Comethazine Announces Comethazine The Album, a New Album Arriving October 22nd via Alamo Records
Comethazine Orchestrates a Bank Heist in the Video for “Six Flags“
Comethazine Continues His Reign of Rap Game Terror in Latest Video Single from the Upcoming Comethazine The Album
Critical Praise:
“The rapper has become the viral face of the trap scene.” – OFFICE Mag
“The video for Comethazine’s ‘Walk’ currently sits at 33 million views, solidifying the nightmarishly hyper-violent track as bonafide hit of SoundCloud rap.” – The FADER
“Comethazine has established himself was one of hip-hop’s rising stars—amassing a solid fan base and co-signs from the likes of Rich the Kid and ASAP Rocky.” – COMPLEX
“St. Louis teen Comethazine gave rap a shot, and got millions of streams in return. As his December 2017 video ‘Piped Up’ inches closer to 3 million views, it seems the young rapper made the right choice to leave the regular nine-to-five life behind” –XXL
“Comethazine is one of the most buzzing artists in the hip-hop world” – HotNewHipHop
The Announcement:
Comethazine has established a unique lane for himself as one of hip-hop’s most bellicose enigmas, spitting unmistakable cadences over hard-biting trap instrumentals in his signature, macabre aesthetic. Continuing his streak of combative sounds, the St. Louis native prepares for Comethazine The Album, his new album is set to release this Friday, October 22nd via Alamo Records. At 18 tracks in length, Comethazine The Album continues his stream of full-length projects with no features or big-name producers, bolstering his reputation as a lone wolf within the industry. Last month, Comethazine further proved the strength of his lone vision with the music video for “Spinback,” the first single from Comethazine The Album, which he shot, directed, conceptualized, and edited himself. Few can pull that status off, but Comethazine masters it.
Today, Comethazine shares “Six Flags,” a new music video from the upcoming album. Unlike the park referenced in the title, Comethazine makes it crystal clear that he’s not here for anyone’s amusement in this track. Pulling no punches over the track’s two minute runtime, Comethazine states plainly the differences between himself and the world: “All my n****s gangbang, Comethazine been did that/I don’t need no gang, I bust your brain independent.” Directed by JMP, the video follows a bare-faced Comethazine leading a gang of masked gunmen into a bank heist. Reminiscent of the opening scene of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight, the visual perfectly capture’s the track’s urgent hostility of Comethazine’s barking braggadocio over the dramatic orchestral strings looped throughout.
Comethazine The Album is the first full-length release from Comethazine since October 2020’s Bawskee 4. The Bawskee series stands out as a highlight in the past half-decade of SoundCloud rap, generating streams in the hundreds of millions and earning RIAA Platinum and Gold certifications for his singles, “Walk“ and “Bands,” respectively. Earlier this year, Comethazine gave the first glimpse of his video vision when he released the self-directed clip for “Malcolm In The Middle,” which has over 2.9 million views on YouTube.
Stay tuned for more information about Comethazine’s upcoming Comethazine The Album, coming soon via Alamo Records.
Born Frank Childress in 1998, East St. Louis-native Comethazine was a lean-loving high-school dropout. Influenced by Nipsey Hussle, Odd Future, Lil B, and Chief Keef, he started rapping in 2015. He soon discovered that his initial output was not as well received as party-oriented cloud rap, so he switched angles and scored a pair of local underground hits with “Run It” and “Hella Choppers.” The Aloe Vera EP landed in 2016, which resulted in a late-2017 deal with Alamo Records. A slew of short singles followed, including “Deathwish,” “Piped Up,” “Oowee,” and “Hero.” “Bands” became a viral hit, landing on his first full-length, Bawskee, which debuted on the Billboard 200 upon its release in 2018.
Known for his heartfelt lyrics and addictive melodies, Slimelife Shawty stands out among the rest in the Atlanta hip hop scene. Showing a side of him that shouldn’t be played with, Slimelife shares “Freestyle,” a new Diesel Filmz-directed video. The video features Slimelife spray painting inside of an old warehouse and on the clothing of a hostage he has taken as he spits fire on the trap beat. Flashing his Nike Dunks, Slimelife closes out the song with a message to his enemies, “Middle fingers up, I ain’t throwin’ no peace sign / F*** them boys for life.” Always ending up on top, Slimelife proves that he will take what he wants by any means necessary.
Last week, Slimelife Shawty dropped his Lil-Durk executive produced album, Better Living. The new full-length is home to several popular singles that have been tearing up the ATL in recent months. Slime clamored for the recognition he deserved in the emotional “Where’s The Love,” declared his undying loyalty to his crew in the powerful “Slatt Bizness” (1.5 million YouTube views), celebrated his rise from rags to riches in the determined “Baby Boy” (2.2 million views), and declared his intentions to take over the game in the “No Brakes” (2.7 million views). Featuring appearances from Future,Jackboy, and Nardo Wick, Better Living is available everywhere via Alamo Records.
In the run-up to Better Living, the follow-up to last year’s No Slime Left Behind, Slime’s Alamo Records debut, Slimelife shared the 42 Dugg-featuring remix to “Don’t Worry (Clappers),” his biggest hit to date with over 15 million streams across platforms. Slimelife signee showed off his performance chops this summer, performing an electrifying set at Rolling LoudMiami in July. Slimelife just finished up the “Back Outside Tour” with Lil Baby and Lil Durk, where he performed songs from Better Living and other hits like last year’s “All Summer.”
With a knack for emotional honesty that earned him co-signs from heavy-hitters like Young Thug, Lil Baby, and Lil Durk, who gifted him an Only The Family chain, Slimelife Shawty is ready to reach the next level. With Better Living, Slime proves that he has the chops to be the next melodic rapper to explode out of the A.
Slimelife Shawty is one of the most promising young voices out of Atlanta, Georgia. Inspired by hometown hero, Young Thug, the 21-year-old has found success with his Southern-twanged, pain-stained lyrics paired with melodic undertones. In 2018, Shawty assisted Lil Keed’s “Blicky Blicky,” which erupted in the Atlanta streets and drew attention to the rising lyricist. Boasting cosigns from the likes of Thug, Keed and YNW JGreen, Shawty stepped confidently into more solo success. In 2019, with his 12-track EP, 100 Reasons, and songs like “Bankroll” and “40 Bars, he amplified his smooth wordplay and shares his story with the world. Fueled by his street hit “Clappers,” Slimelife continues to gain recognition for his undeniable talent and rise to unprecedented heights. His latest project, No Slime Left Behind, came out in May 2020.
The Alamo Records Signee Lets His Fans Know That He’s Untouchable In The Latest Visual From His Better Living Project, Executive Produced by Lil Durk
Critical Praise:
“Atlanta rapper Slimelife Shawty has been building his catalog over the last couple of years, earning attention from Young Thug, Lil Durk, Lil Baby, and more. Associating himself with several of the city’s strongest forces, it’s not hard to see why he’s been rising so quickly. The budding star is seemingly one project away from being recognized as one of Atlanta’s top talents.” – HotNewHipHop
“Slimelife Shawty became a staple of Atlanta’s bubbling underground after appearing on early Lil Keed standouts like ‘Blicky Blicky’ in 2018. Since then, he’s been moving with remarkable consistency, gaining traction with anthemic songs like ‘Don’t Worry.'” – DJ Booth

“The song is a great little banger, stripped-down and catchy, with a synth riff that reminds me of some of the best club-rap of the early-’00s.” – Stereogum
“Smoko Ono is responsible for a lot of the beats coming out of Chicago in recent years.” – Complex
The Song:
An essential producer behind present day Chicago hip hop, Smoko Ono has the ability to intertwine his city’s traditional sounds with those of the future. With the help of Yxng Bane, Chance The Rapper, and Joey Purp, Smoko Ono shares the new visual for “Winners.” The song has a true dancehall feel to it, bolstered by smooth, Afrobeats-inspired drum patterns and bouncing synths providing the ideal canvas for the two Chitown heroes to deliver their verses. Crossing the Atlantic ocean to London with his Chitown crew, Smoko and the dudes post up with Yxng Bane on his home turf, moving around the city, and hanging out the side of their van. Through incorporating elements like a fish-eye lens, the video creates the feeling of watching a vlog about Smoko and his friends while they do some light shopping and dig in on a prominent restaurant city. Making sure to stop by KISS FM UK to promote their new single, the four artists bring their short trip to a halt by finding some time to participate in London’s nightlife.
The video for “Winners” arrives as the song continues to make waves in the streaming world. Currently, “Winners” sits at #1 on Apple Music’s The New Chicago playlist, has received over 1.5 million streams on Spotify to date, and has been recognized by high profile publications including Billboard, Complex, and Pitchfork. “Winners” is Smoko Ono’s second star-studded new single of the year, following “You Are” ft. Corinne Bailey Rae &UMI, which released in May. A song about loving someone with the totality of your being, “You Are” is drenched in reverb, offering ringing guitars–played by multi-Platinum artist Daniel Caesar–and sumptuous bass perfectly suited for headphone listening. “You Are” earned praise from Billboard, UPROXX, Earmilk, and more. Both featuring cover art from Nikko Washington, “Winners” and “You Are” are available to stream via Payday Records, and will both appear on Smoko’s upcoming debut solo album, due to release in Q1 2022.
A frequent collaborator with the likes of Chance The Rapper and Vic Mensa, Smoko Ono has a sterling reputation in Chicago and beyond for his production prowess. He’s produced tracks featuring some of music’s biggest stars, including Kanye West, DaBaby, Megan Thee Stallion, Ty Dolla $ign, Cordae, and many more. Earlier this year, Smoko produced “All Pride Aside,” a song by Shelley fka DRAM featuring Summer Walker. The prolific producer is hard at work on his star-studded upcoming album, which will be his first album since the critically acclaimed Very Slight, a collaborative project with Chicago rapper KAMI that generated over 12 million streams across platforms.
Stay tuned for much more from Smoko Ono in the rest of the year.
Smoko Ono’s production is an integral part of the sound of contemporary Chicago hip hop. A long-time collaborator of Chance the Rapper, Smoko had four placements on Chance’s debut album The Big Day including the off-cycle single “I Might Need Security,” and “Hot Shower” Ft DaBaby and MadeinTYO. As one of Vic Mensa’s main producers, Smoko produced tracks including “U Mad ft. Kanye West, “Liquor Locker ft. Ty Dolla Sign and “Feel That,” and produced on “Broke As F*ck” on YBN Cordae’s Grammy nominated album The Lost Boy. Smoko has upcoming releases with SG Lewis and more.
