One of the most exciting faces in hip-hop today, Key Glock announces he will embark on his 2023 US tour this upcoming spring – SiriusXM’s Hip-Hop Nation Presents: Key Glock – Glockoma Tour – with support from fellow Memphis native Big Scarr. Produced by Live Nation, the 31-date run kicks off on March 5th at Atlanta’s Coca-Cola Roxy making stops in Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, and more before wrapping up in Nashville, TN at Marathon Music Works on April 28th.

Key Glock will be performing songs from his catalog, including PRE5L, the 5-song EP he released on November 17th, 2022. Glock’s last solo headlining tour, YellowTape 2022, sold over 35,000 tickets across intimate venues. His upcoming Key Glock – Glockoma Tour promises even more hits, with the addition of Big Scarr, an XXL Freshman and rising signee from Gucci Mane’s The New 1017 label.

Leading the vanguard of the Memphis underground, Xavier Wulf is always on the move. Emerging for the first time since releasing October’s Blood Shore Season 3 mixtape, the Hollow Squad head honcho connects with director DotComNirvan to share the new video for project highlight “First Light.” The tape’s Hitkidd-produced opening track features tense violin loops and hasty percussion, creating a cinematic martial arts vibe which Wulf leverages to deliver his sinister bars: “I ain’t finna play with none of you n****s or your homies/He said he wouldn’t run, found out that was bologna, b****!”

The DotComNirvan-directed video for “First Light” sets a high bar for the pair’s first collaboration. Blending live-action with animation, the video finds live-action Xavier approaching a series of opponents with his katana blade cloaked in smoke-illuminated blood red hues, before transitioning to anime-style combat scenes where Wulf appears as a ninja-like masked assassin, quickly doing away with each of his targets. Evoking cinematic styles of films like V for Vendetta and anime series like Cowboy Bebop, “First Light” continues to push Wulf’s status as a mythical figure in the rap world.

Continuing his fan-favorite mixtape series, Blood Shore Season 3 deposits new listeners and loyal fans into Xavier’s shadowy underworld of souped-up sports cars and stacks of cash. “One Time” hails from Paint The City, the upcoming mixtape by Icewear Vezzo. Hosted by DJ Drama, Paint The City is the latest edition of the DJ’s famous Gangsta Grillz series of tapes. The new video is the second glimpse of the upcoming tape, following “God Bless The 6,” a collaboration with his fellow 6 Mile native Babyface Ray. 2022 was yet another eventful year on TikTok, with more trending moments, hit songs, and exciting new artists than one can count. Next week, TikTok celebrates the Year On TikTok 2022, highlighting the moments, music, and people who made 2022 Truly For You. Stay tuned to find out which songs and artists ruled the roost, and to peek at another class of emerging artists who used TikTok to jumpstart their careers.

