jackin’ For Beats,” a stylish new clip that highlights his natural emcee skills. The new song finds the FBZ spitter doing his thing atop three classic beats, rejuvenated by Erick The Architect: “Me Against The World” by 2Pac, and “Never Change” and “So Ghetto” by Jay-Z. Captivating with his soft-spoken, but fast-moving flow, Juice finds his own pockets within the familiar instrumentals, mixing up carefree punchlines with heady political statements: “They normalize hate and pain/Cause deep down it’s hard to change/Generational trauma, maybe we all to blame.” In the video, directed by Keaton Brownlow, Juice rocks an outfit from Desto Dubb’s Cough Syrup brand as he raps in front of backdrops that shift along with the song’s three beats.

One-third of the Billboard Top Ten-charting collective Flatbush Zombies, Zombie 🤎Juice is one of the most respected emcees in his home city, celebrated for his twisty flows and incisive lyrics. Since the trio formed in 2010, they’ve made waves with albums like 2016’s 3001: A Laced Odysseyand 2019’sVacation In Hell. Though the group is currently on hiatus while the members pursue their solo projects, they performed a Tiny Desk (At Home) concert for NPR in last August. On his upcoming solo project, Zombie 🤎Juice will delve deep within himself, reckoning with personal demons and defining himself as a full-fledged artist, not merely a member of a group.

In addition to music, Zombie 🤎Juice is the CEO of Talking Terps, a brand that specializes in streetwear and herbs. Stay tuned for much more music and announcements from the emcee in the near future.

Chino Cappin Shares Silky Smooth Ladders Project, Frolics in “Still Loading” Video

  • Press Release

Chino Cappin Shares Silky Smooth Ladders Project, Frolics in “Still Loading” Video

    8.10.2021

Georgia Riser Chino Cappin Skillfully Blends Rap and R&B in New Ladders Project

The Alamo Records Signee Flexes By the Pool In the Video for Project Opener “Still Loading

The 20-Year-Old Artist’s 10-Track Project Features Appearances from Metro Marrs and Enchanting

    Critical Praise:

“It seems Chino Cappin’ has found his own lane, and he performs best when he puts his impressive voice to use.” – HotNewHipHop

“He explores his relationships with his loved ones on the deeply personal track” – UPROXX

“Dirty South influences and driving top lines set Chino Cappin apart” – Dummy Mag

    The Project + Video:

Chino Cappin is a special talent, equally able to deliver silky smooth vocals as he is able to rattle off triplet flows. Looking to take the next step in his ascension to the top of the rap game, Chino shares Ladders, his brand new project. The 20-year-old artist’s showcase the bravado of a man confident in his abilities, like on the recent single, “Hot Sh*t” ft. Metro Marrs, but also demonstrates the maturity necessary to describe complex relationship scenarios with relatable lyrics.

Ladders is home to recent singles like the aspirational Shine, and the sultry break-up anthem “Fake Love,” and explores new dimensions of his character on introspective songs like “Feelings” and romantic tracks like “Sunshine.” Imbued with Chino’s deep love of music and his gratitude for escaping out the mud on the back of his talent, Ladders finds the 20-year-old artist as he’s ready to explode out of his hometown in rural Georgia and draw new connections between rap and R&B on a national scale. Featuring an additional appearance from 1017’s EnchantingLadders is available to stream everywhere via Alamo Records.

Along with the project, Chino shares the video for “Still Loading,” the project’s delicate and melodic opening track. Dominated by a plaintive piano melody that dances atop trap drums, “Still Loading” is a scenic overview of Chino’s life as a young boss, proving that even though he can sing softly, he’s no pushover: “You ain’t hard at all/You just talkin’/You your daddy’s son/You your pop’s kid.” In the video, Chino and a homie relax by the pool as they move to the beat of the music.

