YN Jay Announces 6/1 ‘Young Wild & Free’ Project, Calls for Applause on “Shake That A$$ Baby”

  • Press Release

YN Jay Announces 6/1 ‘Young Wild & Free’ Project, Calls for Applause on “Shake That A$$ Baby”

    5.26.2022

YN Jay Prepares Next Project Young Wild & Free, Coming June 1st via Alamo Records

The Michigan Native Shares New Single “Shake That A$$ Baby

The Coochie Man Prepares to Unleash his Adolescent Audacity on New Project with Appearances from Babyface Ray, Mozzy, Bizzy Banks, Rio Da Yung OG, and Louie Ray

    Critical Praise:

“There is Bruce Wayne and Batman. Clark Kent and Superman. And now, YN Jay and the Coochie Man” – Pitchfork

“Flint, Michigan wouldn’t be one of the hottest scenes in rap without ‘Coochie,’ ‘Coochie World,’ ‘Coochie Scout,’ a mixtape titled Coochie Land, and Coochie Man, the floor-humping alter ego of YN Jay.” – Pitchfork

“‘Coochie’ is one of the funniest hip-hop videos of the last five years” – XXL

“The Flint native is one of the more eccentric rappers in Michigan, rapping about coochie, using very distinct ‘hold onnnnnnnnnnnnn’ ad-ibs, and starting off songs by asking the producer: ‘Why you always do that mannnnnnnn?’ I’m honestly not sure what these producers are doing while YN Jay is recording in the booth, but whatever it is, it’s working. The music is always wildly entertaining.” – Complex

“He raps in different voices, draws out words like they’re self-contained riddles. You never know if he’s entirely serious, but that’s the point.”- SPIN

    The Announcement:

With his animated spin on Flint rap, driven by a sense of sexual frustration that borders on mania, YN Jay has consistently built on his viral arrival to the scene. Diving head-first into the jovial, adolescent sound he’s built a career upon, YN Jay announces Young Wild & Free, his next project. The project is a Michigan rap affair through and through, featuring appearances from pioneers of the scene including Rio Da Yung OG and Babyface Ray, as well as explosive production from Michigan sound architects like ENRGY, Wayne616, and Marc Boomin. Jam-packed with Jay’s undeniable humor and unflappable intensity, Young Wild & Free arrives June 1st via Alamo Records.

Alongside the announcement, Jay shares his new single, “Shake That A$$ Baby.” Coming hot on the heels of the recent video single, “Coochie Island,” “Shake That A$$ Baby” finds the Coochie Man in fine form, delivering his raunchy rhymes in his laid back flow. Over a beat by his favorite collaborator ENRGY, the Michigan rap star plots his empire of coochie commerce, ringing off his extensive resume of skills, rapping, “I can GPS you to this one spot like a navigator/I’ll whoop your a** in the ring like I’m Gladiator/I’ve been counting numbers all year, I’m a calculator/All I need is 7 shots of Henny, I’m an activator.”

YN Jay kicked off 2022 with his Mozzy and Louie Ray-assisted banger, “Tip Off,” following a prolific 2021, in which the Alamo Records signee released multiple projects, spark ed several viral trends, and dropped a metric ton of music videos. Furthermore, the Michigan rapper solidified himself as a somewhat mythical figure on TikTok, generating millions of video creations on viral hits like “Triple S,” “Coochie Land,” and “Kakashi,” while his inimitable raps quickly earned co-signs from the likes of Drake and Lil Uzi Vert. Among his 2021 projects was the highly acclaimed Coochie Chronicles, home to singles like “Slow Motion” and the Coi Leray-assisted, “Triple S Remix.” Receiving praise from Pitchfork, The FADER, and more, the project ushers listeners into Jay’s sex-crazed mind, wielding his slip-sliding, start-stopping flow as he unleashes a torrent of punchlines and outrageous boasts. Coochie Chronicles is also home to Jay’s signature song, “Coochie,” a collaboration with “Tip Off” featured artist and close friend, Louie Ray, which boasts over 32 million views on YouTube.

