Backed by an arsenal of inventive flows and a tireless hustle, Jay Fizzle is ready to snatch the crown in the Memphis scene and beyond. Returning to survey his kingdom in the latest video from his DonaFizzo (Deluxe) mixtape, Fizzle shares his Hugh Hefner-inspired visuals for the project highlight, “King Sh*t.” Over a bouncy instrumental marked by church organ melodies and skittering hi-hats, the track finds Fizzle reflect on the pros and cons in the life of a big stepper: “Balenci’ shoes hurt my toes, I make the b**** rub my feet/Swear I got h**s all over the world, yeah they treat me like a king.”

The video for “King Sh*t,” which arrives in the wake of the recent video for the PaperRoute Woo-featuring deluxe highlight “Bounce,” plays out like a slumber party at the Playboy Mansion, with Fizzle keeping his lingerie-clad company entertained in the house’s massive bedroom, kitchen, and even Fizzle’s white BMW convertible.

The new deluxe edition of DonaFizzo is an embellishment of Fizzle’s most accomplished project to date. Backed by cavernous trap beats by the likes of Bandplay and Sosa 808, the tape reverberates with Fizzle’s desire to follow in Dolph’s footsteps and take over the Dirty South. Rolling Loud‘s mission to bring the best in rap music to fans across the globe grows more ambitious by the day. Today, Rolling Loud announces the star-studded lineup for Rolling Loud Portugal 2023, the anticipated second edition of their beachside festival. Headlined by Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, and Meek Mill, the Rolling Loud Portugal lineup offers some of the biggest names in hip-hop on both sides of the Atlantic, plus names from the ascendant Portuguese scene.

Included among the lineup’s stacked undercard are U.S.-based superstars like Lil Durk, Latto, Lil Uzi Vert, and Kodak Black, and UK heavy-hitters like Central Cee and D-Block Europe. Returning to picturesque Portimåo and keeping a new tradition going, Rolling Loud Portugal touches down on July 5th-7th, 2023. Tickets go on sale at 1pm GMT on Thursday, 1/26 HERE.

Rolling Loud Portugal 2023 is a major pillar in the festival’s massive international expansion, which kicks into high gear this year. The big year kicks off with Rolling Loud Thailand 2023, the brand’s first-ever event in Asia, which makes at Legend Siam in Pattaya on April 13th-15th, 2023. Portugal is one of three European bashes hosted by Rolling Loud in the summer, a collection that also includes the first-ever Rolling Loud Germany, headlined by Travis Scott and others to be announced, and Rolling Loud Rotterdam, the second Rolling Loud event in The Netherlands, headlined by Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar. The four members of Baby Stone Gorillas have known each other since they were 10-years-old, and were friends far before they dreamed of music stardom. The rappers have distinct styles and roles: 5Much brings a hustler’s mentality and vents about his life, while EK packs the energy. P4K is the proud instigator known for slick-talking raps, while Top5ivee often comes up with B.S.G.’s catchy hooks. Last summer, the group’s self-titled video racked up views in the millions, precipitating a winning streak of viral singles that included the Pitchfork–approved “Military,” which earned airplay on Drake’s OVOSound Radio, and “Untouchable” ft. RJMrLA, catching the attention of Shaquille O’Neal. Paving the way for her upcoming album, Miley’s latest single “Flowers” has the star’s TikTok fan base frenzying with theories about the breakup anthem. Racking up over 261.6k creations as fans draw connections between the Bruno Mars-referencing single and its January 13th release date, the audio’s explosive popularity reaches far beyond its speculative appeal. Embracing their own self-sovereignty, creators are using the sound to reclaim control over their own happiness, remind lazy partners to step up their game, and rewrite stigmas about living the single life. The song’s revival started in November, when a sped-up remix of the song surfaced on the platform, inspiring an addictive sign language trend that sparked a competition between creators over who could most inventively interpret the lyrics. Now, the sound is one of the most popular on TIkTok, with over 1.4 million creations in two months, and this success is leading to the commercial rejuvenation of the original version of the anthem. “Sure Thing” leapt back onto Billboard’s Hot R&B charts earlier this month, where it currently sits at #14, and re-entered the Hot 100 for the first time in 12 years this week at #49. Amidst the song’s unlikely rise, Miguel picked up his bass and played a special rendition of “Sure Thing” in appreciation of his fans on TikTok, garnering over 1.3 million views in less than 24 hours.
St. Louis, MO’s Big Boss Vette broke out last year after her viral hit “Snatched” (398K+ creations) soundtracked beauty and fashion trends in 2022, helping earn her a deal with Republic Records. Now, the rising rapper is sparking the TikTok community’s creativity once again with her confident banger “Pretty Girls Walk.” First previewed as a snippet in one of Vette’s hair videos in mid-September, the song boasts over 47.7K creations since its official release in October. Inspired by the catchy hook, creators put their own spin on a dance choreographed by creator @_paige.n.white. Using the hashtag #walklikethischallenge, creators show off their moves with the help of their besties, toddlers and their moms. The DJ combined Scootie Wop’s “Spin Back” and Justine Skye’s “Collide” into a new mashup that has taken TikTok by storm. First shared on his TikTok page in late November, the song boasts over 1.6M creations to date. Using Scootie Wop’s emphatic lines, “Hold up, I ain’t with that/Devil tried to get his lick back,” creators do a dance co-choreographed by creators @tokichai and @imhibrydatwo. In other creations, the mashup soundtracks creators’ attempts to give their boyfriend a makeover, paint the walls of their salons, and encourage others to start their own businesses.
With cuffing season in full swing , romantics across TikTok are spicing up their date nights by letting fate decide. Soundtracked by country megastar Luke Combs’ 2022 chart-topper, “The Kind of Love We Make” (58.3K total creations), the choose-your-own-adventure trend has TikTok’s lovers embarking on all sorts of dates, like taking their cowboy hat-clad boyfriends to Cheesecake Factory, going on seafood excursions with their dressed-down girlfriends, and even taking “chaotic baths” with their sweater-wearing weiner dogs. Meanwhile, Luke Combs continues to create for his 4.3 million followers on TikTok, dropping snippets of unreleased music and sharing acoustic versions of his own hits and other popular songs.

