CULVER CITY, California—June 13, 2022—Today, Prime Video announced it will exclusively stream Karam Gill’s Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby, produced by Quality Films, MGX Creative, and 4PF. The feature-length documentary made its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival on Saturday and was followed by a performance from Lil Baby.

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Baby has been one of the world’s most impactful artists since his first release in 2017. Untrapped tells his story, and details his meteoric rise to become the most dominant name in the rap game. While still a teenager, Baby— known to friends and family as Dominique Armani Jones— was one of the most notorious figures in the streets of West Atlanta, before he was arrested and sent to prison. After his release in 2016, he faced a hard choice: Return to the fast money of the streets, or take a chance that his charisma and untested talent could bring him success as a rapper. In 2020, his second album, My Turn, was the year’s top seller across all genres of music. Today, Lil Baby is a devoted father to his two young boys and a powerful voice in the fight for racial justice and police reform. Exploring the pain that dwells behind a celebratory holiday, Lupe shares “Galveston,” a powerful new song. Commissioned by Apple Music as part of its celebration of Juneteenth 2022, “Galveston” takes its name from the holiday’s East Texas origins–though Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, the emancipation didn’t fully take effect in Texas until the Union Army reached Galveston on June 19th, 1865. The new song pays tribute to Texas and its role in Juneteenth, lyrically, with social commentary, and sonically, with occasional drops into the chopped-n-screwed delivery common in Houston hip-hop.

The Black community has played an integral role in the creation and development of genres such as Jazz, Gospel, R&B, Rock, Hip-Hop, Electronic and Dance music, and more. During #BlackMusicMonth, TikTok will explore the origins, triumphs, and complexities of genres popular in the app today, and shine a light on the artists and creators who entertain and inspire the TikTok community, and continue to shift the culture with innovations of their own.

Black Music Month and Pride Month coincide in June, and to celebrate the creativity of Black LGBTQ+ artists on TikTok, we’re spotlighting 6 Black LGBTQ+ creators who continue to inspire us with their music and truly embody the spirit of Pride Together:

Busting out of Broward with tight rhymes and a million watt smile, Deerfield Beach rapper Trapland Pat is turning heads with his hard-hitting rap tunes. Ready to serve another plate of refined and rhythmic street music, Pat prepares Trapnificent, his next project, out June 9th. Spanning 18 tracks, the new project emphasizes Pat’s deep musicality, evident in the lilting flows that make his tracks memorable. A former Division I football recruit, Pat applies an athlete’s mindset to his craft, using discipline and repetition to add new dimensions to his game. In the video, My Favorite Color wakes up and chooses violence, hopping out of bed and rhyming into a dangling microphone, in his own warped version of Colors. Creators are happily engaging with the lively sound, using it to soundtrack cute one-year-old babies in their toy cars, roller skating excursions that end with skate bestie run ins, and the best recipes for a refreshing Aperol spritz cocktail. Some creators are even using sound to show off groovy dance moves befitting a roommate date in a sushi restaurant.
- Singer-songwriter, and Real Housewives of Atlanta reality tv star Kandi Burruss has the TikTok community feeling themselves with her track “Legs, Hips, Body” (30.2K+ creations). A collaboration with singer D. Woods, fellow RHOA star Porsha Williams, and media personality Funky Dineva, created for the 2014 Kandi-produced play A Mother’s Love, the song’s appearance in a recent TikTok creation on Kandi’s account sparked its unexpected resurgence eight years later. Creators are loving the sound, using it to comedically display its similar vibe to the Temple Run theme song, attempt to convince their partner to go to bed instead of packing, and strut their stuff before boarding a plane.
- The TikTok community has mastered the skill of refreshing throwback songs with new context and ideas. This week, creators are channeling their nostalgia as they vibe out to The Beatnuts 2001 song, “Se Acabo” ft. Method Man (3.1M+ creations). Using TikTok’s disposable fisheye lens filter, creators wear their favorite shades and bop their heads to the song’s upbeat introduction – whether by themselves or with their besties. In other creations, “Se Acabo” soundtracks mini vlogs, wardrobe recommendations, and Mercedes truck makeovers.
- With the release of the highly-anticipated fourth season of Stranger Things has come the resurgence of Kate Bush’s 1985 classic “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God).” The song has taken over TikTok since appearing in the premiere of the acclaimed show’s fourth season, garnering over 168.8K+ creations. Creators use the new wave genre track to engage in all things Stranger Things, including admitting to how the show impacted their lives, taking Stranger Things character quizzes, and even showing how they watch the show in their 80s-themed room. Thirty-seven years since its debut, the track is topping charts, reaching #1 on iTunes’ Songs Chart (All-Genres) over the weekend.
- Time and time again, TikTok provides the perfect platform for artists to test the temperature of their unreleased music. After previewing his debut single “5 Foot 9” (56.7K+ creations) on TikTok in early May, country singer Tyler Hubbard helped create a bubbling trend among TikTok creators. Inspired by his catchy hook, “God makes 5 foot 9, brown eyes, in a sundress/Loves Tim McGraw and a small town accent,” creators reveal their height, eye color, and their interests across a series of photos of themselves. Even if their height isn’t 5’9”, creators use the country song as a moment to introduce themselves to their followers. Tyler Hubbard also interacted with the trend on the platform, using the song to describe his wife – who is surprisingly not 5’9”!