Stay tuned for much more from the “Coochie Man” as he gears up for the release of Young Wild & Free.

    The Background:

“It’s scary how easy it is for me to make music,” admits 21-year-old rapper YN Jay. This is true of his 2020 hit “Coochie” and the follow-up album Coochie Land. “It was made in three minutes, easily, and the video did 30 million views. I’ve been writing songs to go a certain way my whole life, but it never worked. Now, I’m not overthinking it, and it’s making me a star.” After over a decade at the mic, the Beecher, Michigan native has given rap fans an alternative to music about violence and drugs.

Amid his rise, Jay got cosigns from Drake and Lil Uzi Vert. While Drizzy and Jay are exploring music, he recorded extensively with Uzi. The same night the two discussed collaborating, Jay stopped everything to drive to Philly. “I pulled up; we did damn near eight songs.” One track, the “coochie”-inspired “HOLD ONNNNN,” promises to release during an exciting 2021. Fresh off of Ninja Warrior—an album featuring Lil Yachty and Sada Baby that he conceptualized and recorded in a single day, YN Jay recently signed a deal with Alamo Records and is focused on showcasing his versatility and staying power. “I’m working on a few albums and letting the world know how big this is. Anybody can be a rapper; I’m trying to catch the culture and update the game.”

  • Press Release

Louisville’s The Homies Get Hype Like Williams in “Shake” Video

    5.25.2022

Video: The Homies – “Shake” (Dir. by Ace Pro)

The Jack Harlow Co-Signed Louisville Rap Group–Comprised of Ace Pro, Quiiso, 2forWOyNe, and Shloob–Share a High-Octane Video Single Ahead of a Hometown Performance at Forecastle Festival This Friday

    Critical Praise:

“The Homies have quietly been climbing to the top of the indie music scene, with singles and visuals such as “Home Alone” and “The Come Down”, which they gave fans earlier this summer. Known for their own unique individualism, Honest Living embodies each personality flawlessly from Ace Pro’s creative vision, 2FoWoyne’s distinct production, and Shloob and Quiiso’s melodic flows.”Broadway World

“The Homies deliver top tier bars showcasing their natural unique talent”RESPECT Mag

“9 Exciting Acts to Catch at Forecastle This Year…Everything that they do is smooth, with a relaxed creatively that still hits hard. All things considered, their superpower is the diversity of their styles, how each member is different, bringing new energy and ideas into various moments. That’s the thing about a collective done right: it’s never gets boring, because there’s too much talent.”Louisville City Beat

“Louisville rappers respect the artistry of their peers, love to collaborate with one another, and love to rep the ‘Ville. The next group to pop from the 502 is none other than The Homies. The Homies consist of four individualistic, multi-talented artists: Quiiso, Shloob, Ace Pro, and 2forwOyNE.”SHEESH Media

    The Video:

A do-it-all collective that specializes in sounds both energetic and smooth, Louisville’s The Homies channel their spritely communal spirit into sparkling rap jams. Unleashing an uptempo dancefloor jam with booming bass and lightning-quick wordplay, The Homies share Shake,” their latest video single. Produced by group member 2forWOyNe, who has multiple credits on Jack Harlow’s Top 5-charting album Come Home The Kids Miss You, “Shake” layers tuneful 808s, breathy ad-libs, and entrancing keyboards to create an inviting canvas for the group’s emcees to paint their masterpiece. Quiiso starts things off with a floating, effortless-sounding series of flexes (“Security know the name, I don’t need ID/These n****s is second fiddle like N.I.T.”); Shloob follows with a sing-song hook, and Ace Pro comes through with a playalistic anchor verse: “Got two bad hoes tryna catch a vibe/And I give ’em mad work like a 9 to 5.”