Born and raised in Fort Valley, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta, Chino focused on music as a teenager as a way to escape his rough circumstances. The rapper built a cult following in the Southeast with mixtapes like Cold Hearted and Too Many Losses, which combined strong melodic instincts with braggadocious bars and clear-eyed observations about life on the streets. The 19-year-old artist built buzz with a successful college tour, turning up the heat with singles like “Lap Dance,” “NaNaNa,” “Fake Love,” and “Different,” a collaboration with YSL-affiliated rapper Yak Gotti. He’s earned praise from UPROXX and Dummy Mag, and told his story in an interview with Dirty-Glove Bastard. Earlier this year, Chino shared  F*CC It BaCC To The BasiCs, a new mixtape that finds Chino rhyming over instrumentals from all eras, including samples of songs by Moneybagg Yo, Usher, and more.

    The Background:

Chino Cappin is a lyricist and singer of many hats. First and foremost, he’s the voice of the streets, with a background in the slums that has given him the creative drive to progress in the packed hip-hop industry. But in addition to his rough and gruff image, he’s a fun-loving goofball, intense creative, and mastermind of charisma. With co-signs from No Jumper and the UK’s Dummy Mag, it’s clear many people from around the world have begun to tune in to hear what Chino’s been saying and continues to say. To date, Chino has amassed over 1.1 million streams, 900,000+ views, and an Instagram following of 28k+. These are authentic, consistent numbers that reveal a fanbase genuinely attracted to Chino in all capacities. His impact can be attributed to his authentic approach to rap and, surprisingly, his process of making music which is a unique take on two well-tested methods. He typically looks to select beats that evoke emotion and then lay down melodies and write to them. However, he also enjoys going off the top with whatever he’s feeling in the moment as well.

  • Press Release

Watch King Von’s “Demon,” the Latest Welcome To O-Block Video

    8.9.2021

    Video: King Von – “Demon”

    The Video:

King Von was one of his generation’s finest storytellers, vividly capturing episodes of his eventful life with passion and attention-to-detail. Today, on what would’ve been the artist’s 27th birthday, Von’s family and team share the video for Demon,” based on an idea and treatment written by the artist himself. Produced by the late artist’s frequent collaborator Chopsquad DJ, “Demon” is an emotional and melodic highlight from Welcome To O-Block, as Von details his pre-fame life, pays tribute to his crew, and gracefully carrying the responsibility of representing his block everywhere he goes.

Directed by Joan Pabon and premiered by BET, the video depicts many of the situations Von depicts in the lyrics, from police encounters to tragic events in the streets. During his lifetime, Von always had a major role in the visual element of his music–the clip for “Demon” ends with a recording of Von describing in detail his vision for the video.

“Demon” is the fourth video to be released from Welcome To O-Block since King Von tragically passed in November. Earlier this year, Von’s estate shared “Armed & Dangerous,” which calls back to Von’s experiences in prison and shows how the lessons he learned inside shaped his worldview, as well as “Mine Too,” an aspirational anthem, and in late 2020, the estate shared the video for “Wayne’s Story,” which was Von’s favorite of his music videos. King Von appeared posthumously on several tracks on Loyal Bros, a new compilation tape by Only The Family, the label started by Von’s close friend Lil Durk.

    Long Live King Von.

Paper Route EMPIRE’s Snupe Bandz Shines in Video for “Remember”

    8.9.2021

Video: Paper Route EMPIRE & Snupe Bandz – “Remember

The Rising Memphis Rapper Reminisces About His Past in the Latest Video from PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi

    The Video:

With an enthusiastic co-sign from Young Dolph, Memphis rapper Snupe Bandz is looking to be the next Paper Route EMPIRE rapper to hit the big time. Today, the rising artist shares the video for Remember,” a solo showcase from the Paper Route EMPIRE compilation PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi. With a mournful, piano-led instrumental from BugBangin, “Remember” is a reflective turn from Snupe, who reflects on his modest origins and compares them to his flex-heavy present–he’s gone from relying on dice games for income to making bank every day from his music. In the video, directed by Young Dolph’s visual venture Paper Route Pictures, Snupe returns to his home projects with his newfound status, rocking his PRE chain as he interacts with the locals and traces over his old graffiti with fresh paint.