The Video:

CEO Trayle separates himself from the pack with his villainous pen and devious delivery. The video for “Brody Trippin,” directed by Decat, sees Trayle and the Young Nudy-co-signed Baby Drill hauling more hardware than Home Depot employees, wearing black hoodies in place of orange aprons as they hatch their plot. Navigating concrete corridors with power tools in tow, the scenes appear to capture a heist in progress, before the pair finds themselves surrounded by amps in a studio. “Brody Trippin” arrives following Trayle’s highly acclaimed mixtape, HH5, which Pitchfork gave its coveted Best New Music designation. HH5 establishes Trayle as one of the slickest talkers in a stacked ATL scene, twirling his soft-spoken and erudite delivery like a cartoon villain twirls his mustache. The Video:

Lupe Fiasco weaves his lyrics into dense webs of double-meaning, encouraging his listeners to put together the puzzle pieces he teases out with his allusive wordplay. Taking his mythology into his own hands, Lupe shares the video for “PRECIOUS THINGS,” his latest music video. A Soundtrakk-produced highlight from his acclaimed LP DRILL MUSIC IN ZION, blessed with a hook from Nayirah, “PRECIOUS THINGS” finds Lupe speaking on the evolutionary miracle that is the human hand, exploring the ways we use our hands to fight, feel, and communicate: “I asked for ‘Okays,’ I got, ‘Up yours’ and ‘Go aways’/Shoo gestures and throat slicers, the motion’s made/Give me a sign when we can talk through a plan/But my hands was like ‘Fam, you can talk to the hand,’ damn,” spits Lupe.

Produced by Alberto Angelini, the video for “PRECIOUS THINGS” tells a story through screen-recorded desktop applications, with an unseen user delving deep into an internet rabbit hole inspired by Lupe’s lyrics. Guided by fan communities, comment sections, and old-fashioned articles, the explorer researches the origins of Lupe’s hand signals, his linguistic gymnastics, and his esoteric worldview. The user gathers data on academic search engines, looks for clues in articles from websites like HotNewHipHop, scours Google Earth, and even resorts to posting questions on Quora, but the answer to the mystery remains elusive. The video takes full advantage of YouTube’s new “pinch-and-zoom” feature, allowing viewers to zoom in on all the screenshots that make up the video and investigate the mystery with their own hands.