In 2018 Smoko released his collaborative album Very Slight with KAMI, which featured verses from Chance the Rapper, Joey Purp, and Valee, the project has received over 12M streams in the US alone. Smoko’s commercial work includes a Nike Super Bowl commercial, Puma, Tao, and has DJ’d Complexcon, Soho House, Poppy, The Marquee, and events like Kehlani’s after party. Additionally, Smoko has produced songs for Megan Thee Stallion, Denzel Curry, Yung Bans, YNW Melly, and is working with Francis and the Lights, Yxng Bane, Lil Yachty, Shelley fka DRAM, and more.

Relaunched by Ultra Music founder and hip-hop and electronic pioneer Patrick Moxey.
Video: Rucci & AzChike – “After Party” ft. Haiti Babii
The LA natives team up with Haiti Babii for a late night celebration in the latest video from their first-ever collaborative album Kourtesy Of Us
Critical Praise:
“On the spectrum of the new Los Angeles, Rucci sits closest to classicism, capturing the spirit of greats like Suga Free and Mack 10. But don’t mistake that homage for predictability: Rucci consumes these beats. His presence throughout this album is glowing, outsized, and even within the frames of L.A. bump — minor keys, minimal bass — he makes daring production choices. (“Lowrider” interpolates, you know, that song). But beneath the booming production and drug inventories that run rampant on Tako’s Son are stories of deep loss and chosen family” – NPR
“Rucci is one of the few young and buzzing West Coast rappers capable of pleasing both emcee traditionalists and those seeking true starpower and hit-making potential… Inglewood’s chosen son is on his way to stardom.” – HYPEBEAST
“He’s become equally adept at writing fun party slappers and ferocious pain rap dirges, gangsta rap indebted to history but hounded by the demons of the present.” – The LAnd
“He has the dexterity to spit about street life in L.A. in a way that doesn’t romanticize its harsh realities, while still remaining loose enough to pivot from those heavy topics to raps about his Instagram DMs blowing up (“How you text me off that app but you blocked?”).” – Pitchfork
“Time is of the essence for AzChike. Since 2013, the 24-year old has tried to make every moment count. Prior to being known for his storytelling abilities and bops like “Burn Rubber Again” and “Licked Up,” the rapper, who has drawn comparisons to mid-2000s Lil Wayne and 2019 XXL Freshman Blueface, began his career as a what he describes as a conscious rapper. Once he shifted gears (and quit his day job), however, he really started to get the party jumping.” – XXL
“Central L.A. rapper AzChike specializes in making songs that rattle your trunk.” – The FADER
The Album:
Tearing up the block with their street stories and function anthems, Rucci & AzChike are a match made in L.A. Rap heaven. For the latest music video from their first-ever collaborative album Kourtesy of Us, Chike and Rucci connected with Haiti Babii for the music video for album highlight “After Party.” The track is more a celebration of the California natives’ come ups than what one might expect from a song titled “After Party.” With the trio rapping in unison, “Just be yourself my n**** / Just focus on your wealth, my n****,” to close out the song, “After Party” is for raising a glass to the ones that have been along for the ride. In the Stacking Memories directed video, Rucci, Chike and Haiti Babii host a low-key studio after party with LA baddies and their closest associates.
Joining forces for their first-ever collaborative album, Chike and Rucci released Kourtesy Of Us on Friday, October 8th via Mackk&Cult / EMPIRE. The 21-track album is home to recent singles like the slinking, piano-laden “My N****s,” and the gleefully inappropriate “Hoodrat,” featuring a guest spot from Boosie BadAzz. Packed with production from maestros like Cypress Moreno, AceTheFace, Hitman, Rob Vicious, Bruce24k, and more, Kourtesy Of Us is an expansive survey of West Coast sounds, from the dramatic bass & piano lusciousness of “No Time,” to the swirling synths and insistent 808s of “Get Back Gang,” the pizzicato strut of “Fasho Poppin,” and the luxurious electric keys of “Thug P*ssy.” Throughout, Chike and Rucci remain quotable, ping-ponging verses as they demonstrate why they’re among their city’s elite. Rucci attacks the beat with a breakneck, snapping flow, while Chike’s oblique delivery finds hidden pockets in instrumentals, helping his disrespectful punchlines stand out. Featuring appearances from Kamaiyah, Boosie Badazz, Haiti Babii, Capolow, Kalan.FrFr, and many more, Kourtesy Of Us is available everywhere via Mackk&Cult/EMPIRE.
Prior to Kourtesy Of Us, Rucci and AzChike hit the streets with a line of fiery collaborations, built over a number of years. The two rappers connected with Capolow for “No Kizzy,” a Bay-meets-L.A. banger, took aim at steppers on “Who Dat,” and earlier, they honed their chemistry with the rip-roaring “Pop Pills.” They’re renowned in the streets of L.A. for creating multiple local hits, most notably 2020’s “Function In The Hood” and 2018’s “Light It Up.” Both artists are continuing the momentum from big 2020s–Rucci continued to explore his fascinating backstory with the Midget album, featuring the hit single “Understand” ft. Blxst, and AzChike kept busy with hard-hitting EPs and collaborations with the likes of Sada Baby and Frostydasnowmann.
Finally joining forces for the joint album that L.A. needs, Rucci and AzChike happily gifted their fans and their city with a new set of slaps. Join AzChike and Rucci at the official Kourtesy Of Us release show at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles on November 14th: https://www.axs.com/events/414195/rucci-x-azchike-tickets
EMPIRE was founded in 2010 as an artist-friendly, progressive digital distribution company. After early success, and identifying future icons such as Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, and Rich Homie Quan, EMPIRE was quickly regarded as a tastemaker in the industry and throughout the past five years evolved into a full-fledged record label, distributor and publisher for independent musicians. With the company and roster growing at a breakneck pace, EMPIRE has effectively disrupted a stale business model by bringing its energy, expertise, and acumen to its artists and labels. Today, EMPIRE works with some of music’s hottest talent, ranging from superstars such as T.I. and Snoop Dogg, red-hot newcomers such as SOB X RBE and Mozzy, and established veterans like Jim Jones and Redman. While remaining 100% independent, EMPIRE has also partnered with Atlantic Records for a joint venture, home to breakout star D.R.A.M. and propelled singles by Fat Joe & Remy Ma (“All The Way Up,” 2x Platinum), Tyga (“Taste,” 3x Platinum), and Lil Duval (“Smile”) to the top of the Billboard Hip-Hop Charts. In April 2018, EMPIRE signed a global distribution deal with Universal Music Group for select artist projects.
The Prolific and Popular Underground Rapper Connects with a Producer Signed to His TeamSESH Label, Crafting a 13-Track Effort Inspired by the Dark Edges of the Early Digital Era
Critical Praise:
“The Michigan-born rapper was one of the earliest and most influential artists to rise through the SoundCloud ranks in the early 2010s thanks to a truly unique aesthetic, an aura of mystery and a sound that would go on to be mimicked by his genre for years to come.” – HYPEBEAST
‘Already one of the most influential artists in rap and the SoundCloud underground, Bones shows no signs of slowing down.” – HYPEBEAST
“O’Connor’s short tracks, creepy videos, and one-word tweets rack up millions of social media interactions from a cult following that helped him sell out shows in 25 cities on a recent tour. The hip-hop elite is taking notice.” – The FADER
“Elmo Kennedy O’Connor was in pre-school when he became obsessed with the Southern artists of No Limit and Cash Money. Later in life, he would adopt the rap moniker Bones and amass a significant cult following. His gothic lyrical style, allergy to songs longer than two and a half minutes, and lo-fi visual aesthetic have convinced a quarter million people to subscribe to the SoundCloud page of his rap collective, TeamSESH.” – HotNewHipHop
The Album:
Restlessly creative with a massive and growing catalogue, underground rapper BONES inhabits his own musical universe. Connecting with cat soup, one of his TeamSESH producers for a 13-track new effort, BONES shares ForbiddenImage. Over the past week, the Michigan native has been teasing the album on Instagram, posting a series of videos (created and animated by cat soup) that put an eerie twist on early computer games like Myst and RuneScape. Produced in full by cat soup, the project takes sonic inspiration from that early digital aesthetic. Comprised of 6 instrumentals and 7 vocal tracks, on which BONES alternates between his locked-in spitting and compelling singing, ForbiddenImage is available now via TeamSESH/EMPIRE.
ForbiddenImage is not the first time that BONES has teamed up with fellow TeamSESH member and producer, cat soup. The two underground artists have been bouncing beats off of one another since early 2015 when BONES appeared on cat soup’s track, “it’s just a few.” Since then, the two have found inspiration in the company of one another, resulting in multiple singles as well as two albums: Slán in 2016 and Augmented in 2018. Similar to his TeamSESH founder, cat soup has a desire to constantly experiment and cannot be put into one category. His beats include sounds that range from vintage synth percussion to flute-infused melodies. Die hard TeamSESH fans know that ForbiddenImage will not be the last collaboration from BONES and cat soup.
ForbiddenImage is the prolific BONES’s fourth album of 2021. It immediately follows InLovingMemory, released in July, a dark and personal album that featured the recent single “WhiteBoyRick.” In March, BONES released PushingUpDaisies, a full-length collaborative album produced by TeamSESH producer Deergod. Featuring the single “PopRocks,” which earned praise from Stereogum, the album thrives on the impeccable chemistry between producer and rapper. Earlier this year, BONES shared hisBURDEN album and released albums recorded under the moniker surrenderdorothy onto DSPs for the first time ever.
With ForbiddenImage, BONES continues to revel in his status as an underground king, and takes the time to show off the talents of a valued collaborator to a bigger audience. Though four albums is more than many artists release in an entire career, don’t be surprised if BONES blesses the world with a fifth album later this year.
BONES has proven to be one of the most enduring, influential, and creative hip-hop artists to emerge in the early 2010s. The TeamSESH founder has recorded dozens of albums, racking up hundreds of millions of streams and feeding a fanbase that eagerly awaits his every move. Despite remaining fiercely independent and true to his underground roots, his music has permeated the mainstream–in 2015, A$AP Rocky sampled BONES’ song “Dirt” for “Canal St.” (124 million streams), and in recent years, BONES has performed in prime slots at festivals such as Rolling Loud as a member of Seshollowaterboyz (along with Xavier Wülf, Chris Travis, and Eddy Baker).

Meet @TheBeatles: the Fab Four brings their music to TikTok
The News:
Nearly 60 years after scoring their first-ever number one hit, The Beatles hold a special place in the hearts of music listeners across the globe. This #Rocktober, TikTok announces that the Fab Four have officially joined TikTok, bringing dozens of their most-beloved songs with them. Fans on TikTok will be able to follow @TheBeatles, an account dedicated to the towering legacy of John, Paul, George, and Ringo.