“Remmeber” is the second video of the week from Snupe Bandz, following the video for  Bandaid,” featuring his PRE labelmate Key Glock. Both videos hail from PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi, Paper Route EMPIRE’s first-ever compilation mixtape. The mixtape represents the culmination of a long and fruitful rise for Young Dolph–the mogul is ready to flex his A&R and CEO muscles, bringing a new crop of talent to the forefront. Featuring an appearance from Gucci Mane and production from Bandplay, Memphis beatmakers like Tay KeithDJ Squeeky, and Sosa808, ands trap titans like Drumma Boy and Budda BlessPAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi is available to stream everywhere via Paper Route EMPIRE.

Slimelife Shawty uses his knack for conversational melody and raw lyricism to create some of Atlanta’s most effecting trap music. His new single, Slatt Bizness,” brims with the street wisdom for which he’s known. Rhyming over a bed of rippling pianos, wailing guitars, and upbeat percussion, Slimelife describes a motto to live by, explaining how he gets far by minding his own business and following his creative muse, never needing any input from others: “I’m way past ridin’ the wave, they been tryna ride the wave/N****, I’m tryna create an ocean.” In the video, directed by ShotByWolf, Slimelife and his crew bond in Miami Beach, as they shoot hoops, eat Cuban cuisine, try to capture a rogue iguana, and interact with locals in the city streets. “Slatt Bizness” is the 22-year-old rapper’s first single since the poignant “Baby Boy,” which has over 1.5 million YouTube views since its release in May.

Slimelife Shawty is currently preparing his next project Better Livin, due to release later this year. The Atlanta native recently showed off his performance chops, performing his most notable songs at Rolling Loud Miami in July.

With a knack for emotional honesty that earned him a co-sign from heavy-hitters like Young ThugLil Baby, and Lil Durk, who gifted him the OTF chain that he wears in the “Slatt Bizness” video, Slimelife Shawty is looking to level up with his upcoming project. 8.5.2021

Video: Slimelife Shawty – “Slatt Bizness

The Alamo Records Signee Pays Tribute to the Friends That Hold Him Down

    Critical Praise:

“Atlanta rapper Slimelife Shawty has been building his catalog over the last couple of years, earning attention from Young Thug, Lil Durk, Lil Baby, and more. Associating himself with several of the city’s strongest forces, it’s not hard to see why he’s been rising so quickly. The budding star is seemingly one project away from being recognized as one of Atlanta’s top talents.” – HotNewHipHop

“Slimelife Shawty became a staple of Atlanta’s bubbling underground after appearing on early Lil Keed standouts like ‘Blicky Blicky’ in 2018. Since then, he’s been moving with remarkable consistency, gaining traction with anthemic songs like ‘Don’t Worry.'” – DJ Booth

Charismatic “Coochie Man” YN Jay Shares “Slow Motion” Video

  • Press Release

Charismatic “Coochie Man” YN Jay Shares “Slow Motion” Video

    8.5.2021

Video: YN Jay – “Slow Motion”

The Beecher, MI Native Takes Us to His Hometown in His Nostalgic Coochie Chronicles Video

    The Video:

Tearing up the internet with his raunchy rhymes and wild ad-libs, few rappers today have the charisma of YN Jay. Returning to his hometown of Beecher, MI for his latest video, YN Jay shares Slow Motion.” Produced by Michigan rap sound architect Marc Boomin, “Slow Motion” complements Jay’s punchlines with looks back into his past life on the streets of Beecher: “Stoppin’ at my granny crib, lookin’ at my granny crib/Like goddamn, this where we used to live/Probably in my pop’s Cadillac, that’s where we used to chill.” The video returns YN Jay back to the streets on which he grew up–the camera zooms in on the street sign for Stem Lane, where he used to “ride through the Buick”–contrasting his current life as a rap star with his humble origins. “Slow Motion” is the latest video from Coochie Chronicles, Jay’s latest project, following last month’s release of “Triple S Remix” ft. Coi Leray.