Earlier this week, an interstellar emissary landed on TikTok–legendary rock band Pink Floyd joined the platform, along with their incredible catalog of songs. Arriving in time to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their landmark Dark Side Of The Moon, Pink Floyd will be regularly posting unique video content that will continue their legacy of using memorable images to enhance their music. Creators can do their part by using incredible songs like “Another Brick in the Wall (Part II),” “Money,” and “Comfortably Numb” in their videos, or by determining once and for all if Dark Side actually syncs with The Wizard Of Oz.

The Background:

“It’s scary how easy it is for me to make music,” admits 21-year-old rapper YN Jay. This is true of his 2020 hit “Coochie” and the follow-up album Coochie Land. “It was made in three minutes, easily, and the video did 30 million views. I’ve been writing songs to go a certain way my whole life, but it never worked. During its inaugural weekend, Sueños Festival proved that it has the potential to be an institution in Chicago, and a premier destination for Latin talent for years to come.

The final day of the first-ever Sueños brought bright stars, beautiful weather, and immaculate vibes, playing host to twelve hours of non-stop Latin Music and Reggaeton. J Balvin capped the night with a stunning performance, making the most out of his only U.S. set of 2022. Making a marquee stop on their final tour (“La Última Misión”), Reggaeton legends Wisin Y Yandel brought down the house with hits from their decades-long career. Ascendant superstars like Jhayco and Sech demonstrated the talent and musicality that helps them stand apart, Fuerza Regida brought regional Mexican flair, rising stars like Lyanno and La Gabi showed why they were next up, and Chicago-based DJ Miriam put on for her city with the first performance of the day. Between sets, the official Sueños DJ, DJ Fredy Fresco, spun classics from all eras of Reggaeton, uniting the audience under the banner of Perreo.

Nestled in picturesque Grant Park in the heart of downtown Chicago, Sueños Music Festival celebrates the success of its inaugural event, and plans many more great years ahead in the Windy City.

Bringing immaculate vibes and fiery Latin Music to the shores of Lake Michigan, Sueños Music Festival is the stuff that dreams are made of. Taking place in picturesque Grant Park, Chicago, Sueños kicked off its inaugural festival on a high note, with a full complement of contemporary Latin sounds that reflects the vibrancy and diversity of the current scene.

Ozuna closed out the night with his brand of melodic Reggaeton during his first Chicago performance in four years, Farruko tore up the stage with electronic-influenced hits like “PEPAS,” and Myke Towers showed out with his rich tenor and R&B-inspired melodies. Beyond Reggaeton, the sounds of Sueños drew from ascendant genres like Dembow from Dominican don El Alfa and rising star Tokischa, and played host to one of the biggest U.S. sets by regional Mexican superstar Natanael Cano.

Dedicated to the ideals of peace, love, and perreo, the fans at the festival brought just as much energy as the performers, reveling in the communal enjoyment of their favorite music. Sueños was created to be an inclusive event with a mission to celebrate and uplift Latin culture and the extraordinary music, people, food, and amazing energy that comes along with it. Fans at the festival enjoyed a curated selection of local food vendors, a one-of-a-kind mural installation by Chicago-based artist Kozmo, more festive art installations to add to the vibe, and a full complement of merch inspired by the festival and its host city.

Jelly and Pi’erre Bourne have a well-worn rapper/producer chemistry as long time friends. Connecting for a full-length project that shows off the sound they developed–one that takes equal inspiration from Memphis horrorcore and Carolina party music–Jelly and Pi’erre share The Wolf of Peachtree 2, available now via SossHouse.