The Beatles’ foray onto TikTok arrives in conjunction with the global release of the Let It Be album’s remixed and expanded Special Edition by Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe. Keep an eye on @TheBeatles for exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the Let It Be sessions (the subject of Get Back, a forthcoming Peter Jackson-directed documentary coming to Disney+ this Thanksgiving weekend: November 25, 26 and 27), along with deep dives into the creation of individual songs, featuring interviews with Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr.
For the first time ever, creators will be able to soundtrack their videos with 36 of the most iconic songs from music’s most beloved catalog. The Let It Be album’s 12 songs are now available as soundtracks for videos, including legendary hits like “Get Back,” “Across The Universe,” and the ever-staggering title track, along with cuts like the John & Paul-duet “I’ve Got A Feeling” and the George Harrison-penned “I Me Mine,” the last song The Beatles ever finished as a group.
In addition to the songs from Let It Be, The Beatles have provided all of their No. 1 U.S. and UK hits for creators to use as officially-licensed TikTok sounds. The 27 songs range from 1962’s “Love Me Do” to 1970’s “The Long and Winding Road,” capturing a snapshot of the band as they evolved from pop phenomenon to studio innovators to cultural legends. TikTok creators will be able to express affection for their special someone with “I Want To Hold Your Hand” and “Something” (and, well, several other of the greatest rock & roll love songs ever recorded), weep along with “Eleanor Rigby,” and rock out to jams like “Day Tripper,” “Paperback Writer,” and their biggest-ever hit “Hey Jude.”
John Lennon’s solo catalog was launched on TikTok last October to celebrate his 80th birthday. Paul McCartney joined TikTok last December to help celebrate the release of his new album McCartney III, and he’s been an amiable and jocular presence on the platform ever since. This past July, Ringo Starr joined TikTok as part of his annual #PeaceandLove birthday celebration. George Harrison’s solo catalog was launched in August, celebrating the release of his acclaimed All Things Must Pass album in a special 50th Anniversary Edition.
The arrival of The Beatles signals the beginning of #Rocktober, a month-long celebration of rock musicians on TikTok and the towering figures that paved the way for them.
Let us “Come Together” to celebrate the presence of The Beatles on TikTok. Use the tag “#TheBeatles” to share a video soundtracked by your favorite of the newly-arrived tracks, and follow @TheBeatles for even more.
Recently Hailed as a “Best New Artist” by Pigeons & Planes, My Favorite Color Flexes His Pen Game in an Aggressive and Atonal Banger
Critical Praise:
“Best New Artist for September 2021: It’s clear My Favorite Color is okay not taking himself too seriously and letting the music speak for itself.” = Pigeons & Planes
“The Pittsburgh MC once again flashes signs of brilliance on his new song ‘Old News.’ His zany personality and frenetic flow are the main drivers of his fun-filled anthem.”
– Billboard
“He truly brings you on a sonic journey that contains so many different styles, sounds, and narratives, you have no choice but to pay attention.”
– Lyrical Lemonade
“His music is powerful. Each bar drips with the confusion and existential dread of a man who feels out of place in his world.” – Noisey
The Song:
Acclaimed for his malleable flows and witty pen game, My Favorite Color specializes in a strain of rap music that’s somehow both ignorant and erudite. Sending a blaring message aimed squarely at anyone who hasn’t yet recognized his titanic talent, MFC shares “Mayday,” a new single. Blessed with an unconventional instrumental that mixes saxophone bleats, white noise, and a hummable keyboard turnaround, MFC paints over the beat like Jackson Pollock, gleefully switching up cadences and contorting his voice into cartoon-like shapes. Lyrically, MFC has fun mixing party-positive flexes with tongue-twisting geopolitical analysis: “I ain’t f*ckin’ with no socialism, communism, chauvinism/Quit votin’ for the puppets, n****, don’t nobody give a f*ck so f*ck it, n****a.”
The latest glimpse of his upcoming project, due early next year, “Mayday” finds My Favorite Color in a rarified spot–he’s confident enough in his abilities to experiment with his craft and to have fun while doing it. “Mayday” immediately follows “Old News,” a bouncy, lyrical banger that takes the time to emphasize why the L.A.-via-Pittsburgh artist is different from your favorite rapper, complete with a hilarious music video where MFC plays multiple parts a la Eddie Murphy. In the wake of “Old News,” My Favorite Color was named one of the Best New Artists of September 2021 by Pigeons & Planes.
Signed to Rostrum Records, the label that broke Pittsburgh legends like Mac Miller and Wiz Khalifa, My Favorite Color looks to follow in their footsteps as the next artist from the Steel City to make it big. “Old News” heralds a return for the L.A.-via-Pittsburgh artist, who is working on his follow-up to Velma, his ambitious debut album. A tour through the Rostrum Records signee’s inventive mind and finely-tuned aesthetic, Velma is a revealing and relatable album–listening feels like catching up with an old friend about his life. On songs like the lead single “Funeral,” My Favorite Color contemplates complex questions about faith, mortality, music, and love. Acclaimed by DJ Booth, KAZI, and more,Velma is available everywherevia Rostrum Records.
Stay tuned for much more music and eye-popping videos from My Favorite Color in the coming weeks and months.
The Red Hot Memphis Rapper Connects with Pyrex Whippa for the Latest Speaker-Knocking Single From Yellow Tape 2, Coming Soon via Paper Route EMPIRE
The Song:
It might seem like he exaggerates the extent of his flyness, but Key Glock only traffics in cold hard facts. Channeling Paul Pierce as he pulls up from center court, Key Glock shares “Da Truth,” his latest single. Produced by rising trap sound architect Pyrex Whippa, “Da Truth” mixes entrancingly atmospheric keys with a relentless subwoofer assault. Sitting firmly in the pocket as he cuts through the beat’s ample negative space, Glock works a nursery rhyme-like cadence as he aims to silence those who doubt he’s one of the South’s best emcees: “Roses are red, violets are blue/I put money over b*tches, I don’t know bout you.” “Da Truth” is the latest flex-heavy banger to emerge in the lead-up to Yellow Tape 2, Key’s next album, following the chaotic, Tay Keith-produced “Ambition For Cash.“
The follow-up to 2020’s Yellow Tape, which peaked at #16 on the Billboard 200 and featured fan favorite songs like “Dough,” ‘Word on the Streets,” and “Look At They Face,“Yellow Tape 2 finds the 24-year-old artist refining his style, unleashing tighter flows, delivering cleverer punchlines, and giving even fewer f*cks. Blessed with production from an A-List of sound architects including Tennessee legends Tay Keith (Memphis), Juicy J (Memphis), and Bandplay (Nashville), plus heavy-hitters from across the rap spectrum like Sosa 808, Budda Bless, and more, the upcoming project finds Glock once again demonstrating why he’s one of the most respected lyricists in his city. The latest step in Glock’s fast rise to stardom, Yellow Tape 2 arrives later this fall via Paper Route EMPIRE.
The upcoming Yellow Tape 2 continues a busy year for Glock, as he’s spent time collaborating with his Paper Route EMPIRE associates. Earlier this year, he connected with his label boss and frequent sparring partner Young Dolph for Dum And Dummer 2, their second full-length collaborative album. Debuting at #8 on the Billboard 200, Dum & Dummer 2 generated nearly 36k sales equivalent units across platforms and scored the fifth-biggest streaming debut on Spotify during its first week of release. Earlier this month, the album received a glowing review from Pitchfork, who awarded the album a 7.5 score and cemented Young Dolph & Key Glock as a “once-in-a-generation” rap duo, akin to 8Ball & MJG or Method Man & Redman, and “one of the most in-sync alliances in the genre today.” Dum & Dummer 2 is the duo’s second Top 10 album, following the original Dum and Dummer, which also debuted at #8 in 2019. Glock also made multiple appearances on PAPER ROUTE iLLUMINATi, the first-ever label compilation tape by Paper Route EMPIRE. Along with collaborating with fellow PRE signees like Snupe Bandz on “Blu Boyz” and “Bandaid” and Paper Route Woo on “Big Ol Racks,” Glock connected with Gucci Mane for project highlight “I Do This.“
Flashing His Mastery of the Deadpan Flex, Offset Jim’s 9-Track New Album Features Guest Spots from EST Gee, Aitch, Babyface Ray, and His Close Compadre ALLBLACK
Critical Praise:
“Offset Jim’s music feels current in the sense that it’s vital, loose, and alive, but it also feels totally unswayed by the creative winds of the moment. From production to slang to wobbling beats with stuttering drums, it’s aggressively, audaciously Oakland.” – Vulture
“Offset Jim keeps his voice low-key and contained, and somehow that makes his sh*t slap all the harder.” – Stereogum
“Jim prefers his deadpan snarl, firing off boasts and threats like poisonous darts… You’re probably not going to miss anything, but you’ll still want to run it back.” – Passion of the Weiss
The Album:
Bursting out of the Bay with an understated flow that belies his voracious appetite for flexing, Offset Jim is a man of refined tastes. Coming through with an expertly curated series of songs, the Oakland rapper shares Rich Off The Pack, his new album. A 9-track hustler’s manifesto, Rich Off The Pack is Jim’s most expansive effort to date, blending the sounds of his hometown with voices from around the globe. Detail-oriented and methodical, Offset Jim provides a master class of money-getting in his laid-back bangers, his blasé demeanor giving the impression that he’s slowly revealing the keys to surviving and thriving in the streets. Rich Off The Pack benefits from Jim’s brilliant beat selection–the lion’s share of the album’s production comes from DTB, a Bay Area producer who specializes in glistening keys and mob-style bass, but it also features a supremely ominous beat from Kenny Beats on the lead single “Face Card.“
The album’s list of features indicates the broad support for Jim across multiple regions of the rap game. Jim’s fellow Play Runners Association rapper ALLBLACK shows up on “Stepping On N****s,“ a gleefully aggressive back-and-forth between two close friends and frequent collaborators. Rich Off The Pack rolls out the carpet for EST Gee on “Off White Mikes” and Babyface Ray on recent single “Make No Sense,” both guests jibing with Jim’s straightforward plug talk. In the album’s most unexpected collaboration, Jim goes toe-to-toe with Manchester, England native Aitch in the cross-continental dealer’s anthem “Chinese K,” which dropped earlier this week. The latest step in Offset Jim’s journey to becoming the Bay’s next self-made star, Rich Off The Pack is available everywhere via Play Runners Association/EMPIRE.