With the help of innovative Flint-area producers like ENRGY and Marc Boomin–who combine wavy melodies with thudding 808s–Jay ushers listeners into his sex-crazed mind, wielding a slip-sliding, start-stopping flow as he unleashes a torrent of punchlines and outrageous boasts.

With the new Coochie Chronicles, and much more music on the way, YN Jay is looking to take his distinct strain of Michigan rap to national prominence.

  • Press Release

Cats, Babies, & Vietnamese Techno Highlight the Week in TikTok Music

    8.04.2021

TikTok Treats, Week of August 2nd

    The News:

Each week, the TikTok Treats newsletter gives a snapshot of the state of music on TikTok, touching on trending hits, emerging artists, superstar moves, ascendant memes, and much more. As TikTok becomes a source of music discovery for more and more users, the songs that trend on TikTok become more esoteric–and the chances of an unconventional hit bubbling up from the platform grows. This week, plenty of unlikely songs trended on the platform next to major hits like Lil Nas X’s “Industry Baby” and  Doja Cat’s “Woman.” Take a look at some of the songs that TikTok helped elevate in recent days and weeks:

    • Anyone who’s been on TikTok during the past month has heard the popping percussion and buzzing synths of “The Magic Bomb,” a song by Vietnamese electronic musician Hoàng Read. The song is the center of a trend that combines a viral dance and screen text, in which creators do the dance as they answer a series of questions they “always get asked”in quick succession. With nearly three million video creations to date, song provides an opportunity for creators to clear the air without disrupting the rest of their content, or offer up facts that many people don’t know, and provides marginalized groups an opportunity to make their voices heard.
    • Mixing carefree flutes with a danceable disco beat, Van McCoy’s instantly recognizable “The Hustle” was one of the biggest hits of 1975. 46 years later, the song is making a major comeback on TikTok–with over 580k video creations and growing–as it provides the soundtrack for a trend that highlights the app’s new photo-cropping function. Creators attempt to insert themselves (or their baby or their pet) into the constantly-moving crop tool. The cheerful flutes of “The Hustle” are the perfect foil for the awkward images that result from the more-difficult-than-it-looks trend.
    • Puerto Rican superstar Farruko has been trending on TikTok with his new single “PEPAS,” a banger that bridges the gap between Reggaetón and EDM. The song is a favored party anthem for the app’s Spanish-speaking contingent, inspiring over 367k videos, driven by multiple trends. One trend combines a dance with text on screen, similar to the “Magic Bomb” trend, as creators ask three questions and insist that their commenters are only allowed to say no to one of them (this particular challenge has caught the eye of prominent Latin influencers like @aliizquierdo and @carlosferiaag). The second trend uses the song’s massive beat drop to showcase the highlights from a night out, often incorporating a pair of sunglasses with a symbol or message written on them. On his own page, Farruko did his part to make sure the song popped, filming himself vibing to the song’s build in a dimly-lit limo.
    • Ever since the advent of memes, cats–keyboard, grumpy, nyan, or otherwise–have been the official mascots of the internet. In recent weeks, TikTok’s massive contingent of cat lovers have coalesced around an unlikely song: “FVN!,” an upbeat electro-rap track from nonbinary Spanish rapper LVL1. Inspired by LVL1’s tongue-twisting delivery of variations of the line “cat kitty cat,” creators have filmed their pets getting down to the music, splicing in quick edits of their feline friends in unflattering poses. The 23-year-old artist’s breakout hit’s TikTok success (over 318k video creations) is currently sitting at #2 on Spotify’s U.S. Viral 50, and has over 3 million streams to date.
    • The Fast And The Furious franchise already inspired a trend earlier in the form of Don Omar’s “Bandoleros,” and now, the film’s “quarter-mile at a time” ethos is bringing another song to TikTok prominence–popular underground rapper Xavier Wülf’s “Tokyo Drift.” With over 885k video creations to date, the fast-paced song has become a go-to option for creators with the need for speed, whether they’re beating Google Maps’ ETA estimate, trying to steer a soapbox race car, or innovating a new form of transportation. Like all TIkTok trends, this one has also been used to show off cute babies and cats.