Directed by Ace Pro, who handles the visuals for all of The Homies’ releases, the video for “Shake” demonstrates the kinetic group energy that has them rising in the indie rap scene. The clip presents The Homies in close-up and close quarters, using flashy backgrounds and fish-eye perspectives that evoke the big budget videos of ’90s rap auteur Hype Williams. Ace Pro intercuts the scenes of the sunglass-clad Homies vibing with some ladies with comedic vignettes that correspond to the lyrics. “Shake” is the first new song and video of the year for The Homies, as they prepare to release a new album this summer.

Formed in Louisville out of a shared passion for music and creativity, The Homies have earned high-profile co-signs, earning praise from iconic DJs DJ Drama and Don Cannon, and opening on tour for artists like Lil Uzi Vert, Bryson Tiller, and Waka Flocka Flame. The Homies scored a cult hit with Leaf Wraps,” a Jack Harlow-featuring single that scored over 5 million streams on Spotify, and later appeared on their 2018 debut album UmbrellasThey followed up Umbrellas with last year’s Honest Livinghome to the single “White Lies” (3.7 million Spotify streams). With the follow-up to Honest Living on the way, The Homies plan to show off their live chops on May 27th at Louisville’s own Forecastle Festival.

With much more music on deck and an unshakeable passion for The Homies are ready to follow in the footsteps of their friend Jack Harlow from the Louisville underground to the rap mainstream. Sit back, and watch their rise.

Planet AFROPUNK Live: Miami – Festival Recap

The First Ever Planet AFROPUNK Live in Miami Brings Vibrant Performances From Skillibeng, Stonebwoy, YEИDRY, Mavado, and Many More Talented Acts from the Afro-Caribbean Diaspora

    THE RECAP:

AFROPUNK festivals blend elements like food, dance, tech, and music in an effort to celebrate Black culture and enhance community understanding. This weekend, AFROPUNK hosted Planet AFROPUNK Live: Miami, bringing thrilling performances and a charged countercultural energy to the 305. Hosted at The Urban, in the city’s historic, and historically Black, community of Overtown, the first-ever Planet AFROPUNK Live: Miami offered a day of thought-provoking conversation, followed by two days of incredible music and activations like the Spinthrift Market, a shop market full of talented makers, selectors and curators from all across the diaspora, and AFROPUNK’s Bites ‘n Beats, the literal embodiment of “food for the soul,” which provided event goers an opportunity to indulge in cuisines from renowned chefs and local food trucks.

The first night of the festival brought energizing performances from the likes of Stonebwoy and Mavado, who made the crowd jump with raucous riddims from Ghana and Jamaica, respectively, as well as the genre-bending beats of ChocQuibTown, soulful Spanish-language songs from YEИDRY, and a blazing DJ set from Major Lazer member Walshy Fire. Sunday kept the groove coming, with a headlining performance from red hot dancehall artist Skillibeng, who performed his first-ever concert in the United States, a tasteful DJ set from local hero Silent Addy, a star turn from rising Afrobeats rapper Prettyboy D-O, and a surprise-filled set from Michael Brun, who brought out a litany of special guests from around the globe.

Planet AFROPUNK Live: Miami ushers in a new era of AFROPUNK live experiences, allowing for all elements of a local culture to be expressed freely and fully. The first live AFROPUNK event since the onset of the pandemic, Planet AFROPUNK Miami sets the pace for a busy year for the AFROPUNK brand, as it expands into new cities and prepares to do it big for its flagship event in Brooklyn. Planet AFROPUNK lands in Minneapolis this June, with artists like Ari Lennox, Noname, and more in tow.

AFROPUNK creates an anchor for its growing audience of multicultural youth through its annual music festival and other events (in Brooklyn, Miami, Minneapolis, and Oakland) with past events in Paris, London, Atlanta, and Johannesburg), while continually enhancing engagement and promoting conversation through content, commerce, and community.

AFROPUNK is devoted to creating safe spaces for the expression of Black liberation and a Black Future where we love ourselves and each other without preconception. The AFROPUNK tenets serve as a North Star and remind people to check themselves, ego and each other when we enter the shared spaces.