Since emerging alongside ALLBLACK in 2018 and 2019, Offset Jim has stood out in a crowded Bay Area rap scene. A native of a neighborhood in Oakland known as the Murder Dubs, Jim made a splash in 2019 with two projects–his solo effort No Pressure, which featured the local hit title track (over 3 million combined plays on Spotify and YouTube), and 22nd Ways, his collab mixtape with ALLBLACK, home to Bay Area favorites “Trip On It” (over 7 million Spotify streams) and “Fees” ft. Capolow. Offset Jim is a favorite collaborator of many on the West Coast scene, with tracks on the books with G-Eazy, Nef The Pharaoh, Shootergang Kony, Bravo The Bagchaser, and more. With Rich Off The Pack hitting the digital airwaves, Jim looks to raise his profile from local hero to national concern.
Creators Propel Iván Cornejo To Hot 100, Insane Clown Posse Builds Anticipation For Halloween and The Bee Gees, Riko Rose, and RealestK Spark New Trends
The News:
Each week, the TikTok Treats newsletter gives a snapshot of the state of music on TikTok, touching on trending hits, emerging artists, superstar moves, ascendant memes, and much more. Check out some of the most popular tracks and trends that are soaring on the platform, featuring songs that range from horrorcore hip-hop, nü-disco, and regional Mexican music:
The TikTok community never misses an opportunity to proudly show off the ones they love. In recent weeks, Mexican singer Iván Cornejo’s “Está Dañada” (945.5K creations) has taken off on the app and is soundtracking creators’ displays of affection. Inspired by the lyrics of the infectious chorus, creators have been showing off what they love about their loved ones, from their significant others to their adorable daughters. On the other hand, some creators have been using the sound to express some much needed self-love while others comically express their hope that someone will admire them for this heartfelt trend. Teasing the track on his own page in August and again in September, Iván Cornejo has been able to help push the song to skyrocket to virality. After going viral on TikTok in recent weeks, “Está Dañada” debuted at #7 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs, #96 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, and #181 on the Global 200 ranking. It became the second regional Mexican hit ever on the Hot 100 chart.
The TikTok community has been at the forefront of the drill music boom, helping propel hits like CJ’s “Whoopty,” Dusty Locane’’s “ROLLIN N CONTROLLIN,” and several songs by the late Pop Smoke to the charts. Rhode Island rapper Riko Rose has the latest drill song that TikTok can’t get enough of– he’s making a splash on the platform with his breakout song, “Whistle.” Combining the signature elements of drill with a catchy whistle melody, Riko’s song boasts 38.7K+ creations to date. In most creations, users attempt to catch each beat of the hook using the freeze frame photo filter and show off their sturdy footwork skills. “Whistle” also soundtracks creators’ cooking tutorials, lip syncing videos, and local restaurant reviews.
As it nears the end of October, TikTok creators are more than ready to celebrate the fast-approaching Halloween holiday. A play on the classic “Cha Cha Slide,” Insane Clown Posse’s 2009 horrorcore hit “Chop Chop Slide” has amassed over 1.1M creations and supplied members of the TikTok community a way to demonstrate their creativity and show spooky season spirit. While some creators showcase their breathtaking makeup and costume skills, others are taking to the sound to flaunt their amazing painting skills. Some creators are even trying to convince themselves they stand by what they said in their risky text message, because there’s not many things more spooky than sending a possibly ill-advised text.
TikTok has continued to build a reputation for having the power to revive hits and give them new lives. The Bee Gees’ disco track “More Than A Woman” is a recent example of this phenomenon, as SG Lewis’ Paradise Edit of the track is making waves on the app. Though the original track is already a mainstay in the realm of disco, SG Lewis’ bubbly remix has rejuvenated the track on the app and garnered over 274.4K creations. The sound is perfect for best friend lookalikes who have the same taste in men, photographer friends who enjoy doing DIY projects together, and groups of friends who are eager to participate in the dance trend started by @isayuuhh.
#Rocktober is almost here and TikTok’s array of exciting surprises for the rock music celebration are yet to come. Stay tuned for TikTok’s biggest #Rocktober to date.
The Respected Oakland Rapper Connects With One of the UK’s Finest on a Zane Lowe-Endorsed New Banger From His Rich Off The Pack Project, Dropping Friday 10/15

“Jim prefers his deadpan snarl, firing off boasts and threats like poisonous darts… You’re probably not going to miss anything, but you’ll still want to run it back.” – Passion of the Weiss
The Announcement:
Offset Jim has the streets of Oakland on lock, but his deadpan demeanor transcends international borders. Connecting with a famous fan for his latest single, Jim shares “Chinese K,” a new banger. The new song features an appearance from Aitch, a star in his native UK. A seemingly unlikely duo, Jim and Aitch connected when the Aitch tagged Jim in an Instagram story of him rapping Jim’s hit “No Pressure” word-for-word. “Chinese K” lives firmly in Offset Jim’s sonic realm, with a propulsive and bass-heavy, mob-influenced DTB beat that encourages both rappers to bounce their smack talk off one another: “Smoke blunts big as little n****s/Dior to the floor, you in Hilfiger,” spits Jim, and Aitch retorts, “From the Bay to the UK we got a shipment/Broski in the trap, but sh*t, he run it like a business.” “Chinese K” is the latest glimpse at Rich Off The Pack, Jim’s upcoming album, following “Make No Sense,” a collaboration with Babyface Ray.
A 9-track hustler’s manifesto, Rich Off The Pack is Jim’s most expansive effort, and the latest step in his journey to becoming the Bay’s next self-made star. A detail-oriented and methodical rapper, Offset Jim’s songs are a master class in money-getting, his low tone and blasé demeanor giving the impression that he’s divulging secrets that provide the key to solving the struggles of street life. The album’s list of features indicates the broad support for Jim across multiple regions of the rap game–Jim’s close friend ALLBLACK makes an appearance, but the artist also rolls out the red carpet for Louisville’s EST Gee, Detroit’s Babyface Ray, and Kenny Beats, who provides the ominous instrumental for the buzzing single “Face Card.” Currently available for pre-save/pre-order Rich Off The Pack arrives on October 15th via Play Runners Association/EMPIRE.
A member of Play RunnersAssociation, along with close friend ALLBLACK, Offset Jim has stood out in a crowded Bay Area rap scene. With Rich Off The Pack coming soon, Offset Jim is looking to raise his profile from local hero to national concern.

Associating himself with several of the city’s strongest forces, it’s not hard to see why he’s been rising so quickly.

The 20-Year-Old Rapper/Singer Enjoys a Party with Casamigos and Red Cups in the Video For His Latest Rap-N-B Jam
Critical Praise:
“It seems Chino Cappin’ has found his own lane, and he performs best when he puts his impressive voice to use.” – HotNewHipHop
“He explores his relationships with his loved ones on the deeply personal track” – UPROXX
“Dirty South influences and driving top lines set Chino Cappin apart” – Dummy Mag
The Video:
Rising out of Georgia’s busy music scene with his silky smooth pipes, Chino Cappin splits the difference between hard-nosed trap and romantic R&B. Presenting himself at his most seductive, the 20-year-old Georgia native shares “Til The Morning,” a sultry new slow jam. Skating atop wah-wah-ing guitars and swelling keyboards, Chino spins an explicit bedroom jam, using the raspy edges of his voice to work an in-the-pocket cadence that slides between the song’s 808s. In the video, Chino presides over a bustling house party, as he pours Casamigos tequila and dances with beautiful women. Available to view on YouTube, “Til The Morning” is the latest video to follow in the wake of Ladders, Chino’s new project, out now via Alamo Records.
Home to recent videos like the Willie Hutch-sampling “Money On My Mind” and the playful “Still Loading,“Ladders drips with the bravado of a man confident in his abilities, like on the recent single, “Hot Sh*t” ft. Metro Marrs, but also demonstrates the maturity necessary to describe complex relationship scenarios with relatable lyrics. Ladders is home to highlights like the aspirational “Shine,“ and the sultry break-up anthem “Fake Love.” Chino explores new dimensions of his character on introspective songs like “Feelings” and romantic tracks like “Sunshine.” Imbued with Chino’s deep love of music and his gratitude for escaping out the mud on the back of his talent, Ladders finds the Alamo Records-signed artist as he’s ready to explode out of his hometown in rural Georgia and draw new connections between rap and R&B on a national scale. Featuring an appearance from 1017’s Enchanting, Ladders is available to stream everywhere via Alamo Records.
Born and raised in Fort Valley, Georgia, just outside of Atlanta, Chino focused on music as a teenager as a way to escape his rough circumstances. The rapper built a cult following in the Southeast with mixtapes like Cold Hearted and Too Many Losses, which combined strong melodic instincts with braggadocious bars and clear-eyed observations about life on the streets. The then-teenaged artist built buzz with a successful college tour, turning up the heat with singles like “Lap Dance,” “NaNaNa,” “Fake Love,” and “Different,” a collaboration with YSL-affiliated rapper Yak Gotti. He’s earned praise from UPROXX and Dummy Mag, and told his story in an interview with Dirty-Glove Bastard. Earlier this year, Chino shared F*CC It BaCC To The BasiCs, a new mixtape that finds Chino rhyming over instrumentals from all eras, including samples of songs by Moneybagg Yo, Usher, and more.
With Ladders, Chino shows what he’s capable of, as he declares his intentions to grow from local star to national name.
Ladders tracklist:
1. Still Loading
2. Money On My Mind
3. Lap Dance (Remix) ft. Enchanting
4. Love You Better
5. Hot Sh*t ft. Metro Marrs
6. I Thought They Told You
7. Sunshine
8. Fake Love
9. Feelings
10. Shine
Chino Cappin is a lyricist and singer of many hats. First and foremost, he’s the voice of the streets, with a background in the slums that has given him the creative drive to progress in the packed hip-hop industry. But in addition to his rough and gruff image, he’s a fun-loving goofball, intense creative, and mastermind of charisma. With co-signs from No Jumper and the UK’s Dummy Mag, it’s clear many people from around the world have begun to tune in to hear what Chino’s been saying and continues to say. To date, Chino has amassed over 1.1 million streams, 900,000+ views, and an Instagram following of 28k+. These are authentic, consistent numbers that reveal a fanbase genuinely attracted to Chino in all capacities. His impact can be attributed to his authentic approach to rap and, surprisingly, his process of making music which is a unique take on two well-tested methods. He typically looks to select beats that evoke emotion and then lay down melodies and write to them. However, he also enjoys going off the top with whatever he’s feeling in the moment as well.