Today, one of TikTok’s favorite feel-good music stories from this year got a new chapter. Songwriting duo Barlow & Bear, Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, announced the September 10, 2021 release of their highly-anticipated concept album, The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical. Consisting of 15 original songs, The Unofficial Bridgerton Musical concept album is the culmination of Barlow & Bear’s artistic vision to bring their unanticipated viral sensation directly to their fans in its entirety.

Originally written and composed by Barlow & Bear live on TikTok and other social media beginning in January 2021, their songs and performances have attracted a massive international fanbase, receiving over 2 million followers, over 36 million likes on TikTok, and the #bridgertonmusical hashtag approaching 200 million views to date. Since the TikTok debut of the first track “Ocean Away,” originally titled “Daphne’s Song,” the duo has broken new ground by involving their audience in their process every step of the way via social media, and will be mirroring this direct-to-consumer distribution by self-releasing the album on all major streaming and downloading music services.

PRE Young Guns Key Glock & Snupe Bandz Share “Bandaid” Video

    8.3.2021

Video: Paper Route EMPIRE, Key Glock & Snupe Bandz – “Bandaid

The Two Memphis Rappers Need Help Counting All Their Cash in the Latest Video From PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi

    The Video:

With a roster packed with rising talent, Young Dolph‘s Paper Route EMPIRE is the premier independent rap label in the South. Today, two of the label’s fieriest signees, Key Glock and Snupe Bandz, join forces to share Bandaid,” a brand new music video. Produced by Bandplay, PRE’s one-man band, with assistance from CLDHRT, “Bandaid” is an ominous banger with horror movie melodies providing the perfect ambience for Glock and Snupe to boast about their extravagant ends: “Thirty on my wrist, another fifty on my chain,” spits Snupe, and not to be out done, Glock announces “this n**** got a watch that costs a quarter mill’.”

The video is a low-key illustration of how Snupe and Glock, like all real G’s, move in silence–they trap out in a modest house before taking their lady friends to their much less modest whips. Released as the rapper celebrates his 24th birthday, “Bandaid” is Glock’s second video in two weeks, following the flex-heavy Mister Glock 2,” which has over 2.2 million views in just four days.

“Bandaid” is the latest video from PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi, Paper Route EMPIRE’s first-ever compilation mixtape. The mixtape represents the culmination of a long and fruitful rise for Young Dolph–the mogul is ready to flex his A&R and CEO muscles, bringing a new crop of talent to the forefront.

Baja Beach Fest Releases Covid Safety Protocol Ahead of Next Week’s Event

  • Press Release

Baja Beach Fest Releases Covid Safety Protocol Ahead of Next Week’s Event

    8.3.2021

Baja Beach Fest Raises the Bar of COVID Safety, Releasing COVID Safety Protocol Ahead of BBF 2021

All Attendees and Artists Will Be Required to Show Proof of Vaccination or Negative Test to Enter the Festival

Bringing Some of the Biggest Names in Latin Music and Reggaeton, the Third Baja Beach Fest Occurs on August 13-15th and August 20-22nd in Rosarito Beach, MX

    The Announcement:

Baja Beach Fest is committed to making the festival experience as safe as possible for all of its guests, artists, and staff. Today, Baja Beach Fest 2021 raises the bar for music festival safety, announcing a protocol that ensures all persons coming to the festival will show proof of vaccination or provide a negative Covid test. In order to make the testing process as seamless as possible, BBF is exclusively partnering with COVID Clinic ensuring that all health statements are verified by a single, trusted source.