Released on June 24th, 2022, DRILL MUSIC IN ZION earned critical acclaim from NPR, Complex, The FADER, and many others, including Vinyl Me Please, who wrote “At their best, Lupe’s bars are as visually and phonetically pleasing as popped bubble wrap.” The product of a burst of thoughtful spontaneity, Lupe created DRILL MUSIC IN ZION over a short period, diving into a folder of beats sent by Soundtrakk and emerging with a fully-realized album in just three days (“Sometimes deadlines are lifelines,” says Lupe). The album is home to highlights like “NAOMI,” in which Lupe fuses playful political analysis with poignant emotional resonance, and “MS. MURAL,” which continues a series of songs that started on 2014’s Tetsuo & Youth (“Mural”) and continued with his last album DROGAS WAVE (“Mural Jr.”), and the jazz-inflected title track, which slyly comments on how art created amidst strife becomes commodified entertainment for the masses. DRILL MUSIC IN ZION earned “Best Of 2022” honors from the likes of Complex, Okayplayer, RIFF Magazine, and The Needle Drop.

Beyond DRILL MUSIC IN ZION, 2022 was a massive year for the iconic Chicago rapper. He celebrated the 15th anniversary of Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool, recently certified Platinum by the RIAA, and launched “LFT,” an NFT program that allows fans to get closer than ever to Lupe. He blessed his fans with archival releases and loose singles, including the self-produced “100 Chicagos” and “Galveston,” an Apple Music exclusive created in observation of Juneteenth. In the fall, Lupe started his position as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he teaches “Rap Theory and Practice.” The rapper is currently teaching his first semester of the course, with plans to continue in the future. Beyond music, Lupe continues to focus on the community organizations he founded, including We Are M.U.R.A.L, The Neighborhood Start-Up Fund, Society of Spoken Art, and his cross-cultural content venture, Studio SV.

Using the Bronx belle’s emphatic line, “She a baddie, she know she a ten/She a baddie with her baddie friend,” creators show off their best outfits, document their expensive first dates, and share their reactions to the song. Skai Jackson, Rico Nasty, and fellow Bronx rapper B Lovee showed their support for the song on their TikTok pages, recording themselves vibing out to the track. On the heels of the success of his collaboration album Her Loss with Drake, including trending songs like “Rich Flex,” “On BS”, and “Spin Bout U,” 21 Savage once again has a trending hit on his hands. The TikTok community can’t get enough of his 2018 track “asmr” (48.4K+ creations). The song resonates with many creators to comically exaggerate the effects some of their life experiences had on them. While some creators express how certain colognes remind them of their toxic ex and how their previous partner of a specific zodiac sign did them wrong, others reflect on their negative experiences with receiving epidural during childbirth and embarrassing reactions they received when they didn’t wear makeup.
Producer Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse’s version of The Zutons’ “Valerie” has become one of the late singer’s legacy songs. In mid-September, Ronson paid tribute to Amy by replaying the original demo file of their version (officially titled “Valerie (Version Revisited)”), and starting a renewed wave of appreciation for her music. The iconic recording has made a major impact on TikTok, racking up over 75k video creations, powered by a diverse array of trends that highlight the song’s buoyant mood. In recent weeks, the song inspired numerous trends, including a hip-shaking dance trend that proved much too hard for Mark Ronson to pull off himself, a trend where owners whisper their dogs’ favorite words into their ear and film their excited reactions, and, on Hairstylist TikTok, a trend where creators show optimal and unconventional ways of curling long hair. Other videos using the popular sound showcase creators canyoneering with their pets, giving and receiving Christmas gifts on the first day of school, and romanticizing their favorite foods.
The TikTok community is in a heartfelt mood and it’s all thanks to Coldplay’s 2000 ballad “Yellow.” Originally trending last summer as it soundtracked a trend in which creators celebrated how many years they’ve been with their partner, it continues to spotlight these loving couples in addition to various other types of love. Adding to the 914K+ creations under the sound, creators are gushing over their beautiful growing families, their dogs doing their baby’s gender reveal with a doggy cake, and their dad having the time of his life at a @warriors game after receiving free tickets from the team.
Dancehall icon Popcaan is gearing up to release his first album since 2020, and TikTok is more than ready to vibe. The album’s lead single “Next To Me” (feat. Toni-Ann Singh) has steadily grown on TikTok since its late November release, racking up over 20k video creations. The immaculate dancehall love song was a go-to sound for TikTok creators looking to escape the winter cold, whether by vacationing to the beach or into the arms of a significant other. Popcaan showed off the song on his own page, where he danced with an older fan at his show. The Jamaican singer might have yet another trending hit on his hands with “We Caa Done,” a new collaboration with Drake, that has been picking up momentum since its release last Friday.
Though Nigeria produces many of the biggest Afrobeats hits on TikTok, other African nations are producing hits and stars at an increasing clip. Libianca, a Cameroonian singer-songwriter (currently living in the U.S.), released a new banger called “People,” which has taken TikTok by storm. “People” first gained attention in November, after a lively preview of her COLORS performance trended on TikTok. Inspired by the rapturous fan reaction, including over 3900k creations on the audio snippet, Libianca revealed the full song on a TikTok LIVE and promised to release it in full in the near future. Shortly after its official release the following week, “People” began a rapid rise to the charts, powered by TikTok videos that showcased the song’s breezy and therapeutic qualities. Since its release in December, “People” has generated 657k video creations to date en route to over 10 million Spotify streams. Libianca’s breakout hit currently sits at #2 on Billboard’s U.S. Afrobeats Chart.