Entirely produced and engineered by Pi’erre Bourne, who also contributes vocals to the project highlight “WYA,” The Wolf of Peachtree 2 perfectly encapsulates the fierce duality of Jelly’s style. Over Pi’erre’s genre-bending instrumentals and jaw-dropping transitions, Jelly delivers his most combative cadences yet, offering disrespectful shots at his opps with a smile on his face.

“We know each other’s sounds,” says Jelly, about his friend and label head Pi’erre Bourne. “We know what each other likes and we know what each other don’t like.”

The duo’s chemistry is apparent on unrelenting cuts like “Twin” and “Mumble Jumble,” where Jelly’s lockstep delivery cuts through the chaotic, yet calming carnival that is Pi’erre’s signature. Still, throughout the tape, Jelly proves that even though he has refined tastes, he’s not one to cross: “Woke up 10 o’clock, I’m feeling kinda pissed/The numbers just played, smoked a blunt, I dropped the fifth,” he spits on project highlight “Pop It.”

Along with the project, Jelly shares “Motion,” a brand new music video. The tape’s opening track, “Motion” finds Jelly applying his drawly staccato to Pi’erre’s liquid, jazz-inspired keys, which add an air of refinement to Jelly’s street-level boasts: “On the money train, I can see it, then it’s open/Goin’ back and forth, I got motion like the ocean,” he spits. Directed by Samuel Finley, the video finds Jelly on his home turf, as he takes over Peachtree Central Station in Atlanta. With help from the wavy camera work and his sparkling smile, Jelly crafts a clip that makes riding the MARTA seem like the flyest activity imaginable

The followup to 2020’s The Wolf of Peachtree is home to Jelly’s recent Juicy J-assisted single, “Bubble Gum,” a chirpy celebration of curvature coated in the influence of Three 6 Mafia, both in sound and subject matter. “Bubble Gum” sees the South Carolina native channel the immutable flows of Memphis’ underground with stunning efficacy, a motif of influence which Jelly carries throughout the project, augmented by Juicy J’s contributions to The Wolf of Peachtree 2 as an engineer.

“It’s scary how easy it is for me to make music,” admits 21-year-old rapper YN Jay. This is true of his 2020 hit “Coochie” and the follow-up album Coochie Land. “It was made in three minutes, easily, and the video did 30 million views. I’ve been writing songs to go a certain way my whole life, but it never worked. Now, I’m not overthinking it, and it’s making me a star.” After over a decade at the mic, the Beecher, Michigan native has given rap fans an alternative to music about violence and drugs.

Amid his rise, Jay got cosigns from Drake and Lil Uzi Vert. While Drizzy and Jay are exploring music, he recorded extensively with Uzi. SUEÑOS MUSIC FESTIVAL REVEALS SET TIMES AND STYLISH MERCH FOR INAUGURAL EVENT

FEATURING J BALVIN, OZUNA, WISIN & YANDEL, FARRUKO, AND MANY MORE, THE 2-DAY FESTIVAL ARRIVES IN GRANT PARK, CHICAGO THIS WEEKEND (5/28-29)

The Announcement:

(Chicago, IL – May 26, 2022) Sueños Music Festival, the largest Latin Music & Reggaeton event to ever take place in the heart of downtown Chicago, unveils new merch that will be available for purchase at this weekend’s event. In addition, Sueños has revealed the set times, site map, and performance schedule, allowing fans to plan their action-packed weekend accordingly. Headlined by J Balvin, Ozuna, Farruko, and Wisin & Yandel, with performances from Myke Towers, El Alfa, Jhayco, Sech, Fuerza Regida and many more, the inaugural Sueños Festival happens on May 28th & 29th in Grant Park, Chicago.

The Sueños team devised a wide selection of bespoke merch to commemorate the inaugural festival and honor Chicago’s Latin culture. Fans can choose between three hoodie designs, a tie-dye short sleeved tee, a white long-sleeved tee, baseball caps in four colors, a bucket hat, and snazzy socks. Finally, Sueños designed a baseball jersey, celebrating Chicago’s historic status as a mecca for America’s pastime.

Produced by the teams behind Baja Beach Fest, Chicago’s own Reventon Promotions and Lollapalooza. Sueños Festival (translation: dreams), was created to be an inclusive event with a mission to continue to celebrate and uplift Latin culture and the extraordinary music, people, food, and amazing energy that comes along with it. In addition to an entirely Latin lineup, the festival will feature a curated selection of Chicago’s best Latin food, art installations, a ferris wheel, multiple bars, and specialty cocktail lounges, and much more.