Using a stricter and more accurate policy than many of its competitors, Baja Beach Fest will require guests to show proof of vaccine or a negative test before entering the festival. Using the festival app, attendees can register their health information and activate their Baja Beach Fest 2021 wristband. Wristbands for Baja Beach Fest will not be valid without registration of the negative Covid test, or confirmation of vaccination. 90% of those guests who have already registered their wristbands have been fully vaccinated against the virus.

The easiest way to enter Baja Beach Fest 2021 is to be fully vaccinated–vaccinated attendees can activate their wristband right now using their proof of vaccine. Each guest who is not fully vaccinated will need to get tested within 72-hours of the event at a COVID Clinic location. They have over 100 locations across the United States, and will provide testing centers in Rosarito and Tijuana for last minute tests in the days preceding the festival. COVID Clinic will also have a testing location on site at the festival, for those who are unable to get tested prior. BBF’s partnership with COVID Clinic provides festival guests a discounted rapid test price of $49 and allows for integration with the Clinic’s testing database and the festival’s RFID wristband. Masks are required and mandatory for entrance.

Ticket holders who test positive will not be allowed to attend the festival this year, but with proof of a positive test, Baja Beach Fest will provide a refund or the opportunity to save the passes for Baja Beach Fest 2022.

The Covid safety protocol does not only apply to guests–the performing artists and the members of their crew will be subject to the same protocols. All Baja Beach Fest staff and crew are fully vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus.

“We’ve been working with every state and city department to make sure that Baja Beach Fest is as safe as possible,” say BBF founders Aaron Ampudia and Chris Den Uijl. “We’re excited to show the world that live music can come back in a way people can feel comfortable with. We’re taking these necessary precautions so we can all enjoy live music while keeping the fans, the artists, and the people from Baja safe.”

The first weekend of Baja Beach Fest 2021 occurs on August 13-15th, 2021 and the second weekend happens the following weekend on August 20th-22nd in Rosarito Beach, MX. Baja Beach Fest 2021 promises headlining performances Anuel AAJ BalvinOzuna, and Karol G, and a high-powered undercard with performances from SechFarrukoBecky GJhay Cortez, and many more. Fans are raring to lace up their swimsuits and experience the beachside vibe that virtual festivals can’t hope to replicate. Young Dolph & PRE Share PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATI Label Mixtape, Drop Key Glock’s “Mister Glock 2” Video

    7.30.2021

Young Dolph Shares PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi, a Compilation Mixtape That Showcases the Talent of the Paper Route EMPIRE Roster

PRE’s Key Glock Gets His Flex On in “Mister Glock 2” Video

The Tape Features Contributions From Dolph, Glock, Big Moochie Grape, and Kenny Muney, As Well as Recent Signees like Snupe Bandz, PaperRoute Woo, Joddy Badass, and More

    The Mixtape:

Young Dolph has an exquisite ear for talent, and he’s assembled young and hungry roster of rising rappers for his Paper Route EMPIRE label. Today, Dolph and the rest of PRE share PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi, the label’s first-ever compilation mixtape. The mixtape represents the culmination of a long and fruitful rise for Young Dolph–the mogul is ready to flex his A&R and CEO muscles, bringing a new crop of talent to the forefront. Armed with Dolph’s sage advice and artistic guidance, Paper Route iLLUMINATi features contributions from the label’s large and growing roster, with new songs by red hot riser Key Glock, Memphis street favorites like Big Moochie Grape and Kenny Muney, and new signees like Snupe Bandz and PaperRoute Woo. The 23-track tape leaves plenty of room for the newer signees to shine, providing solo showcases for artists like the New York-born Joddy Badass, and the fiery Big Uncc, and allows big shots like Dolph, Glock, and Moochie to show off on solo songs of their own.

“I’ve signed a lot of new artists, all of them have serious raw talent,” says Young Dolph. “I can’t wait for the world to see what they can do. We hear the fans–they want new music from PRE, especially from the artists we signed during the pandemic, so we’re gonna give it to them in one project. I might be the CEO, but on this project, we’re all equals. They’re the drivers, I’m in the passenger seat.”