There are dozens of classic Christmas songs, but often other holidays get the short shrift. Luckily for all, Fetty Wap took to TikTok to introduce a Thanksgiving anthem for the ages. The Paterson, NJ star unveiled a sumptuous cover of “Sweet Yamz,” a cover of Masego & Devin Morrison’s 2021 song “Yamz.” With over 31k creations to date, the song’s glorious harmonies soundtracked all sorts of Thanksgiving goodness over the past week, ranging from a first-ever home-cooked Thanksgiving, to a washing machine feast, to perfectly reheated leftovers. “Sweet Yamz” earned plaudits from influential fans like Lizzo, Snoop Dogg, and Wiz Khalifa, and inspired cover versions from auto-tune experimenters and the legendary singer Charlie Wilson, who blew everyone (including original artist Devin Morrison) away with his powerful performance. Devin Morrison celebrated by duetting (and harmonizing with) his favorite “Sweet Yamz” videos and making sure the TikTok community knew his original version.
For many, Thanksgiving brought a heap of happy moments with loved ones and assortments of comfort food. Backed by Jason Derulo’s chart-topping 2009 hit “Whatcha Say” (57.6K+ creations), a new trend shows that a healthy side of shady comments and questions from loved ones were also on the menu. The Imogen Heap-sampling song is the inspiration for creators to display their family members walking away from the table in slow-mo when they’re asked invasive questions that they’d rather not answer. Some creators reflect on the questions from the couch as they joke about how their parents don’t understand why they left the dinner table.
With her catchy track “6000 Degrees,” rising North Carolina rapper $hyfromdatre has TikTok creators feeling confident enough to take some lighthearted digs at those who may be envious of them. The taunting “ah hah” lyrics in the outro resonate with creators who know they have the cutest dog, know their makeup and video editing skills are top tier, and know their baby is a daddy’s girl. TikTok favorites like Latto, Ice Spice, and Coi Leray joined in the trend, adding to the platform’s 1.2M+ creations with the sound. $hyfromdatre excitedly added to the fun on her own account, exclaiming that every song she makes is a hit.
Always eager to discover new artists and create the next trend, the TikTok community is the perfect test audience for artists previewing new music. Alt-pop duo DWLLRS previewed their heartbreaking song “Blue Spirits” (65.1K+ creations) in early May, eventually inspiring a wholesome trend this fall. Repurposing the song with lighthearted context, creators record themselves holding out their arms for a hug from a loved one. In recent creations, TikTok users share videos of warm embraces with their roommates, besties, siblings, or no one at all, if they’re enjoying single life as much as @Nevaaadaa. DWLLRS did their part to keep the sound trending on TikTok, sharing a montage of creators’ videos and participating in the trend themselves.
Country star Brett Young’s 2017 song “Like I Loved You” (124.3K+ creations) has TikTok creators feeling petty as they comically air grievances about their current and former loved ones. Inspired by Young’s emphatic lines, “We can still be friends/No, I don’t want to be friends,” a new trend creators respond to their parents kicking them out of the house, share relationship advice, and reveal how sports rivalries cause friendships to temporarily pause. Brett Young hopped on TikTok to interact with the sound, sharing footage from his live performance of “Like I Loved You.”
The World Cup is reaching a fever pitch, and the “football” frenzy is influencing music consumption on TikTok. Popular creator iShowSpeed made a song, “World Cup,” specifically for the occasion, which is picking up steam and becoming an unofficial anthem. With over 185k creations, the video soundtracks distracted days at school, tributes to legends of the game, and examples of how for some fans, ball is life. The song’s popularity inspired iShowSpeed to take a trip to the World Cup himself, where he met his hero Cristiano Ronaldo. Other, more official World Cup anthems are taking over, as well: Jung Kook of BTS turned heads with “Dreamers” (747k creators, many of which commenting on his performance at the opening ceremony), and creators took a nostalgic look at past World Cup anthems like Shakira’s 2010 banger “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)” (308k creations).
This past weekend, to close out a month of #RnBVibes, TikTok made its presence known on the blue carpet at the 2022 BET Soul Train Awards. Prolific R&B singer-songwriter Eric Bellinger represented as the host, chatting with some of the genre’s rising and most prominent stars,ranging from Lucky Daye and Queen Naija to Coco Jones. Eric was a natural interviewer, asking artists about their upcoming collaborations, their favorite R&B songs, and even their favorite TikTok trends. Recent trending tracks like Muni Long’s “Hrs & Hrs,” Lizzo’s “About Damn Time,” and Beyoncé’s “BREAK MY SOUL” took home awards, emphasizing TikTok’s influence at the BET Soul Train Awards.

Jay Critch may very well be the answer to New York’s calls for representation in the rap game. As a young kid, Jay Critch was fascinated by his older brother’s music. Listening to his brother rap, Critch began to eventually do the same. Born in 1998 in Clinton Hill, Critch wrote raps at a young age, but wasn’t recording until he was of preteen age. Rappers such as Lil Wayne, Fabolous, and Max B dominated Critch’s listening habits and became major influences in his own music career.