Slimelife Shawty’s raw emotional honesty has won him the respect of the biggest names in rap. Ready to compile his pearls of street wisdom and loyalty anthems into a hard-hitting full-length, the ATL native announces Better Living, his forthcoming project. The 22-year-old native has a unique approach to song structure, following his melodic muse as he speaks directly from the soul, arriving at punchlines and hooks not when conventions demand, but when it feels natural. His unapologetic realness won him high-profile fans in the rap game, including Lil Durk, who executive-produced the project welcomed him into his Only The Family collective, and other A-listers like Future, who appear on the project to pay their respects. With additional appearances from Jackboy,Nardo Wick, and more, Better Living arrives on October 13th via Alamo Records.
Along with the official announcement of the album, Slime connects with his mentor Lil Durk to share “Suit Me Up.” Trading verses above dramatic keys and upbeat percussion, Slime and Durk answer the call of the streets, reminiscing about their rough-and-tumble pasts in their signature melodic styles. Using a tumbling and conversational flow that makes his confessions feel even more immediate, Slime explains how and why he’s determined to do it big for his neighborhood: “Momma I’m sorry but the streets took a part of me,” sings Slimelife on the hook. “Suit Me Up” is just the latest single to be released from Better Living, following the emotional “Where’s The Love,” the determined “Still At It,” the powerful “Slatt Bizness” (over 1.5 million views since its early August release), and the poignant “Baby Boy,” which has over 2.1 million YouTube views since its release in May.
Earlier this year, Slimelife shared the 42 Dugg-featuring remix to “Don’t Worry (Clappers),” his biggest hit to date with over 15 million streams across platforms. Last year, the Alamo Records signee released No Slime Left Behind, a full-length project, and made noise with his street hit “All Summer” (2.6 million YouTube views). Slimelife signee showed off his performance chops this summer, performing an electrifying set at Rolling LoudMiami in July. Slimelife is currently performing the “Back Outside Tour,” opening for Lil Baby and Lil Durk.
With a knack for emotional honesty that earned him co-signs from heavy-hitters like Young Thug, Lil Baby, and more, Slimelife Shawty is ready to reach the next level. With the upcoming Better Living, Slime proves that he has the chops to be the next melodic rapper to explode out of the A.
“Whether or not you realize it, this Puerto Rican rapper is one of the most popular artists in America right now.” – Vice
“Luckily, a few artists have taken on the task of ensuring [reggaeton’s] origins aren’t suppressed or forgotten. Farruko is one of the few at the forefront, doing so in the most overt fashion…Farruko, who has over a decade of experience in the music industry, has been a part of that time of reinvention for reggaeton, trap en español, and now reggae…Taking on the advice of the wise, Farruko more often than not says the least but does the most, pouring out his thoughts, emotions and vision for the future of Latin music into extended albums and tracks.” – Remezcla

Farruko Recruits Tiësto For the Latest Official Remix of His Global Hit “PEPAS”
The Multi-Platinum Puerto Rico Native’s New Album LA 167 Is Out Now via Sony Music Latin/Carbon Fiber Music
Currently Sitting at #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 and in the Top 5 of Spotify’s Global Top 50, the Chart-Topping “PEPAS” is One of the Biggest Latin Crossover Hits of the Year
The Announcement:
A multi-talented artist with a track record of success across multiple genres, Farruko never stops experimenting. Today, the multi-Platinum singer-songwriter shares the latest remix to his global hit “PEPAS,” with assistance from Tiësto, the world renowned DJ. The second official remix of the chart-topping smash, “PEPAS” (Tiësto Remix) boosts the tempo of the already-energetic track, adding elements of trance that complement the song’s signature synth line while still keeping the rise-and-fall dynamics that make “PEPAS” such a crowd-pleaser. Tiësto’s version of “PEPAS” is the second official remix of the song, following a club-ready remix produced by superstar DJ David Guetta.
The remix is just the latest highlight in the song’s road to world-conquering success. “PEPAS” landed Farruko the #1 spot on Billboard’s “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs” (8 weeks at #1), “Hot Latin Songs” “Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales,” “Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs,” and “Latin Digital Song Sales” charts. Listed at #29 on the Billboard Hot 100, the track currently ranks at #5 on Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart, with over 311 million total streams, surpassing 2.9 million daily streams. Earlier this week, Farruko made his late night TV debut, performing “PEPAS” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“PEPAS” is featured on LA 167, the two-time Latin GRAMMY award winner’s brand new album. Named after the main highway that runs through his hometown of Bayamón, PR, the project finds the global chart-topping reggaetonero further defying industry standards — creating an eclectic ambiance fit for various subcultures and genres. Intentionally crafted to honor the intersections of the culture of Bayamon and the legacy of his late grandfather, the album displays a Farruko that is nostalgic, festive, vulnerable, and proud. The 25-track album’s expansive sound incorporates nostalgic perreo beats, weaves in the “pilita” or EDM trends popularized in the neighboring country of the Dominican Republic, and his traditional love for Jamaica’s reggae—all while remaining loyal to his grittier influences like his trap, drill, and reggaeton essence.
Last night, Farruko celebrated the release of LA 167, and its success, in Miami, recreating his beloved late grandfather’s service station on Puerto Rico’s 167 Highway. The event included cars on display from Farruko’s own collection and replicas of the mural that still lives in that location in Puerto Rico. The platinum-selling artist took to the stage and gave event attendees an unforgettable performance noting how happy he is with the release of this very personal album. In addition, Sony Music Latin and Carbon Fiber Music awarded Farruko with plaques commemorating “PEPAS” global success with certifications in the following countries: Argentina Platinum, CAC Platinum + Gold, Chile Platinum, Colombia Platinum, Mexico Platinum, Peru 2X Platinum, Spain 3X Platinum, Switzerland Gold, Italy Gold, Netherlands Gold and USA 8X Platinum.

Along with “PEPAS,” LA 167 is home to “La Tóxica,” which debuted in the top 10 of Billboard’s “Latin Digital Song Sales” list and in the top 15 of “Hot Latin Songs, it peaked at no. 1 in 9 countries, #1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs and Latin Streaming Songs, and scored him a 2021 Latin GRAMMY® nomination in the “Best Reggaeton Performance” category. Last week, Farruko shared the festive video for EDM-inflected banger “El Incomprendido,” which interpolates the 1999 eurodance classic “Better Off Alone” by Alice Deejay and generated over 9 million YouTube views in just its first week. The album features a new collaboration with Pedro Capó, who connected with Farru in 2019 for the 25x Platinum hit “Calma,” Farru’s fellow Bayamón native Ñengo Flow, and additional appearances from Myke Towers, Jay Wheeler, Brray, Secreto, Noriel, Luar, White Star, India Martinez, Lenier, and Jamaican dancehall singer Mavado.
Characterized as a definitive artist of his generation of Latin musicians, Farruko illustrates his natural approach to both commercial and rooted styles with LA 167. This November he will kick off his first US Tour making stops in 15 cities. He recently made history selling out Puerto Rico’s renowned Coliseo arena during a presale for 2 nights for his upcoming homecoming shows of “LA 167 Tour.”

Respected Bronx Spitter Don Q Announces Double Or Nothing, His Next Mixtape, Out October 22nd
The Highbridge The Label Rapper Plots a Years-Long Reign in His “True King” Video
The Artist’s First Solo Full-Length Since 2018’s Don Season 2, the Double Or Nothing Project, Builds A Bridge Between NYC’s Tough-Talking Past and Its Drill-Heavy Present
Critical Praise:
“He’s tough, funny, powerful, and completely in control. In addition, every once in a while he’ll throw in a line that will completely change the mood and make things somber (such as his note that at his young age, he’s “been to more funerals than graduations”), before ramping back up into the energetic rhymes.” – Complex
“Don Q Is The New York Rap Hardass We Need…Don Q has one of those deep, grizzled voices that communicate a whole lot just through their grain and texture.” – Stereogum
The Announcement:
Known for his bruising tough-talk and his sharp lyrical mind, Bronx rapper Don Q is highly-respected in the Five Boroughs and beyond. Laying all his cards on the table with his new statement of purpose, Don Q announces Double Or Nothing, his next project. Charting his progression from upstart to young OG, Don’s upcoming project is packed with hard-earned wisdom he picked up on the streets and in the music game. Influenced by mob movies and the cinematic rap epics of NYC’s past, the new project finds the Highbridge The Label artist locks into each instrumental, organizing his Bronx tales and assonant internal rhymes into lockstep cadences. Musically, Double Or Nothing mixes a grimy old school NY sound–with ominous pianos, scuzzy snares, and whirring woodwinds–with the occasional dip into the sliding 808s and triplet flows that define the city’s ascendant drill scene. His first new full-length since the release of 2018’s Don Season 2, Double Or Nothing arrives on October 22nd via Highbridge The Label/EMPIRE.
Along with the announcement of Double Or Nothing, Don shares the video for “True King,” the project’s opening track. The song opens with dramatic sweeps of strings, and without drums, as Don provides the percussion with his triplet cadences and expert sense of rhythm. In his lyrics, Don Q reveals a ruler’s mindset, lapping up his life of luxury even as he processes residual trauma from his past and constantly keeps his head on a swivel in search of the next threat to his reign: “I take my emotions and bottle them in/I never focus on following trends/When I was broke I thought soon as I made me some dollars I swear that my problems would end.” Directed by Starr Mazi, the video finds Don holding court in the outskirts of the Bronx, surrounded by tricked-out ATVs, dirtbikes popping wheelies, and a pack of bulldogs, a breed whose dogged determination provides an ideal analogy for Don Q’s refusal to back down from any challenge.
Born and raised in The Bronx, Don Q grew up idolizing brash NYC rappers like Jadakiss, Cassidy, Fabolous, and Jay-Z. After making waves in the streets with mixtapes that highlighted his lyrical acumen, Don Q signed to Highbridge in 2016. From there, Don and fellow Highbridge rapper A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie experienced a rapid rise through the NYC rap scene, sharing the popular Highbridge: The Takeover mixtape and gaining national recognition with a legendary Funk Flex freestyle. Don made his name as a vital solo artist in the NYC scene with mixtapes like Corner Stories, praised by Stereogum, and raised his profile even further with tapes like 2018’s Don Talk, featuring a guest spot from Pusha T, and the full-length Don Season 2, with features from Lil Durk, 50 Cent, Moneybagg Yo, and more.
