Tommy Brown Produces Ariana Grande’s Christmas & Chill EP

News: Tommy Brown Produces Ariana Grande’s Christmas & Chill EP

“We Did the Project in Four Days,” Says the Producer Who Also Worked On the Pop Superstar’s Yours Truly and My Everything Albums

12.21.2015

The News:

“Ariana came to the house and was like ‘I want to do a Christmas song, maybe three Christmas songs,'” frequent collaborator and producer Tommy Brown explains. “I said, ‘let’s do a Christmas project,’ and she was like, ‘okay!'” What transpired resulted in a surprise Christmas & Chill EP release from Ariana Grande. The team of creatives built a studio – complete with microphones, speakers, keyboards, computers – in the pop superstar’s house, where they stayed and crafted the 6-song project over the span of 4 days. “We gave her Christmas songs over trap beats,” Tommy Brown explains, adding that they brought in violin players and a ukulele player.

How’d Ariana Grande, Tommy Brown, and the team celebrate? With a trip to Disneyland. All songs on the Christmas & Chill EP were co-written by R&B singer/songwriter Victoria Monét. Having worked with Ariana Grande on her previous album releases, Yours Truly and My Everything, contributing production and songwriting, Tommy Brown and Victoria Monét are two staples in Ariana Grande’s rise to fame. Together, Tommy Brown and Victoria Monét have formed the VieTom imprint, which is branded to develop artists and songwriters.

Tommy Brown Background:

Tommy Brown wants to rewrite the music industry rulebook. The super producer, who has supplied marquee artists like Ariana Grande, T.I. and Chris Brown with boundary-shifting tracks, spent the past few years surveying the scene and witnessed how difficult it can be for up-and-comers to connect with more notable writers and producers. His solution: create the Facebook of the music community, where newer musicians can pay various price points and access exclusive instrumentals and get their music heard by a wider audience. In 2012, he signed with BMI, which in turn led to an independent production deal with Sony ATV. Since then, he’s become one of the hottest producers across genres, helming T.I.’s “New National Anthem,” G.O.O.D. Music’s “Sin City,” and four songs on Grande’s chart-topping sophomore album My Everything.

“Trae embodies everything that is Texas in an artist. He’s independent, strong and a survivor.” – SXSW.com

“Trae Tha Truth (or just Trae) is one of the more authentic artists currently operating in Texas, if not the South in general.” – HotNewHipHop

“Trae tha Truth is one of Houston’s most imposing musical forces, a bona fide legend in the harrowing streets of southwest Houston.” – Houston Press

    The Video:

Closing out what’s been a great return to form for the Houston legend this year, Trae Tha Truth shares a video for the Problem and Lil Boss-assisted Tha Truth Pt. 1 single “Yeah Hoe.” A song produced by Dnyc3 and Trent, guided by a G-Funk synth that bleeds Cali rap nostalgia, the Phillyflyboy-directed video finds Trae flexing atop the Warehouse Live entrance in East Downtown Houston. Problem checks in from Los Angeles before the clip returns to H-Town where Trae, Lil Boss, and their ABN crew mob out, backed by Cadillacs on swangas.

Earlier this month Trae Tha Truth announced Tha Truth Pt. 2, sharing the album’s first single,” Takers,” which debuted via XXL and features buzzing ATL rapper Quentin Miller. “Takers” is an instant great track with a pre-order of the album on iTunes. The second part of a two album series, Trae Tha Truth’s 8th solo album, Tha Truth 2, follows 2015’s Tha Truthwhich included the popular singles “Trickin’ Every Car I Get” featuring Future and Boosie, and “Realigion” alongside DeJ Loaf. Trae will be heading out on his national Truth Tour starting on January 2016. Tha Truth 2 is slated to release Feb. 5th.

    Trae Tha Truth Background:

There are three ways to write about Trae Tha Truth. One is to talk about his music, and that’s important because he is a rapper and making music is what he does. The other is to talk about him as a human, and that’s important, because he has done some truly monumental and impressive things. The third is to talk about the intersection of him as a rapper and him as a humanitarian, because that’s where Trae really belongs. His music is often inspired by the experiences of the disenfranchised, which is rooted in the broken roads of the ghetto. It’s driven by loss, by love, by loyalty, and by when one or two or all of those things are taken away or tested of those he cares about.

Trae Tha Truth is very modest, he never talks about his guest features he’d done or any of his new tapes (Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, T.I., Nas, etc.) or how he’d landed another MTV JAM Video of the Week or how he’d signed to T.I.’s label or any of the things people were watching him accomplish from afar. What you need to about Trae is he is a rapper, who has only ever viewed rap as another way for him to help people.

    The Mixtape:

Signed to acclaimed super-producer Bangladesh, Atlanta rap duo Famous 2 Most are the originators of international dance sensations the “Whip” and “Nae Nae.” Famous 2 Most rappers PJ and Hasani‘s heavily engaged Instagram following helped skyrocket their party moves into two of the year’s biggest dance crazes. While the quick rise to prominence may be surprising to some, Bangladesh feels like the whole world is finally seeing what he saw a long time ago. “I met Hasani when he was 13, and I seen his dance video and knew immediately he was gonna be a star,” Bangladesh told VIBE in their premiere of Famous 2 Most’s self-titled debut mixtape. “All I saw back then was a young Chris Brown. Years later we crossed paths again then I seen he was dancing, rapping, AND producing?! He was rolling with PJ and the chemistry was crazy.”

The release of Famous 2 Most’s self-titled mixtape follows their sharing of video singles “Too Many” and “Z.A.N.Z.” “We wanted [the video] to be super dope, fun, full of energy,” Famous 2 Most told The FADER, who debuted the rambunctious “Too Many” video where Famous 2 Most were joined by twerk team ICandyTwerkers. Prior to “Too Many,” the energetic duo shared the dizzying drug-rap anthem “Z.A.N.Z.” via AllHipHop. Famous 2 Most’s mixtape was executive produced by the Grammy Award-winning Bangladesh, whose credits include Ludacris‘ “What’s Your Fantasy,” Kelis‘ “Bossy,” and Lil Wayne’s “A Milli.” With more than 140k Instagram followers between the two of them, PJ and Hasani are determined to show the world that they each have a lot to offer. “We feel like if the whole world is this excited about that one tiny aspect of what we do on a daily bases, we know that the world is probably going to explode once they get a taste of the entire package of dances, music, fashion, and extreme partying that we bring to the table.”