The album features a guest appearance from Gucci Mane, whose 1017 label helped inspire Dolph’s vision when he founded PRE in 2010, the Atlanta rapper trading bars with Key Glock on mixtape highlight “I Do This.” PRE-signed sound architect Bandplay puts his stamp on the mixtape’s bass-heavy sound, producing several tracks, but PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATI also features contributions from local beatmakers like Tay KeithDJ Squeeky, and Sosa808, as well as trap titans like Drumma Boy and Budda BlessPAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi is home to recent singles like last week’s Blu Boyz,” an expert three-man weave by Young Dolph, Key Glock, and Snupe Bandz, and “Nothing To Me,” a Dolph, Snupe, and PaperRoute Woo collaboration with a high-flying music video.

“There are three rules for being in the PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi,” says Dolph. “Rule number one: get the money first. Rule number two: don’t forget to get the money. How do you make that money? You can’t make money without making sacrifices.”

Along with the mixtape, Paper Route EMPIRE shares Mister Glock 2,” a new video single by Key Glock. Produced by Bandplay, the man behind many of Glock’s best bangers, “Mister Glock 2” is a statement of purpose, as Glock allows himself to re-introduce himself between bounding 808s, ominous vox, and plinking treble synths. The sequel to Mr. Glock” (8 million YouTube views), a highlight from Glock’s Billboard Top 20-peaking Yellow Tape (2020), the song finds Glock adding to his growing list of nicknames as he loudly and proudly proclaims his artistic independence: “B*tch, I’m Mr. Flex-A-Lot, young Mr. Stack-It-‘Til-It Drop/Yeah Mr. Don’t-Care-What-It-Cost, yeah Mr. Let-That-Choppa-Talk.” In the video, directed by Dolph’s new visual venture Paper Route Pictures, Glock kicks back in his Maybach with some homies, including Snupe Bandz,  showing off his stacks and smoking with his Bart Simpson chain.

Offset Jim Runs Plays with Kenny Beats in “Face Card” Video

Offset Jim Runs Plays with Kenny Beats in “Face Card” Video

    7.30.2021

Video: Offset Jim – “Face Card” ft. Kenny Beats

The Play Runners Association Rapper Plans an Oakland Heist in His Latest Video

    Critical Praise:

“Offset Jim’s music feels current in the sense that it’s vital, loose, and alive, but it also feels totally unswayed by the creative winds of the moment. From production to slang to wobbling beats with stuttering drums, it’s aggressively, audaciously Oakland.” – Vulture

“Offset Jim keeps his voice low-key and contained, and somehow that makes his sh*t slap all the harder.” – Stereogum

“Jim prefers his deadpan snarl, firing off boasts and threats like poisonous darts… You’re probably not going to miss anything, but you’ll still want to run it back.” – Passion of the Weiss

    The Video:

Offset Jim is respected in Oakland and beyond for his deadpan demeanor that belies his slangy, flex-heavy lyrics. Connecting with versatile producer Kenny Beats for a low-key Bay Area banger, Jim shares Face Card,” his new video single. Marked by Kenny’s ominous pianos, stuttering 808s, and subterranean bass, “Face Card” finds Jim bolstering his hustler credentials, spinning low-key yarns about smuggling illicit goods across state lines and using the proceeds to treat his girl to a nice dinner. Directed by StackingMemories, the video depicts Offset Jim and Kenny Beats in workman’s jumpsuits, as they pull up in a Brinks truck and count “all these goddamn hunnids.”

A member of Play Runners Association, along with close friend and fellow Oakland heavy-hitter ALLBLACK, Offset Jim has stood out in a crowded Bay Area rap scene. He made a splash in 2019 with two projects–his solo effort No Pressure, which featured the local hit title track (over 3.3 million combined plays on Spotify and YouTube), and 22nd Ways, his collab mixtape with ALLBLACK, home to Bay Area favorites “Trip On It” (over 7 million Spotify streams) and “Fees” ft. Capolow. Offset Jim is a favorite collaborator of many on the West Coast scene, with tracks on the books with G-EazyNef The PharaohShootergang KonyBravo The Bagchaser, and more.