Comparing himself to another larger than life outlaw, Wulf shares “Jack Wulf Sparrow,” his new music video. Produced by MARCELO, a member of Wulf’s famed Hollow Squad, “Jack Wulf Sparrow” is a sinister, minimal banger with boosted bass and menacing piano. A native of South Memphis, Kenny Muney grew up idolizing rappers like Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, and Boosie. The Background:

L.A. rapper 03 Greedo came into his own on a series of mixtapes that began with 2016’s Purple Summer. His multi-faceted rhymes were heavy on references to drugs, struggle, and fame, and he churned out quality material at a prolific rate. He broke through to an even larger audience after signing a record deal, but not even a month after the release of his 2018 debut studio album God Level, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison for drug trafficking. He began serving his time in the summer of that year but issued a statement saying he intended to keep making and releasing new music while incarcerated. In 2019, Greedo released Still Summer in the Projects, the Kenny Beats produced project Netflix & Deal, with features from Freddie Gibbs, Vince Staples, Buddy and more, and in 2020, he dropped Load It Up, Vol. 01, produced by RonRonThe Producer. Greedo released his latest mixtape, Free 03, in January 2023.

The Paper Route Empire Artist Takes the Director’s Chair and Pays Tribute to a Legendary Auteur in the New Video for the PRE5L EP Standout Track

The Video:

With a movie star’s charisma and an auteurist eye for detail, Key Glock is an avowed cinephile who channels his love of film into his music and videos. Paying homage to an iconic filmmaker, Key Glock shares his new cinematic video for “Spike Lee.” Over crisp, classic Memphis production from Blazerfxme and AIMONMYNECK, Glock floats over the instrumental as he boasts the ascendant lifestyle his tireless hustle affords: “I made it off the block, then made a couple million, then got me a spot out there by the white people/Just f****d around and spilled some Wock’ on my wife beater.”

The cinematic clip for “Spike Lee” places Key Glock in the director’s chair as he adds his own unique touch to two of the titular auteur’s most iconic films: He Got Game (1998) and Do The Right Thing (1989). For the basketball-focused former, Glock appears as both an actor and director, shouting instructions from the director’s chair as his double crosses up defenders on the court. In the latter, Glock transports the iconic New York-based film to the west coast–he floats past some of the film’s most iconic scenes and characters, including The Mayor, Mother Sister, and Buggin’ Out, and reaffirms the universality of the film’s message.

“Spike Lee” is a highlight from PRE5L, Glock’s new EP, released on #DolphDay in November. The five-track project paints a way forward for the legendary Memphis label, as the 25-year-old rapper shows his determination to lead Paper Route Empire into a bright future. Featuring production from Tay Keith, BandPlay, HitKidd, JohnnyTurnItUp, and Aimonmyneck, and home to the recent video single “Jigsaw” (3.4 million views), PRE5L is available everywhere via Paper Route Empire.

The video for “Spike Lee” quickly follows the recent announcement of Glock’s SiriusXM’s Hip-Hop Nation Presents: Key Glock – Glockoma Tour, which kicks off in March. The 31-date run kicks off on March 5th at Atlanta’s Coca-Cola Roxy making stops in Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, and more before wrapping up in Nashville, TN at Marathon Music Works on April 28th.