The Background:

Kenzo Balla evokes both the ecstasy and the peril of New York street rap. The Bronx artist serves up chilly bars over hammering drill beats for stylish, yet raw anthems that are drawing the attention of the world by the day. Teaming with frequent collaborators TG Crippy (his brother) and Jay Da Chaser, he blends those elements on tracks like “OOTAZ,” which drips with adrenaline and confrontation. “Nightmares & Dreams” is the second video from HH5, which received “Best New Music” accolades from Pitchfork, the crowning achievement in a busy year for CEO Trayle. It arrived weeks after Vier, a four-track EP released in July alongside a Q&A with The FADER. The title of the EP translates into the number four in German, a number with mythical and historical significance in Trayle’s life–beyond being the source for his explosive nickname C4. Nine years ago, on July 4th, Trayle suffered seven gunshot wounds as he successfully fought off an attempted home invasion. After a six-year music hiatus, Rihanna has officially returned with a new song and the TikTok community is fully embracing it. “Lift Me Up,” a beautiful tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman from the soundtrack to the new box office smash Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is seeing success from TikTok to Billboard, garnering over 206K creations and debuting at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The ballad is the inspiration for heartwarming and powerful creations, including footage from the Wakanda Forever premiere, “Wakanda Forever” chants in the movie theater at the end of the film, and creators’ emotional reactions to the film. “Lift Me Up” even soundtracked a heartfelt moment between Rihanna and Chadwick Boseman’s wife Simone Boseman captured on the premiere’s purple carpet in a video that garnered over 4 million views on TikTok.
Latin music continues to thrive on TikTok, this time with Ozuna and Feid’s recent single “Hey Mor” (415K+ creations) sparking a new dance trend. Choreographed by @samxvazquez, the fun dance is making its rounds with those ready to try out their best moves at the beach, at the mall with their besties, and all dolled up at their quinceañera. Ozuna and Feid are having fun with the dance challenge on TikTok, as well: while Ozuna hilariously admits he had to practice the dance many times, Feid seemingly hits the moves with a tad more ease.
TikTok has helped usher Jersey and Philly club music into the mainstream in 2022, inspiring artists like Lil Uzi Vert (“Just Wanna Rock,” 489.4K total creations) and Drake (“Sticky,” 99.3K+ creations) to put their own spin on the music. Joining forces with Philly riser 2RARE, NLE Choppa is the latest to ride the club wave, getting creators in the mood to cut a rug with the new song “Do It Again.” Garnering over 122.5K creations, the club-inspired track finds the TikTok community recreating a dance by creator @theylovemhonaleeza. Recent videos find creators joining forces with their besties, gym partners, and younger siblings to do their own versions of the dance. NLE Choppa also joined in on the fun, reacting to creators’ videos and dancing to the track with the help of some club kids, who showed off their sturdy footwork. Thanks in part to its boost from TikTok, “Do It Again” has earned over 15 million Spotify streams to date.
One of the remarkable things about TikTok is how it can highlight amazing moments in songs that otherwise might not get attention. Creator and artist Hemlocke Springs used this to her advantage when promoting her new song “girlfriend,” a futuristic and harmonically complex R&B bop. In late October, Hemlocke Springs uploaded a video that highlighted the song’s enchanting middle 8, teasing “do u wanna hear the weirdest bridge you’ve ever heard in your entire life?” and performing some eccentric dance moves that perfectly fit the music. Boosted by the video, which racked up over 5 million views, the bridge helped “girlfriend” quickly pick up steam in the app, generating over 52k video creations, and propelling the song to over 6 million streams on Spotify. On TikTok, the song has become the go-to soundtrack for any creator looking to express their innermost self, whether they’re modeling fresh new looks, sketching whimsical characters, or in the case of R&B phenom Khalid, dancing like nobody’s watching. Meanwhile, Hemlocke Springs jokingly laments how she teased the chorus for weeks only for the bridge to launch the song to trending status.
Singer-songwriter Taylor Bickett is very active on TIkTok, telling the stories behind her songs and performing them with her acoustic guitar for her 272k followers. In recent weeks, Bickett had her biggest hit yet with “QUARTER LIFE CRISIS,” a heartfelt ballad about growing from a young adult to, well, an adult adult. Taylor first teased the song in September, revealing the first verse and chorus, which express a relatable sentiment for anyone worried that they’re not growing up fast enough. By the time “QUARTER LIFE CRISIS” earned official release one month later, the song earned nearly 12,000 pre-saves and generated over 11k video creations on the audio. The song was buoyed by a trend that encouraged creators to show #glowup or #thenandnow pictures of themselves at 16 and in the present. The trend launched the song to over 148k video creations, including videos by Drew Barrymore and Lauren Spencer-Smith. Meanwhile, Bickett continues to promote the song, including a with her own version of the trend, as the song racks up over 4 million streams on Spotify alone.
Respected Detroit rapper Peezy’s hit song “2 Million Up” (68.2K+ total creations) is inspiring creators on TikTok to double down on their loyalty to their families and friends. Using Peezy’s emphatic line, “If we locked in, ain’t no switching up,” creators explain why they’re still friends with an ex, reveal how long they’ve been in a relationship, and buy flowers for their girlfriends despite cold weather conditions. In other videos, TikTok users hilariously reveal that they defend their best friends, even when they’re lying. Peezy also engaged with the sound on his TikTok, reposting creators’ videos and encouraging fans to keep using the sound and tagging him.