Over the past couple of years, Don has been keeping busy with even more high-profile collaborations, recruiting Lil Uzi Vert and A Boogie for “Flood My Wrist” (over 42 million Spotify streams) and joining forces with Benny The Butcher for the Complex-praised single “Legends.” In 2021, Don has continued to feed his loyal fans, sampling a classic NY banger on his single “Law & Order” and reminding fans of his off-the-dome brilliance with his version of Drake’s “Lemon Pepper Freestyle” and recent appearance on Charlie Sloth’s Fire In The Booth session. Stay tuned for much more from Don Q in the build-up to Double Or Nothing.

Produced by hitmaker JetsonMade, who lends his signature trampoline 808s, “REROUT3” is a high-energy anthem, as the 22-year-old rapper skates atop blown-out synths with a melodic flow and an audible grin: “She like really fast cars, I went and bought me an Audi.” Dropping today at 6pm ET, the “REROUT3” video benefits from DC’s fondness for visual inventiveness, showing the rapper as he navigates a hall of mirrors, shakes his red dreads during a CGI thunderstorm, and dances by himself in front of a white background. The video is a direct follow-up to “WHAT NOW?“, which has over 1 million plays on SoundCloud after reaching #3 on SC’s New & Hot chart, and arrives in the wake of the boy-band-influenced “Notice Me,” the devilish “Megalodon” and The Sandlot-homaging “Ghost Rider.”
The Milwaukee-born rapper is coming off a successful 2020, marked by his debut album Come As You Are and its deluxe edition. With more than 90 million streams across platforms, Come As You Are emphasizes the importance of being authentic to your creative self. The album was home to DC’s buzzing single “WORST DAY : (“ (15 million total streams), as well as standout ragers like “Wait Your Turn,” “NASCAR RACER,” and “Campfire Story.” Featuring production from Supah Mario, Trademark, SephGotTheWaves, and more, Come As You Are (Deluxe) is available everywhere via Rostrum Records.
With his follow-up to Come As You Are–the ambitious concept album My Own Worst 3nemy–on the way, DC looks to make good on his potential and grow his fanbase even more. Stay tuned for much more music from the one-of-a-kind artist in the weeks to come.
DC The Don is a rapper from Milwaukee, WI. In 2016, at the age of 16 and standing 6’7”, DC moved to Los Angeles to pursue a basketball career under Lavar Ball and alongside teammate LaMelo Ball. During this time, he fell in love with music and used his spare time to make experimental records which suddenly gained traction – As the public became increasingly aware of DC The Don’s talent for rapping, NBA player Lonzo Ball featured his song “Everything 1k” on the first Big Baller Brand shoe commercial, introducing DC The Don’s music to an even wider audience. DC signed to Rostrum Records in 2020, releasing his debut album Come As You Are on August 7th, generating over 75 million streams across platforms.
Featuring Appearances From Kamaiyah, Boosie BadAzz, Kalan.FrFr, Haiti Babii, and More, Kourtesy Of Us Is the First Collaborative Album By the Duo Known For L.A. Hits like “Function In The Hood” and “Light It Up”
Critical Praise:
Rap heaven. Joining forces for their first-ever collaborative album, Chike and Rucci share Kourtesy Of Us, a 21-track project. Like any hall of fame-worthy duo, the interplay between Rucci and AzChike is a study in contrasts–Rucci attacks the beat with a breakneck, snapping flow, while Chike’s oblique delivery finds hidden pockets in instrumentals, helping his disrespectful punchlines stand out. They have their similarities as well: both rappers are fearless on the mic, willing to say absolutely anything, whether they’re stacking outrageous flexes, elucidating details of their chaotic pasts, or poking fun at fakes and lames.
The album is home to recent singles like the slinking, piano-laden “My N****s,” and the gleefully inappropriate “Hoodrat,” featuring a guest spot from Boosie BadAzz.
The Paper Route EMPIRE Builds a Team–Including PRE’s Own Snupe Bandz–and Plots a Heist at a Local Bank
The Video:
One of the hottest rising rappers in the South, Memphis native Key Glock has always had a passion for flashin’. Serving up a cinematic new visual, Glock shares “Ambition For Cash,” the official video to his popular new single. Produced by Memphis’s own Tay Keith, “Ambition For Cash” is a flute-laden banger with a beat that sounds like the soundtrack to a spaghetti western set in Bluff City and an ice cold verse from Glock: “Ten toes never in no hurry, n****, I call shots, you heard/Money talkin’ what’s the word.” In the video, Glock gathers a crew of neighborhood associates, including fellow Paper Route EMPIRE signee Snupe Bandz, and plots an elaborate heist at a local bank branch. Posing as customers, Glock and Snupe case the joint before the rest of the crew arrives in a candy-painted Donk to clean the place out. “Ambition For Cash” is the first single from Yellow Tape 2, Glock’s next project, coming soon.
ExpectYellow Tape 2 to arrive later this fall via Paper Route EMPIRE.
Along with collaborating with fellow PRE signees like Snupe Bandz on “Blu Boyz” and “Bandaid” and Paper Route Woo on “Big Ol Racks,” Glock connected with Gucci Mane for project highlight “I Do This.“
Stay tuned for more music and announcements from Key Glock in the coming weeks.
This Week, the TikTok Community Dances to Dembow, Obsesses Over Squid Game, and Reveals a Healthy Fear of “Teenagers”
The News:
Each week, the TikTok Treats newsletter gives a snapshot of the state of music on TikTok, touching on trending hits, emerging artists, superstar moves, ascendant memes, and much more. Take a look at the dembow anthems, K-Pop gems, and rising rap hits that have made an impact on the platform in recent weeks:
Coi Leray consistently shows love to the TikTok community, and the TikTok community consistently shows her love right back. Already seeing major success on the app this year with her catchy hit “No More Parties” (465.4K+ creations) and NSFW “Ocean Prime” (467.4K+ creations), a collaboration with Bfb Da Packman, the trendy rapper is making waves again with her new song “TWINNEM” (979.1K+ creations). The sound has sparked a comedic trend of duos acting out the words of the song’s organ-led hook with their “twin.” From real twins to the closest coworkers, TikTok creators are adamant in affirming that they love their best friends and have no desire for any new friends. Coi Leray has even been interacting with the sound on her own page, as she vibes to the song with her friends to show off the song’s lowkey, danceable feel.
The community of K-Pop lovers on TikTok is large and growing, and it looks like they’ve found themselves a new star to stan. A member of world famous pop group BLACKPINK, known on TikTok for hits like “How You Like That” (11 million video creations) and “Ice Cream” w/ Selena Gomez (1.5 million creations), 리사 (LISA) is making major waves on TikTok wihth “Money,” her second-ever solo single. With over 1 million video creations since its release last month, the knowingly materialistic banger is an ideal mood booster–a new trend finds creators exaggerating the song’s ability to raise serotonin levels with a new dance and animated facial expressions. The song received another jump in popularity after its use in the Netflix show Squid Game, inspiring poses, games, and make-up tutorials based on the mega-popular Korean show.
With its high-energy vocals and insistent percussion, Dominican dembow is one of the ascendant sub-genres of Latin music on TikTok. Following the earlier success of El Alfa’s “La Mamá de la Mamá” (over 1 million creations), the latest dembow hit to drive the community mad is “Linda” (over 200k video creations), a collaboration between Dominican Republic native Tokischa and Spanish superstar Rosalía. Driven by the song’s loping bassline and persistent handclaps, “Linda” has TikTok users attempting their best runway struts in multiple distinct trends. Some “Linda” lovers plant “besitos” on their close friends, while others finds pantomime Rosalía’s claps during a stunning transformation, while others still just wanna dance. Spurred in part by it’s TikTok success, “Linda” is gaining steam, reaching the Top 10 of Spotify’s U.S. Viral 50 chart and racking up over 20 million streams on the service.
Blurring the lines between indie pop and alternative music with his song “Life Goes On,” Oliver Tree and his eccentric energy have had a hold on the TikTok community in recent weeks. While one of the “Life Goes On” sounds has already amassed over 3.5M creations on the app, another two sounds for the same song have garnered over 2.1M creations and 942.K creations respectively. The song’s energy has brought out a sense of off-the-wall creativity in the TikTok community and is soundtracking all types of art, from intricate paintings and skateboard designs to the cutest cats carving fruit into hearts. The song’s success on the app helped catapult it to a top 10 position on Spotify’s Viral 50 chart. On his own TikTok, Oliver Tree has been using the song to highlight his confessions of NBA dreams and his intense Cheetos obsession.
There’s a niche for everyone on TikTok, and it’s no surprise that the platform’s aspiring fashionistas have found each other. The fashion-forward side of TikTok discovered “Mr. Put It On” (26K video creations), a new song by Houston rapper Guapo, inspiring a stylish trend that has swept through the app. Over a heavy bassline and dark piano chords, Guapo raps about how he looks fly in any wardrobe–that’s why they call him “Mr. Put It On.” The flex-heavy track boasts over 29k video creations on the platform, resonating with TikTok users who also feel their sense of style is worthy of earning them the same name. Creators show off unwavering confidence in their wardrobe by sharing compilations of their best outfits (examples include this one and this one). In other creations, users offer store recommendations and evaluate outfits using the duet feature.
Today, TikTok announced that it partnered with UnbeliEVAble Entertainment (founded by Eva Longoria) to announce the TikTok Latinx Creatives program, inviting over 150 creators to the inaugural TikTok Latinx Creatives creator incubator. The program kicks off on October 12 with a full day of educational programming, including a keynote presentation from globally-recognized, most-followed Latin artist on TikTok, and Colombian-born superstar, J Balvin. Throughout the 10-week program, participants will join the TikTok team — along with some of the most successful Latinx leaders across entertainment, music, business, and more — at motivational town halls, community-building forums and educational workshops. TikTok is excited to kick off TikTok Latinx Creatives and to help them on their missions to become a part of the future of Latinx entertainment.
Global Superstar FARRUKO Makes American Late Night TV Debut, Performing “PEPAS” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon
“PEPAS” Is Currently Sitting at #29 on the Billboard Hot 100 with Over 300 Million Streams to Date
Home to Global Hits “PEPAS” and “La Tóxica,” The Artist’s New Album LA 167 Is Available Now on All Platforms
The Announcement:
Multi-platinum Puerto Rico-born singer-songwriter Farruko made his American late night TV debut last night, performing his global hit “PEPAS” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Flanked by two singers and a triumphant trumpeter in a colorful backdrop that reflects the song’s club-ready theme, Farruko enthusiastically performed his verses and egged on the crowd during the song’s anthemic chorus.
The performance highlights the latest milestone in the song’s road to world-conquering success. “PEPAS” landed Farruko the #1 spot on Billboard’s “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs,” “Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales,” “Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs,” and “Latin Digital Song Sales” charts. The track currently ranks at #6 on Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart, with nearly 303 million total streams, surpassing 2.9 million daily streams, and at #1 on Billboard’s “Hot Latin Songs” chart for 6 consecutive weeks. Last month, Farruko recruited internationally renowned superstar DJ, David Guetta for the official remix version of the global hit.