With a project in the works for the fall, Offset Jim is looking to raise his profile from local hero to national concern. Stay tuned.

Morray and Polo G Connect for Powerful “Trenches” (Remix) Video

  • Press Release

Morray and Polo G Connect for Powerful “Trenches” (Remix) Video

    7.30.2021

Video: Morray – “Trenches” (Remix) ft. Polo G

Fresh Off His First-Ever Performance at Rolling Loud, the 2021 XXL Freshman Recruits a Kindred Spirit to Add a Verse to a Street Sermons Highlight

    Critical Praise:

“‘Trenches,’ from an album due next week titled Street Sermons, rides the minor chords and trap beats that often accompany antisocial boasts. But while ‘Trenches’ doesn’t ignore gangs, drugs or poverty, Morray also recognizes a community that holds families, neighbors and friends” – The New York Times

“Few crooning rappers have his polish, resonance, and soul.” – SPIN

“With only four songs on streaming platforms—all released in 2020—Fayetteville, North Carolina rapper Morray has already proven he’s a hitmaker. His debut single “Quicksand” is undeniable, anchored by the type of hook you get from a Roddy Ricch or Rod Wave song and infused with storytelling and charisma to paint a picture even if you’re unfamiliar with the newcomer.” – Pigeons & Planes

    The Video:

Morray‘s emotional singing and empathetic lyrics make him an ideal avatar for those struggling in the streets, and an excellent role model for those looking to make it out. His song “Trenches” is an ode to people who think they are out of options, urging them to stay positive through the pain. Today, the Fayetteville, NC native shares “Trenches” (Remix), which adds a verse from Polo G, another street storyteller whose lyrics speak for the less fortunate. The new remix juxtaposes Morray’s gospel-influenced passion with Polo’s plaintive and conversational melodies, the younger rapper spinning a succinct 16 about his rise from tragedy to triumph: “‘Member I was f*cked up, now my foreign in the hood parked/You can beat the system if you street and booksmart,” intones Polo G.

Directed by Justice Silvera, the video follows the story of a man who works hard every day to put food on his family’s plates, resisting the clarion call of street life so he can be present for his wife and young daughter. Morray and Polo G provide the perspective of those who’ve escaped their past hardship, but their lyrics prove that men like the video’s protagonist deserve just as much respect as any rap star. “Trenches” (Remix) is the latest in a long line of quality videos from Morray, most recently the video for  Mistakes,” a highlight from his debut album Street Sermons.

Debuting at  #41 on the Billboard 200 and propelling Morray to #1 on Billboard’s Emerging Artists chartStreet Sermons taps into the spiritual uplift and church-trained singing that makes Morray’s brand of hip-hop so unique, taking unflinching looks at the Fayetteville native’s youthful struggles and indiscretions and examining his motivations to succeed. Home to his breakout single Quicksand,” which recently earned a GOLD certification from the RIAA and surpassed the 100 million view milestone on YouTube, the project contains universal truths about the tragedies and triumphs of growing up in the hood, filtered through Morray’s experience as a neighborhood kid made good. Complex ranked Street Sermons at #10 on their list of Best Albums of 2021 So Far.

Earlier this summer, Morray earned a position on the coveted XXL Freshman list for 2021. The honor is the latest in a long line of accolades, including one to watch” designations from ComplexBillboardSPINPigeons & Planes, and many more. An engaging live performer, as evidenced by his recent appearance on JImmy Kimmel Live, Morray was highlighted by Rolling Stone as the “Best Debut” performer at last weekend’s Rolling Loud Festival in Miami.

With Street Sermons and his newfound position as a XXL Freshman, Morray culminates his meteoric rise and proves that he’s ready to build an artistic legacy and a nest egg for his wife and kids. For an artist with Morray’s talent, the sky is the limit.