Key Glock to Release PRE5L EP Tomorrow, Shares “Jigsaw” Video

The Heir to the Paper Route Throne Takes the Torch and Runs With It, Celebrating Young Dolph and Paving a Way Forward With A 5-Track EP

The EP:

Since his arrival to the music scene alongside his older cousin, Key Glock always had his own game plan. With a long-running streak of featureless releases, Glock took Young Dolph’s emphatic independence to the next level. Tomorrow, on the one-year anniversary of his mentor’s passing, Glock shares his new EP, PRE5L, renewing his commitment to that plan while fulfilling Dolph’s vision. Spanning 5 tracks with stellar production from Tay Keith, Hitkidd, Bandplay, and more, PRE5L arrives November 17th via Paper Route Empire.

Despite the context, PRE5L is far more swagged out than sentimental. From the first moments of its standout opening track, “Jigsaw,” it’s clear that Glock is in peak form– his effortless bravado evident as he embraces his role as both shot-caller and enforcer: “Cutthroat La Familia, I’m the point guard like Chris Paul/Paper Route business, I’ll smoke ya like a menthol.” In the video for “Jigsaw,” out now, Glock emulates the villain from the horror franchise of the same name, but unlike Billy the Puppet, Glock’s the one pulling the strings.

Beyond “Jigsaw,” the EP benefits from a wide spectrum of colorful production. “Forgive Me” finds Glock flexing over HitKidd’s carol-esque bells and a children’s choir, and “Spike Lee” floats with a timeless Houston feeling courtesy of Sosa 808, while “Die Trying” brightens the mood with the vintage vibe of a happy horn melody from Bandplay.

PRE5L follows the recent single, “From Nothin” (6.3 million views) in the wake of Glock’s Yellow Tape 2 (Deluxe), released in March. The success of Yellow Tape 2 proved beyond all doubt that Key Glock is a standalone star in the truest sense. With the 20-track project, Glock cracked his first solo entrance into the Top 10 on the Billboard 200, racked up over 178 million streams on Spotify alone, and did it all without a major label or a single guest feature. In January, Glock paid tribute to his cousin, mentor, and friend, Young Dolph, with his potent tribute, “Proud,” which earned over 4 million views in its first three days, and received praise from The New York Times, among others. The track was featured on the recent compilation album, Paper Route Empire Presents: Long Live Dolph, where Glock appeared alongside his fellow PRE labelmates, and appears on Yellow Tape 2 (Deluxe).

Taking their Memphis money moves to the West Coast, the Paper Route Empire duo shares “When I’m Bored.” Navigating an ominous piano line with blasé brilliance, Woo and SNUPE make clear that they’re not like other dudes–they’ve got money to burn and effortless style.