Along with “PEPAS,” LA 167 is home to “La Tóxica,” which debuted in the top 10 of Billboard’s “Latin Digital Song Sales” list and in the top 15 of “Hot Latin Songs, it peaked at no. 1 in 9 countries, #1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs and Latin Streaming Songs, and scored him a 2021 Latin GRAMMY® nomination in the “Best Reggaeton Performance.” Last week, Farruko shared the festive video for EDM-inflected banger “El Incomprendido,” which interpolates the 1999 eurodance classic “Better Off Alone” by Alice Deejay and generated nearly 6 million YouTube views in just 5 days.
LA 167 is available to stream everywhere via Sony Music Latin/Carbon Fiber Music.

“After his 2017 single ‘Krippy Kush’ became the first Latin trap song to reach the Hot 100 singles chart, Farruko did the unexpected by shifting his next album away from the burgeoning format and returning to urbano’s reggae roots. Eschewing tough rap braggadocio in favor of tuff gong vibrations, Gangalee makes Carribbean connections via cuts like the breezy ‘Quédate’ and the throwback ‘Pórtate Mal.’” – Rolling Stone’s Best Latin Albums of 2019 (Gangalee)

Key Glock Announces Yellow Tape 2, Coming Later This Fall via Paper Route EMPIRE
The Memphis-Born Hero Connects with Tay Keith for the Flute-Heavy New Single “Ambition For Cash“
The Sequel to His Most Successful Solo Project To Date–2020’s Top 20-Charting Yellow Tape–the Upcoming Mixtape Finds Glock Perfecting His Flexing Over an Exquisite Selection of Beats
The Song:
A blunt-force spitter with an immaculate ear for production, Key Glock has mastered the art of flexing. Returning to the stark aesthetic of one of his most successful projects, Key Glock announces Yellow Tape 2, coming soon. The upcoming project is the follow-up to 2020’s Yellow Tape, which peaked at #16 on the Billboard 200 and featured fan favorite songs like “Dough,” ‘Word on the Streets,” and “Look At They Face.“ With production from an A-List of sound architects including Tennessee legends Tay Keith (Memphis), Juicy J (Memphis), and Bandplay (Nashville), plus heavy-hitters from across the rap spectrum like Sosa 808, Budda Bless, and more, the upcoming tape finds the 24-year-old artist refining his style, unleashing tighter flows, delivering cleverer punchlines, and giving even fewer f*cks. Like always, the upcoming project finds Key Glock shouldering the full track load without any features. Expect Yellow Tape 2 to arrive later this fall via Paper Route EMPIRE.
Along with the announcement of the project, Key Glock shares “Ambition For Cash,” his new single. Produced by Tay Keith, who delivers a off-the-wall, flute-laden instrumental fit for a spaghetti western set on Beale Street, “Ambition For Cash” is the first glimpse of the upcoming Yellow Tape 2. Locking into the track’s thudding 808s, Glock speaks on a knack for hustling that has motivated him since he was “13-years-old with a shoebox stash,” spinning effortless flexes that help explain why he’s one of the hottest rappers in the game today: “I’m sippin color purple syrup, ballin hard just like The Beard/Yeah, and Larry Bird, I’m shootin sh*t I know you heard.”
Along with collaborating with fellow PRE signees like Snupe Bandz on “Blu Boyz” and “Bandaid” and Paper Route Woo on “Big Ol Racks,” Glock connected with Gucci Mane for project highlight “I Do This.“
Stay tuned for more music and announcements from Key Glock in the coming weeks.
Multi-Platinum Singer-Songwriter FARRUKO
DropsLA 167, An Ode To His Carribean Roots and Family Legacy
The Puerto Rico-Born Superstar Premieres the Video for “El Incomprendido,” A Highlight From the 25-Track New Album
Credit: Mike Ho
The Announcement:
October 1, 2021 (Miami, FL) – Multi-platinum singer-songwriter and two-time Latin GRAMMY award winner, Farruko, releases his highly anticipated album LA 167. The project finds the global chart-topping reggaetonero further defying industry standards — creating an eclectic ambiance fit for various subcultures and genres. Intentionally crafted to honor the intersections of his hometown of Bayamon and the legacy of his late grandfather, the album displays a Farruko that is nostalgic, festive, vulnerable, and proud.
“[LA 167] is the record, this is the moment, this is the story. It’s an act that will mark my career, my family and it will ultimately mark who I am as a person.” – Farruko
Named after the principal highway that passes through his hometown of Bayamon, Puerto Rico, the album is a special, sentimental ode to the highway and a particular gasoline station that once belonged to his late grandfather. With LA 167, Farruko reclaims his grandfather’s legacy, while simultaneously proving his ability to reach the masses with homegrown messages and diverse, diasporic instrumental selections. To achieve this, he revisited the most nostalgic perreo beats, incorporated the “pilita” or EDM trends popularized in the neighboring country of the Dominican Republic, and his traditional love for Jamaica’s reggae—all while remaining loyal to his grittier influences like his trap, drill, and reggaeton essence.
Acknowledged as one of the leading musical phenomena within the Latin music industry, Farruko’s statement is clear with LA 167. Opening the project are outstanding, chart-topping tracks like “La Tóxica,” which debuted in the top 10 of Billboard’s “Latin Digital Song Sales” list and in the top 15 of “Hot Latin Songs, it peaked at no. 1 in 9 countries, #1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs and Latin Streaming Songs, and scored him a 2021 Latin GRAMMY® nomination in the “Best Reggaeton Performance” category, as well as “Pepas”— his latest global anthem which landed him the #1 spot on Billboard’s “Hot Dance/Electronic Songs,” “Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales,” “Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs,” and “Latin Digital Song Sales” charts. The track currently ranks at #7 on Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart, with over 272 million total streams, surpassing 2.7 million daily streams, and at #1 on Billboard’s “Hot Latin Songs” chart for 6 consecutive weeks. Last week, Farruko recruited internationally renowned superstar DJ , David Guetta for the official remix version of the global hit.
Joining forces with culture giants such as Bayamon-native Ñengo Flow for “Cucaracha,” an alternative track sampling Paquita La Del Barrio’s “Rata De Dos Patas,” and Yomo for “Baya,” reinforces his intentions of giving those before him their flowers through collaboration. His sensible and more vulnerable sides are found in ballads like “$” and “My Lova” — a ballad-turned-reggae track that speaks on heartbreak and karma.
In honoring his island and culture, he delivers tracks like “Jibaro,” which finds Farruko reconnected with his “Calma (Remix)” collaborator Pedro Capo. The song opens up with the sweet sounds of “el coqui,” a frog endemic to Puerto Rico, and lyrically turns to a poetic ode to his rural, country roots. He brings on DJ Adoni for guaracha-EDM records “F*LOVE” and “El Incomprendido.” Other collaborators found in LA 167 include Jay Wheeler, Brray, Secreto, Noriel, Luar, White Star, India Martinez, Lenier, and Jamaican dancehall singer Mavado.
Along with the album, Farruko releases a high-energy new video for LA 167 highlight “El Incomprendido” ft. Victor Cardenas & DJ Adoni. The ideal follow-up to “PEPAS,” “El Incomprendido” keeps the party going, incorporating elements of electronic music – particularly an interpolation of the 1999 eurodance classic “Better Off Alone” by Alice DJ – while sirenic synths and celebratory trombones dueling atop a reggaeton-influenced backbeat. Alternating sweet singing and hard-nosed raps, Farruko crafts an anthem that will blast out of hookah bars for the foreseeable future. Directed by Mike Ho, the video picks up where “PEPAS” left off, as Farruko and company drive their ATVs from the desert into a beachside town to throw the biggest party the town has ever seen. ATVs do donuts in a nearby parking lot as Farruko parties at night by the seaside with cage dancers, the famed DJ Adoni, and a number of beautiful women.
Farruko is no stranger to the repeat button, and with 8 successful studio albums, multiple international collaborations throughout his artistry that include artists like Shaggy, Sean Paul, Alicia Keys, as well as Nicki Minaj, 21 Savage, and Travis Scott for standout track “Krippy Kush”, his versatility and ability to conquer the masses despite language proves he has become one of the most innovative exponents of the reggaeton genre. His eighth studio album “Gangalee” debuted #2 on Billboard’s “Top Latin Albums” chart, entered the global “Billboard 200” chart, and was certified 7X Multi-platinum. The album features singles such as “Nadie”, Inolvidable”, “La Cartera” alongside Bad Bunny, and “Delincuente” with Anuel AA. Likewise, his single “Calma (Remix)” with Pedro Capó became a generationally iconic hit within Latin music and received a Latin GRAMMY® award as well as a Platinum certification by the RIAA. In 2020, Farruko received two ASCAP awards for songs “Calma” and “Si Se Da.”
Sitting on 41.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify, over 8.4 Billion streams across digital platforms, and ranking the 30th most listened to artist in the world; his music transcends borders and languages. This has impacted the Latino community in such a way that his career has been recognized by HBO in a documentary focused on his career entitled, “Farruko: En Letra de Otro.
Characterized as the definitive artist of this generation, Farruko illustrates his natural approach to both commercial and rooted styles with LA 167. This November he will kick off his first US Tour making stops in 15 cities. He recently made history selling out Puerto Rico’s renowned Coliseo arena during a presale for 2 nights for his upcoming homecoming shows of “LA 167 Tour.”

“What sets Watkins apart from his peers, though, is a natural bounce that sits at the core of his best songs…Dee Watkins makes songs that you can party to in one setting, and learn life lessons from in another. He can really do it all.” – Complex
“Listening to Dee Watkins on ‘Hell Raiser’ is a bit like watching Matthew Broderick in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off: You get the sense the delinquents are having more fun.” – Pitchfork
“Dee Watkins has been rapping for more than a decade, first picking up the trade when he was just 9 years old. By 10, he was recording in his next-door neighbor’s studio under the name Lil D. He’s come a long way since.” – XXL
The Announcement:
A sharp storyteller with a versatile delivery, Dee Watkins is quickly building a devoted fanbase in Florida and beyond. Ready to show off his live performance bonafides, Dee Watkins announces that he will be joining the bill of “Rod Wave SoulFly Tour, Presented by Rolling Loud,” a fast-selling tour that criss-crosses the United States. Bringing even more Florida energy to the tour, that already boasts Rod Wave, OMN Twee, and DJ Five Venoms, Dee will perform hits like “Bad Ass Jit” (nearly 40 million YT views) and “Hell Raiser,” and he might even join fellow “SoulFly Tour” rapper NoCap in a performance of their song “Fake Sh*t.”
Dee will join the rest of the performances on the tour, starting with a sold out date tonight in Pittsburgh, PA. With sold out dates to come in Chicago, Boston, Phoenix, and L.A., and low-ticket warnings in several other cities, Dee’s new slot on the “SoulFly Tour” allows him to build anticipation for Problem Child 3, his upcoming mixtape.
The third installment in Dee’s breakout Problem Child series, which included regional hits like the Pitchfork-praised “Hell Raiser” and “Fake Sh*t” ft. NoCap. The mixtape is home to recent singles like “Problem Child 3 (Intro)” and “Beside Me,” the latter a tribute to Dee’s close friend Ham, who passed away recently. On the upcoming Problem Child 3, a return to Dee’s signature mixtape series after the release of Not One Of Them, earlier this year, Dee reckons with his irresponsible past, seeking ways to better himself without forgetting the hard lessons he learned on the streets. Last week, Dee revisited 2020’s Problem Child 2 when he released the video for the soulful cut “See It In Me.”
Problem Child 3 arrives this fall via Alamo Records.
The Lil Durk-Endorsed Rapper and Only The Family Signee Shares the Latest Video From His Big Doodie Lo Project
The Video:
Specializing in hard-nosed rhymes delivered with a pleasant rasp, Doodie Lo is a good bet to be the next tough-talking midwest rapper to hit it big. Proving that he’s not one to be messed with, the Only The Family rapper shares “Nowhere,” his new video. Running roughshod over a beat from ATL Jacob, Doodie Lo takes aim at all steppers, warning Instagram haters that they better not take their crazy talk outside: “N***** only gangsters when they get on live/When we get your lo’-lo’, boy, you gon’ die.” In the video, Doodie Lo collects his OTF brethren, mobbing in numbers and gleefully ignoring the “no loitering” signs in front of the neighborhood stores. “Nowhere” is a highlight track from Big Doodie Lo, the artist’s debut full-length, and follows the video for his hometown anthem “Mr. Kankakee.”
A veteran in the streets since his early teens, the up-and-coming rapper is blends expert tough talk on songs like “Bodies” with vulnerable melody on tracks like “Don’t Worry.” The new mixtape benefits from the influence of the late King Von, Doodie’s close friend and confidante, who Doodie credits for helping him develop the confidence to strike out on his own. The mixtape is home to “Me & Doodie Lo,” an energetic collab between Von and Doodie that originally appeared on OTF’s Loyal Broscompilation (and racked up over 8 million YouTube views), in which the legendary O-Block native gives Mr. Kankakee an enthusiastic co-sign. Doodie Lo returns the favor with mixtape highlight “Von Flow,” in which he emulates the propulsive rhyming pattern that Von used in many of his hits and tells a crazy story of his own. Featuring appearances from his OTF head honcho Lil Durk, along with spots from Moneybagg Yo, Pooh Shiesty (on the pugilistic recent single “Bodies,” which has 2+ million YouTube views), BIG30, and Yung Mal, Big Doodie Lo is available to stream everywhere via Only The Family / EMPIRE.
A close associate of Lil Durk with a growing fanbase in the midwest, Doodie Lo hails from Kankakee, a small city 30 minutes outside of Chicago. He has contributed several standout tracks to OTF compilation tapes, including “Hang Out” ft. Memo600, from 2019’s Family Over Everything. The artist had his coming out party earlier this year with his contributions to Loyal Bros, including “Took Down,” his collaboration with Memphis rapper BIG30 that racked up over 1.7 million video views, “Street Raised Me,” which connected him with Booka600, and most significantly, the aforementioned “Me And Doodie Lo.”
With the full support of Lil Durk and a strong debut mixtape under his belt, Doodie Lo looks to establish himself as the next midwest street rapper to blow. Given all that he’s already overcome, it would not be wise to bet against him.
Founded by Lil Durk, Only The Family is one of rap’s most respected labels and most impressive collections of talent. Originally based in Chicago, the label earned a reputation for cultivating some of the city’s most vital talents, with members like Booka600, Memo600, and the late great King Von. With a roster that reflects label boss Durk’s signature combination of raw lyricism and emotional songwriting, OTF has released three label compilation mixtapes, including the two volumes of Only The Family Involved in 2018 and Family Over Everything in 2019. Ready to make a statement after a 2020 marked by success and tragedy in equal measure, Only The Family is currently preparing Loyal Bros, their next compilation tape, coming in February 2021.
This Week TikTok Gets Fancy Like Applebee’s, Indulges in Rockwell’s Paranoia, and Loudly Says “We Love You Tecca”
The News:
Each week, the TikTok Treats newsletter gives a snapshot of the state of music on TikTok, touching on trending hits, emerging artists, superstar moves, ascendant memes, and much more. In recent weeks, hit songs from multiple decades have trended on the app, even as the community continues to discover new stars. Below, check out some of the more notable songs and trends to pop on the platform in late September:
Country music has been having a major moment this past summer on TikTok with the success of Walker Hayes’ “Fancy Like”. Inspired by his family’s countless trips to Applebee’s in his hometown of Mobile, Alabama during his childhood, “Fancy Like” has sparked a dance trend on the app to the tune of over 724K creations. Since Walker posted a TikTok of him hitting some trendy dance moves to the song with his daughter Lela in June, the dance has been recreated by couples working on farms, creators who lost hilarious bets, and creators getting photobombed by Shaq at Applebee’s. The track’s continued success on the app has translated to over 66M listens on Spotify, 11 weeks at #1 on the Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, and a TikTok montage of the sound’s creations in an Applebee’s commercial. Walker Hayes even connected with pop star Kesha for a remix to the catchy, feel-good track and, of course, you know they had to grace the app with a duet creation of them grooving to their collaboration.
Few classic hits are as ripe for TikTok appreciation as Rockwell’s 1984 classic “Somebody’s Watching Me“–it has a distinct vibe, describes a relatable paranoid mindset, and communicates a complex idea in a matter of seconds. With over 184k video creations since user @terrencel0vesu danced to it on a boardwalk on September 13th, the song is taking over TikTok’s virtual airwaves. Some users have ran with a simple close-up based trend, or choreographed their own dance, but others have gotten more creative, leaning into the song’s Halloween-y subtext and posting clips of themselves in creepy costumes or tours of potentially-haunted houses.
By digging up classic hits and giving them new context, TikTok users open up a two-way portal between music’s past and present. This week, creators have rediscovered Baby Boy Da Prince’s 2007 song “The Way I Live,” using the song’s emphatic chorus to make defiant statements about their own lives. The soft-spoken classic boasts 13.6K+ creations to date, with users comedically responding to criticisms about their everyday habits. Whether they decide to buy new clothes for every season, throw extravagant birthday parties, or opt for a new hair color, creators turn to Baby Boy Da Prince’s one-liner as the explanation for their choices: “This is the way I live.”
Filipino Indie rock singer Eyedress’ hazy and heartfelt “Something About You” (64K+ creations) is making the rounds on TikTok. Creators have been taking to the song’s “She looks just like a dream, the prettiest girl I’ve ever seen” lyrics to demonstrate ways they love themselves, the ways they love others, and the ways others love them. The smooth, ethereal indie rock track has inspired creations from those who take pride in their early morning makeup routines, love having painting dates with their significant other, and have mothers who never cease to adore their child’s beauty. After he noticed the song trending, Eyedress revealed that his girlfriend was his muse for the track, much to the delight of those on the app who enjoy the song.
Part of the beauty of music on TikTok is its collaborative nature–using the duet function, creators can elaborate on one artist’s idea and weave a vast tapestry of complementary sounds. In July, singer @sarahcothran recorded an acapella interpretation of MIKA’s 2009 hit “Grace Kelly,” including melodic ideas for vocal parts in each range. The original sound has over 26k video creations, as TikTok users add their own voices and ideas on top of Sarah’s, ranging from simple harmonies, to original rap verses. Sarah’s original instrumental has taken on a life of its own, as users channel the deep emotion of her vocal performance to tell personal stories, such as how their parents met in the military, how they serendipitously met their future spouses, and how they parlayed looking like Adam Sandler into a chance to meet the man himself.
The Atlanta Riser Shows Off A Gritty Sense of Melody in a Reflective New Single
Critical Praise:
“Anchored by his nimble lyrical ability, 1.5 Way Or No Way demonstrates how Yung Mal can rap with some of the biggest in the game right now and still hold his own.” – Complex
“Drenched in authenticity, New Orleans-born, Atlanta-bred rapper Yung Mal is looking like the next to blow out of the south.” – XXL
“Unpacking his latest triumphs and showing love to his neighborhood, Yung Mal bosses up in a major way on his new project.” – HotNewHipHop
“Yung Mal is on a fast ascension through the industry.” – ELEVATOR
“One of the most promising rising artists…Mal consistently brings interesting and unique flows onto stellar production.” – Lyrical Lemonade
The Song:
Emerging from Atlanta’s Zone 6, Yung Mal stands out in his city’s bustling trap scene with his tumbling flow and his sharp pen. Taking stock of his precarious position and reflecting on how he got there, Mal shares “One Night,” his new song. Produced with apocalyptic grandeur by PlutoBrazy, the new song finds Mal exercising his melodic muscles, lightly applying auto-tune but allowing his natural rasp to shine through. The 1.5 Da Label chieftain reflects on the chances he took and the price he paid in order to provide for his son, his mom, and his friends: “Catching each play like Jerry Rice/Life is a gamble, I rolled the dice.” “One Night” follows the flex-heavy “Get Right” in the wake of 1.5 Way Or No Way, Mal’s recent mixtape.
Named after the neighborhood in which he grew up, and for a phrase that was a favorite of his late homie Plug, 1.5 Way Or No Way is a mature and versatile effort. Mal’s rhymes are more polished and precise, reflecting the perspective of a father of a young son and daughter and a neighborhood leader who bears the hopes and dreams of his friends on his back. Home to singles like “Woah Woah” ft. Lil Gotit and the Pitchfork-praised “Wassup Wit Me” ft. G Herbo, the new mixtape earned praise from Complex (“Yung Mal can rap with some of the biggest in the game right now and still hold his own”) and HotNewHipHop (“Yung Mal bosses up in a major way on his new project”), as well as coverage from XXL, RESPECT, and more. Featuring additional appearances from BIG30 and Real Taker, 1.5 Way Or No Way is available everywhere via Alamo Records.
